We began donating this past Summer and overall had good experiences. I found the plasma center relaxing and the staff attentive. My wife wasn't able to continue the donations because of adverse reactions which is no fault of this center.
I decided to write this review after my most recent visit. Instead of a quiet atmosphere in which I could read a book or be on my phone, I found all the employees very chatty. The overall attention to patients was very lax with most employees standing in groups and talking.
I understand talking while working, but a plasma donation center is unique as my health is directly tied to the performance of the employees at this site. Directly in front of my bed is a glass window where employees work, I assume, processing plasma. One of the employees was extremely loud and even rowdy. He was constantly screaming "I AM TITANIUM!!!!!!" I guess the popular song was playing.
Other employees were constantly visiting him at the window where they loudly talked and made jokes. At one point he screamed "WHAT THE HELL!" I think this type of behavior is appropriate at many workplaces but not in such a controlled setting as a Plasma Donation Center.
I wouldn't even be writing this review but while all of this was taking place, the needle was not properly inserted into my vein. I make mistakes and understand everyone makes them. I do not fault my phlebotomist as he was extremely careful with the needle insertion and repositioning. He called his supervisor after something wasn't quite right and the supervisor pushed several times on the needle in my arm. That was incredibly painful and I do not know why it was needed as he then switched and decided to insert the needle into my other arm. I think he pressed down on the needle while it was inserted into my vein at least 8 times.
I asked to leave the Center without my blood and they informed me I should accept the return cycle of blood as I would be put an 8 week list if I did not. I accepted the logic and the needle was reinserted. They then finished the entire cycle despite me asking to leave again.
I think the combination of all these factors made me feel the need to be bring my experience to the attention of the facility. I am certain this is not the atmosphere nor experience Grifols Biomat USA pursues. How many others have had a similar experience but have not said anything? I just ask that in the future employees are trained properly and are asked to be professional throughout the process. As I mentioned, there are many places where this behavior is acceptable, but multiple people with needles in their veins under your care is not one of them.
My wife said while she was losing consciousness at this site she kept trying to get the attention of the Phlebotomists but was too weak to do so. The person sitting next to her was fully awake and had to shout loudly at the group of Phlebotomists too busy talking to see their patient needed help. That scares me. Maybe next Summer I'll give this...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars if I could. These kids at the front counter don't know how to be professional, nor do they know what "professionalism" is all about.
The first visit I had the young college student wouldn't accept a bank statement as proof of address. I politely and kindly informed her that it should suffice as it is part of federal policy to accept bank statements as a form of acceptable information. She gave me an attitude about it, then told me that I should take it up with the IRS, and that it wasn't up to FDA regulations that they could accept??!! Umm okay. Pretty sure that you are wrong about that! I then asked her what they would accept? I was told they would accept a Lease Agreement which was electronically signed....weird how they will accept this but not the other. I was aggravated at this point. Then I was told that I would have a physical done. If you are going to do a physical, then you have to know how to use the sphygmomanometer CORRECTLY!!! He didn't even tighten it around my cuff of my arm to use it properly, and then leaving it on for TWO seconds doesn't cut it either, which will give you a FALSE reading!!!! I was told that I couldn't donate because my "veins" weren't protruding enough to donate. Gee I wonder why!!??
Same thing and attitude today. I was told to wait for an hour, and then come back. Coming back was even worse. Same results of the physical, and I am convinced that whoever trained these kids should be FIRED! A second opinion IS needed, and I will be sure to go to a different BIOMAT/GRIFOLS and be treated with respect.
My wife has donated for years, and she has NEVER EVER had this problem. I think this place needs to have a new staff, and needs to know their policies and procedures. It's not rocket science. It's business and professionalism 101. I won't be back...
Read more(Long story short, terrible customer service and an unnecessary long wait for $25 for three hours of wasting my time with no explanation.)
I have given my plasma here for the past month and a half twice a week. My experience here has not been enjoyable. Let me start with today. I spent 3 hours there when my procedure only took 50 minutes. I checked in, then was called back to the examination and the blood pressure machine failed to get my blood pressure. So the lady told me to go sit down again without explanation. 20 minutes later I get up to ask what is happening. The guy at the front desk said we will be with you when we are ready for you. (Literally wasn’t busy at all). I watched the guy the whole time and he wasn’t doing much. Finally, he leaves the desk area and just says “come with me”. I go with him just to get my blood pressure checked again with the same machine. Then after another 10 minutes I finally leave that little room with the guy. Then I wait another 20 minutes in the control desk area while everyone files past me. At this point I’m pretty frustrated. So I ask the people at the front desk. And they try to make up some excuse, the problem was the bearded employee just forgot to bring my file to the control desk. The workers there need customer service training. Just a waste of my...
