Dixie Bowl & Billiards — Local services in Saint George

There are a few different bowling alleys in town, and this one is the oldest. My siblings worked here as teenagers over 25 years ago, and the place hasn't changed much since that time. It's got an old-school vibe, which is nice, but it's got a few more rules than everywhere else. For example, they only let very small kids use the bumpers, and they only let very small kids use the lighter bowling balls. The other places in town don't have those rules, and our young tween kids appreciate the lighter bowling balls and the ability to use the bumpers elsewhere. They also don't have very good seating, and not everyone can sit at the lane together; some have to sit a bit further back, behind everyone else. I want to first say that the bowling was great. The customer service was terrible though. We entered and went to the counter where the clerk (possibly the owner) was talking with someone about a prized bowling ball. We stood and waited for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged by the clerk. Then when we finally got his attention he continued talking to the other person and mumbled a number (our total). We waited an additional 5 minutes for the clerk to ask us for payment. I wanted to pay cash but was afraid that would have taken even longer. After we paid we were told that we only had 30 minutes to bowl because a league was coming in. If this was said before hand, we would have definitely gone somewhere else. Overall bad...

Prices were completely fair, and I loved the nostalgic feeling of the smaller, slightly older bowling alley. They only have 12 lanes, so they fill up quickly, especially as it seems like the true bowlers of St George frequent this place. Lots of people bring their own bowling balls here. When we arrived the bowling alley was full of what appeared like retirees on group dates. Kind of fun to watch.

If you need balls lighter than 10 lb, you need to ask for them behind the counter. This is important if you have small kids who struggle lugging around let alone bowling with a 10 pounder. The staff here though was fantastic! Really friendly, extremely helpful, and clear with expectations on wait times and prices.
