So I lived at the Cedars when they were just the Willows.. Iâve been here a while. I have a few pros and a few cons.
Cons They find any reason to charge you (cleaning fees, end of the semester white glove fee, etc). They charge so much money per person for small things in the apartment. We had maybe 1 or 2 bags of food left in the refrigerator and itâs about $10 per bag I think? They charged everyone in my apartment $18. So they made $108 off us.
Theyâve messed up my roommates parking situation. She had already paid for a spot, they forgot to assign her a spot but didnât refund her. They ended up giving her a spot but it was after the semester started. And booting is a mess when the semester starts.
They management has turned pretty robotic. Theyâre super nice people but I honestly donât feel like they try to help people anymore like the used to. They just give everyone the same answer and I guess hope they issue gets resolved.
The womenâs side has a good amount of parking but not enough for everyone. Parking runs out so fast you better be on that if you even want to try and get a spot.
Menâs parking?! HA WHERE. I feel bad for the menâs side. Thereâs hardly enough parking for them and itâs a mess back there. Iâve had my brother and multiple friends get booted because each person in management canât give the same answer as to where Cedars parking is. They should make little handouts of the parking layout and correctly mark Cedars menâs parking.
This one isnât a con because of the management. But the hot tubâs are closed pretty frequently because some people donât know how to use them correctly so management has had to close them down often. This kind of sucks because everyone pays to use the amenities but some people hog them and in one way or another donât really allow other people to use it.
So this is something that I experienced firsthand and it made me pretty upset. I had lived at the Cedars for a very long time and I thought I had a pretty OK/good relationship with the management but apparently not. When the Cedars was created there were no discounts or deals made for the womenâs side. But I have had multiple guy friends who have been able to make deals with the management and get discounts on the menâs contracts. Not fair..? Be consistent please.
Pros I know I said that there isnât a lot of parking but the good thing is that there is a pretty good sized parking garage. And usually you can get a spot on the same level youâre living on. This is pretty nice in the winter time because it gets so freaking cold.
The layouts of the womenâs apartments are awesome and I love how there are respective bathrooms for each room so thereâs really no chance of overcrowding when needing to use the bathroom area.
The location is pretty dang awesome. I had most of my classes on the northern half of campus so for me it was perfect because everything was pretty close.
When you move in you get a cute little discount card for some of the places in Hemming village and thatâs kind a nice.
Update pro: some of the people on the management team are very sweet and kind. And care. Itâs hard to find people in management that are willing to help and be genuine. Again, I was in Rexburg a while and hopped from place to place and The Cedars is one of the places I would recommend solely based on the people. Also remember that all management teams for each housing has certain responsibilities they need to keep based on the rules the school creates. So not all management people are...
Read moreI heard so many great things about this place, so after my mission I was excited to live here. Instead of a fun place to live, it has been a complete nightmare.
First off, they promised EVERYONE parking spots after they oversold/ran out. They would sell a few people spots but then not to other people. It was all really shady business. I finally confronted them in person and they told me they were out and I was on my own. I literally had driven my car across the country and they had told me before I was guaranteed to get a spot. My roommate went down the next day and they sold her a spot????? Um..ok.
There are a number of maintenance problems that management chooses to ignore. Here are a few examples: THERE IS MOLD GROWING INBETWEEN THE WINDOWS. My roommates have lived in this apartment for a year and have been submitting requests over and over and over. They have never done anything. They kicked them out at one point to fix it, but when they came back, nothing had been done. Even MORE mold. This complex has an alarming amount of mold. It's on the ceiling, on the walls, etc. Once again, we have filed complaints and management says it's "fixed". Water Filters. They have given us a super nice fridge with a water dispenser. I mean it would be nice, except the water is super nasty. Our replace filter light came on so we requested a new one. Management was like, "it's been replaced so many times" but they still sent someone up. I watched him replace the filter to find there was no filter. Instead they had been resetting the light. Their dryers don't work. I have hung up my clothes around the room so many times because the dryers don't do anything and I run out of quarters. (They give you quarters, only $1, and make a HUGE deal if you ask for extras.) I literally will have my clothes in for THREE hours and most of the time, they are still wet. I always ask for extra quarters when I get some and I tell them that I them those because their dryers don't work. They always get grumpy and snippy before giving the money to me.
Instead of fixing just a few of these issues, they put their money into buying a brand new car or a cruise that residents can win.
Bottom line: the apartment itself is decent, the wards are fine, the people are good, but management is terrible.
Also if you sign up with a discount, good luck getting it. They are a pain to deal with it when they end up charging you the full amount.
UPDATE: Mangement contacted me to fix all my concerns. The manager who spoke with me (Amy) was incredibly helpful. You can tell she deeply cares about her job and keeping her tenants happy. She solved every single one of my concerns. I wish I had known to go to her with my problems sooner and none of this would have ended up being an issue. Lesson learned:...
Read moreJust graduated, and lived on the fourth floor of the north end of the building. My review will be different than most since the south end and lower floors will have different experiences.
Lived in the Cedars for about 2 years, which is also the longest I have lived out of the 4 different locations I have stayed at.
The apartments have super comfortable couches, close location to campus, an in building gym, and awesome management. There is a theatre room, but I didn't use it much so I can't share my experience with that room. Definitely had a great experience here and highly recommend anybody to move in.
There is plenty of pantry space for your food and to designate room for roommates.
Also you have plenty of room under your bed and in your personal closet to put your stuff. The only place I have seen have a better closet was The Gates, which is very impressive.
Things to be aware of.
It can be pricey to live there since it is a close to campus location but it was cheaper than The Gates when I moved in. Also, there are sometimes deals for early sign up, or for referring people to move in.
There is only one fridge, which can get crowded when shared among 6 men. (I actually got my own mini fridge which solved that problem.)
Wifi can be a problem but it's optix, which everyone has and everyone has a problem with. It's not the management's responsibility to fix it, since it's a company's fault, not the facility's. Management will give you the information to contact them, which was a first for me, everyone else left me to dust when it came to wifi.
Quick tip: When calling optix HAVE OPTIX SEND SOMEONE OVER!!! Optix came to my place and tested the problem and solved the issues. Wifi definitely changes to room and even semester.
Once again, I would recommend anyone to come to the men's cedars and see what it's like. Management is huge thing when living at an apartment and they will do their best to...
