I never write reviews but this needs to be heard. I have never experienced such poor service, and no one should ever go here!!! I don’t normally care if the service is bad if the food is good but this is where I draw the line. This used to be my favorite restaurant that I frequented but I will not be returning here after last Thursday. We called to make a reservation but were informed they don’t take reservations. No problem, we had tried to reserve it before with no success but we were always able to get in, even with bigger groups. When we arrived with our group at about 6:30, they asked if we were the group of 20 who had made a reservation. (How did they make a reservation but we couldn’t?) We had a 10 or so minute wait to be seated before being put in the corner, out of the waitresses view. After we were seated, the group of 20 arrived and another group about our number of guests, 13 or so, were also seated. We watched as the waitresses took their orders and got them drinks while we were left in the corner. It took them a good 20 minutes to get our drinks and maybe 30 more for those drinks to get to us. The two tables with large groups who arrived AFTER us received their food before they had even taken our order. At this point we were frustrated. It had been over an hour. I knew service here is normally slow, but this was ridiculous. Some of our group had time to even leave to pack up and check out of their hotel before coming back. Still no sign of food and no waitresses. We realized that the restaurant had actually closed at this point, 8:00. Some of our group even had to leave because of young children and health conditions. We waited over TWO HOURS before getting our food. Normal, good restaurants at least offer free drinks or dessert if the wait is longer than normal. I would have expected this at a 45 minute wait or even an hour. 2 hours is not acceptable. One of the waitresses even spilled a drink on one of us as the food arrived. They clearly just ignored our group and gave priority to the people who came after us because they forgot they put us in the corner where they didn’t see us. This place needs to get themselves together. They need to hire more people and teach better practices to their employees. It’s such a shame that their service is such an obstacle to the good food they serve. Will not return and will be spreading the word.

TLDR: we waited 2+hours for food, 2 big groups came after us and they were served before us, extremely...

We had a party of five that are dinner around 6:45pm on a Saturday night. They were in the tail end of being busy.

As a group we ordered a couple sushi rolls and each ordered an entree. I ordered a Pina colada since they had run out of Dr. Pepper. (How did a restaurant run out of a canned beverage? Poor planning?) The Pina colada tasted only on pineapple. No coconut and definitely no cream- straight pineapple and ice. The food took a long time to show up.

The sushi rolls eventually showed up. The more traditional Dragon roll was okay. The Hawaiian one I ordered was a mix of flavors that was off-putting. The sweet and spicy idea was good but not mixed with the raw tuna on top.

The teriyaki chicken was great. The teriyaki beef was just okay but it did come as a huge portion size. The pineapple chicken looked like they just took the teriyaki chicken, dipped it in tempura batter, deep fried it, and poured a super-sweet sauce over the top. The chicken katsu was just okay, again with a extremely sweet sauce poured over it over it. The Kahlua pork was the best part of the meal. It was just the right salty and smokey. The house mustard sauce was unique and delightful!

Unfortunately, every time we needed something (more water, more soda pop, more napkins) our server was impossible to find. One person in our party even mentioned that we'd been needed and forgotten based on the service.

The atmosphere was open and friendly. The sign said "please wait to be seated" and ironically the sushi guys had to yell in the neck for the two servers to come out and do their jobs. I don't know if they have the servers cooking in the back, too, but the service was...

This message and comment is in response to the recent negative comment left by Baxter Bruner.

My name is Cindy, and I was your server this past Saturday night. I apologize if there was any confusion or dissatisfaction with your dining experience with us.

When you had placed your order with me, I had read back the order to you and received confirmation indicating the order was accurate.

However, when the sushi order for the "Spicy Trio", (a deluxe tempura fried roll) was served to you, you then indicated to me that the roll received was inaccurate, and that you had actually wanted just the "Spicy Tuna roll" instead.

I had immediately apologized, and said we would correct that as soon as possible with the spicy tuna roll you wanted.

As I attempted to remove the tempura deluxe sushi roll plate, (the mistake sushi roll), you had stopped me and said,

"Hey, just leave that sushi roll here".

When I returned to your table with your spicy tuna roll, you had eaten and finished the entire Spicy Trio sushi roll, and then later argued with me that you didn't feel you should pay for that roll, since it was a "mistake".

I tried to remove the mistake plate in the beginning, but you chose and asked to keep that sushi dish. Management still gave you a 20% discount, which was more than fair.

Your review with false accusations and false claims is not accurate nor is it fair to this company. I felt the need to speak out and address...

I have a warning for everyone coming in a large group. We came here for a birthday party. We split the bill a few different ways between the 3 families. At the end when they took our card they didn't bring a bill and just asked for our cards. After they ran our cards, our waiter ONLY brought back the slip that asks for a signature and a tip, but did not bring back the slip that shows what we all ordered. I asked for the other slip so I could see everything I was being charged. Some items were incorrect, and they had added a gratuity. I understand perfectly well that a gratuity is custom for a big group, but our waiter thought he'd be clever and only bring the slip that asks for a signature and a tip so you couldn't see that you already paid a gratuity. Dirty work, and he knows what he was doing. When I asked for the other slip, he ran and got it, and it was already printed. As far as the food goes, everything was just fine. Service was slow, but it was busy, so being slow was understandable. We were hungry and the hawaiian food was yumm. We ordered a few sushi rolls and there was a lot going on and the flavors all just sort of mashed together. Wouldnt do those again except for the basic ones. I'd be hesitant to go here again and I'd make sure to keep the waiter honest.

Love this restaurant and so glad we tried it! Ono grindz for sure! We lived in Hawai’i for 13+ years and this is truly amazing and authentic “local” Hawaiian and Japanese food. The owners are so nice and put their heart into the business. Everyone who enters the doors are treated like Ohana (family). Even the epic murals on all the walls and in the bathrooms were painted by the owners! Loved the food! Loved the service! Loved talking story with Auntie Irina! (Sorry if I spelled the name wrong). We will be back for sure every time we are in town to visit our daughter at BYU-Idaho. We tried the Nu’u sushi roll….SOOO good! Awesome recommendation from the server. Also ordered the Mahi Mahi with veggie tempura, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef. Mmmmm good! Too full to try dessert menu so next time. Expand your culinary horizons people and eat some legit and delicious food from the Islands and the Asian-Pacific Rim!

Good job to the owner and staff of this little gem! 1st time in Rexburg on a tour of BYU Campus before daughter starts hers college life and we were looking for a spot to hang out. This place definitely delivered. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Location is super close to Campus (then again everything is haha). Food selection is better than expected for a small town. When we were told the burger was big, this was not an exaggeration (at first almost didn’t get it since we have a long list of excellent burger places back home in Texas, but so glad we got it! Thing is huge and made with quality beef) Sushi was decent and would try others. Hawaiian meat dishes were also yummy but chicken was a little cold. The one thing I’d say can improve is speed. Could be the small town feel or how busy it got and might be understaffed but improving this would make and even better experience next time we come to town.
