My family rented out a TON of things for a family reunion. (Two 10 person paddle boards, two 8 person rafts, two 2 person floats, two canoes) Rented in advance, so everything would be loaded onto trailers and ready for us so we could simply show up, hitch the trailers, and head out. When we showed up at our reservation time we were informed that someone didn’t show up for work so we would have to load everything up ourselves. Obviously this was a freak thing, and I understand last minute call-outs, but if that one person was supposed to show up and load all of those things, by the time they didn’t show up for work that was enough time to call us and let us know about the change of plans. This ended up adding an hour and a half to our departure time. Which meant we got caught in a flash thunderstorm on the river 10 minutes before the end of the float with my grandparents and also lots of young kids. Luckily everyone was okay, but it was a dangerous situation that could have been avoided entirely by the ORC reaching out to tell us we would need to arrive earlier to assist in loading our things, or even the employees helping us load up. Had we left when we were supposed to everyone would have ended the trip happy, healthy, dry, and we could have avoided a lot of panic and tears. THEN when we returned, absolutely drenched and ready to return items, they wanted us to wait for them to reinflate everything to check that it was fine, adding even more unnecessary time to our experience. We did end up receiving a discount, but overall the experience was extremely disappointing. As a BYUI student myself it was embarrassing to have my school represented so poorly to my family. Preface: This review is the result of almost a year of renting different things from the ORC. Different seasons, types of gear, and different people I have met while there, so I hope it helps.
GEAR: 9/10 All of the gear I have both bought and rented from here has been fantastic! They try really hard to only get good quality stuff which really does make a difference out doors! If you are buying from them it’s a really good choice!
ONLINE: 6/10 This is when things don’t seem to go as well. There have been times when I’ve called and never gotten a response on the phone. Their website is more of a catalog which has decent picture which is helpful, but their gear reservation process is confusing and there have been times when I reserved gear, but they had over rented.
IN-PERSON: 5/10 This is where I have had the most issues. Sometimes you will meet the most amazing people ever! I’ve had times where I knew an activity I wanted to do and they gave me some great advice on what to do or how to do it! Another time though I was late by one hour in returning my gear and was then charged an additional full day (It turned out to be an extra $50, so that wasn’t fun) Another time I walked in and there was nobody their, so I waited for about 10min and still nobody there and ended up...
Read moreI had a terrible experience where they fixed my bike and it took them over a month to do it. Before you give them your bike you give them a limit on how much your willing to spend on repairs and if they go over they will call you. I put a limit of $45 and 1 month later they call and say it's all done. The guy then tells me it'll be $85. They never called me to confirm that. Didn't listen to me. I was forced to pay and they said there's no other way. Never go here it's a huge scam. I wish I could give them no stars. I want my money back.
I know that there was a lot to do to it. But let me know that it's going to be almost doubled what we agreed to. I called 3 times in the month and no one bothered to tell me the price. Your guy there said he'd give me refund but told me it will still cost me $40 to put it back to where we had it. So if you're telling me a complete refund then fine.
