Oh boy. I don't think I've ever given a place a bad review, but Kenzie Ochoa earned it. I would HIGHLY suggest requesting a different person if you are assigned her. Keep in mind, I've been coming here for around 2 years and I've always enjoyed the atmosphere and staff. That said, I'm going to look around and see if there are other options.
I came 20 minutes early to my appointment and the guy (who is always very professional and chill) checked me in and said "She'll be with you around the appointment time". I thought "Huh, that's a weird way of saying that". Normally they would say "She will be with you asap" ect. Boy was he right. She wondered around for a good 25-30 minutes, finally calling me over 5-10 minutes after the appointment started. Oh well, maybe she was having lunch?
I'm not sure if she's having a bad day, but man talk about such a negative and grumpy person. At the start she says "What do you want?". I told her "I just do a normal men's haircut, but I always forget the numbers so they added notes to my profile. So we always use that!". She looks annoyed and asks again "Okay, but what do you want?". I said again "Oh, I'm not sure, it's just a short men's haircut, but again they put notes in the computer". She's just staring at me in the mirror and says "Okay, so like a 2?". I looked at her in the mirror and said "you should look at the notes". She pulled her phone out, and I can only hope her phone has some Barberpop app that has access to customer profiles, but currently I'm doubting it based off the haircut she gave me. She just said "Okay", eventually put her phone away, and then started.
People, I'm a simple man. I don't care about my hair. One time someone messed up and we just shaved it because I thought "eh, it'll grow back". Still tipped 50% of the price. I literally come into this business to just have a pleasant person cut my hair and make me not look homeless. You don't want to talk? No problem at all, I just close my eyes. Want to hear my life story? Sure! Regardless, I always I tip around 50% of the price, and I leave. Been doing it that way for years.
This entire cut was just so grumpy, it was like she was angry I had the audacity to make an appointment. After the initial contact, she didn't say a single word to me until the very end when she asked if I wanted product. But she did complain to herself about how hot it was, complained to coworkers about the heat, left to change the AC, then stopped cutting my hair to complain to her coworker about a guy who asked for an unrealistic cut, and how annoying it was that he didn't know the difference in style terminology, and how he didn't have a picture of what he wanted. I was thinking "Man, it sounds like a good opportunity to be a professional hairstylist and explain these things to the customer". She complained for a good 2 minutes about this one customer, while her coworker didn't really engage back with her which makes me assume this is classic Kenzie behavior. Eventually I guess she just gave him some simple cut so the guy would go away. Probably would have been nice if he had a hair stylist who actually cared and was passionate about her job. Who knows, maybe she could have given that guy a cool cut and made him feel happy, but instead she chose to think about how stupid he was for not hand delivering the cut on a silver platter and giving him something it sounded like he didn't want.
I get it, we all got jobs and we all have dealt with stupid, grumpy, and naive people. We all complain to our coworkers. But to just literally complain anytime you open your mouth, it must be miserable to work around her. Also, I'm not sure if maybe she was sick, but she kept breathing out exasperatedly, like she was annoyed while cutting my hair. By the end, I paid 30-40 bucks for her to complain and huff in my ear for a 15 minute cut where she pretty much buzzed my head. Just an entirely unpleasant experience. She seems to hate her job/customers. I've never gone to a different shop but I'm going to go look around now and see...
Read moreRecommended by a friend, my husband got a great haircut by a nice barber girl, BUT... She said we had to come back to do his beard. We agreed to be back in a half hour. My husband is disabled and diabetic so I couldn't rush him out of the food place next door. We were 10 minutes late, the other girl said, and she couldn't get him a quick beard trim she claims it takes 20 minutes. No one told either of us about their 10-minute policy and not being able to take us. We expressed to them that we were from another town 35 minutes away, so coming back 4 hours later makes no sense. We're most likely NEVER returning. If they had told us about their policy, we would have stayed in the building and just waited, and I could have gotten a snack from the bagel place inside. We're assuming they would be confident enough to do a beard shape up in 10 minutes and that the next client they had coming in within the next ten minutes couldn't wait 5 minutes extra. It wasn't worth the drive for us. There's just no good barbershops anymore. Note: responsibility goes both ways in this situation. They had to refund us for not trimming the beard, and I told the first girl, "Let's wait until you finish the beard. No one ever listens, and now we're waiting for a refund instead we could have had a quick shape up. We personally wanted a barbershop that was kind and understanding, but the second girl was rude. Other barbershops are more understanding, but unfortunately, they cuss waaaay too much, and that's not okay. This one doesn't do that, but service is bad by some and not all. This review was waaay too long-winded, but a good place to get your hair done is harder to find these days, and none of them have available appointments anymore until 1 to...
Read moreI have been to Barber Pop Shop on a number of occasions. I typically get The Executive which costs $65.95 which is their most expensive service and includes a total of 12 different services as part of it. Generally speaking, I’ve always had a good experience there. On one occasion I was late and was told they might not be able to provide all of the items included in The Executive which was completely understandable.
My most recent appointment was scheduled for 2:30 PM. I was running late and as I pulled up at 2:42 I received a text from them stating I was a “no show”. At 2:43 I was in the salon and was told that because I was late, they had charged me the $65.95 and that they might not have time to do all of the services I had purchased. I was then told that if I wanted to continue with The Executive, I would have to pay the full amount of $65.95 again which would bring the total to $131.90 because I was a “no show”.
In a service oriented business where profitability is largely determined by developing relationships and generating repeat clients, I was stunned they wanted to charge me double. I completely understand that by being late, I would not be given the full allotted time, but the fact that they would not provide any of the services I had paid for was shocking. If I had truly been a “no show” and not shown up at all, I would completely expect to be billed the full amount.
Regardless of what the fine print says when one books an appointment, this experience showed me they have no interest in developing relationships and repeat clients. Even though I have been a repeat customer, this experience was so souring, I will likely never...
