Here's some things you should know when considering Northpoint: So far, this is a pretty nice place to live. Everything is clean and appliances work. I love the two fridges, and there's free laundry in each apartment. Deliveries like Amazon/Broulim's/restaurants will delivery to your apartment door. There's a free shuttle to Walmart, and a small strip mall (mostly food) across the street to the north. If you want to explore the city, it's closer than most BYUI housing complexes. They have a nice gym and a bunch of big empty rooms (with balconies and outdoor firepits) you can use near the restaurants. If you're planing a FHE/Ward/Party thing, I'd suggest you reserve a room to make sure, but otherwise you can just hang out at wherever's open. There's also pool tables and a fireplace (though I've never seen it lit) How homey it feels definitely depends on what you make it. There's a nice natural color scheme so most decorations work well. The bedrooms are white and the carpets are a mix of fibers with multiple undertones so you can decorate how how want. There's plenty of space, even in the 8-person apartment I'm in (they have other apartments for fewer people, too). I brought a ton of stuff, and I've had no problem finding places to put it. There's a good size (not huge) closet, drawers under the sinks, cubbies in some (not all) bathrooms, cabinets in the kitchen(though you have to share those so they can get crowded), a storage room next to the laundry, a dresser that fits both in the closet and under the bed, and a lofted bed. The beds are twins, and they're wicked high, so you can put loads of stuff under there. I got huge plastic tubs/bins, and they fit perfectly. Keep in mind that there is a horizontal support bar underneath that is about 34 cm (13.5 in) high, so if you want to use the whole floor space, keep your stuff shorter than that. But otherwise it's 75.5 cm (29 3/4 in) tall, and 67 cm (26 1/2 in) deep in front of the bar. It's also a bit scary jumping on/off the bed. If you have trouble climbing over a meter high, get a stool because you can't un-loft it. Obviously there's a few minor concerns. The heating is a bit off, so the hallways are roasting hot but the apartments are a bit chilly so far, so we're always wearing sweatshirts/blankets. (I took a star off mainly for this) The 8-person apartments have the same size kitchen as any other, so if you're all cooking at once it's going to get crowded. The piano rooms are not sound proof at all, just fyi. The elevator in the women's building is really slow, but they're supposedly working on that. The online sample pictures are a bit misleading because they don't let you put curtains up, but they give you white Venetian blinds (the plastic type). There's little soundproofing so if you're a light sleeper get some earplugs. It's just across from the stadium on campus, so it's good for classes north of the Marwaring Center. If you have classes in the Ricks, Bensen, or south of campus, get ready for a long walk uphill. Even with all this, it's a nice place. I'd definitely...
Read moreNorthpoint has ok apartments, decent parking, and good location, but has the worst management I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The internet was terrible, and would straight up drop for 5 or 10 minutes, multiple times in a day. The elevators would regularly break down for a day or two, leaving you to hike up 5 flights of stairs. One of the top floors' pipes burst during the winter, which flooded two apartments. through it all management is UNRESPONSIVE and UNHELPFUL. Constantly saying "we're working on it", "we're aware of the situation", but NEVER DOING ANYTHING TO HELP OR SOLVE ANY ISSUES OR PROBLEMS, WHETHER THEY ARE BIG OR SMALL, PERSONAL OR PUBLIC.
I've refrained from writing a bad review, like most of my roommates for some time, but recently Northpoint really screwed me over:
I lived there Fall 2014, and opted to make rent payment in installments (which, by the way, is RIDICULOUS. BOTH of the first "installments" of rent are due upon check in... so it's not really a payment plan, its 2/3 up front, and 1/3 later... very frustrating for me. When I was touring the apartments before deciding to live there I was told there was a rent payment option, and assumed it would work like every other complex. Very misleading.)
I wrote a check in OCTOBER for an installment of rent, and apparently the check bounced. I was never notified. I lived there for the remainder of fall semester, and went through THE ENTIRE CHECKOUT PROCESS. I checked out, got my deposit back, and was told MY ACCOUNT BALANCE WAS $0.00.
Then, IN APRIL 2015, I was called up by northpoint and told that $700 was owed on my account. I was confused, seeing as how it had been month since I had lived there, and that I went through the checkout process and was told my balance was $0. A housing hold was put on my student account. I had the $700 in october 2014 when I had been paid for my summer job from the summer before, I had it in december, I had it in January, and I even could have paid it in february. In late february, however, I got married, and after those expenses and extra $700 out of the blue wasn't an option.
THEY WAITED SIX MONTHS TO TELL ME A CHECK FOR $700 HAD BOUNCED.
Everytime I call they are unhelpful. They are required to be patient and polite, but neither of those attributes help me register for classes.
I was able to borrow money from my parents so I can pay the $700 to northpoint. I paid over the phone with them, and the money has been taken out of my account, but they STILL WILL NOT REMOVE MY HOUSING HOLD claiming that the money needs to "settle".
Northpoint was unhelpful and unprofessional. I recommend that you avoid living there at all costs. I regret ever stepping foot in that building.
Also, I realized after reading some of the reviews here that quite a few of the 5 star reviews are from people who's profiles show that they are not even students... meaning they have never had to live at northpoint. Just thought I would...
Read moreI have taken the time to write this review to inform those that are considering signing up to NorthPoint. If your looking for quality management, NorthPoint is not the place. I have been living here since NorthPoint has been open for the men. From bad internet to pipe bursts, NorthPoint had a very rough start. I remember I had to call in for maintenance to get our pipes fixed a couple of times. I remember I had to pull a Ethernet cable across the apartment just to get on the web. Since then NorthPoint has come to recover from these problems gradually. There is still a few problems here and there. But this is not my point of why I have given such a low rating. It's about management.
I am being removed from my home because of poor management decisions. I am not being removed because I caused a problem. NorthPoint has made it where I have no choice but to leave even if I wanted to stay. By the time we found out that we are not able to stay in our apartment, NorthPoint had already set up contracts for others without even notifying us. They didn't bother to tell us that there are people interested in moving in to this apartment and just signed them up. I have been loyal to NorthPoint for three semesters and have even referred people to NorthPoint. But I have come to learn that NorthPoint has no loyalty to those that currently stay and have been loyal to them. I have come to know that they only have interest in those that are willing to quickly sign a contract. They say they notified us through email to quickly sign up for discounts and secure our spot for next semester but I have never have had an experience like this in other apartments. Almost all apartments I have lived in the past have came and notified me about people that wanted to move in and have asked us in person if we wanted to stay for next semester or not. NorthPoint is basiclly forcing people to sign contracts rather than having the respect to go and ask if people want to stay. Their actions show and say that NorthPoint has no consideration or respect for those that have been loyal to them, they also show that have no real interest in keeping or retaining their current customers for any extended period of time. I would rather live in a cheaper apartment were the management actually cares about it's loyal costumers. Apartments are not a military boot camps or a hotel were people come and go. It is a home. This was my home, and I am being forced out of it.
I want to stay in this apartment and no other in NorthPoint. I payed good money to stay here. NorthPoint, you have lost a loyal customer and I am never coming back.
