As a resident who just moved in, I was fully expecting more from this apartment complex than what I've gotten.
For starters, when I went to move in, I fully expected to be able to move in at 10am (which is when the leasing office opens) as the lease document itself does not have a specific "start time". I asked the lady working the front desk if I could move in since I was there with 2 cars full of stuff & since the lease doesn't have a specific start time, I figured she would allow it... nope. She told me I couldn't move in until noon or it would be a fair housing agreement violation. Granted, I've worked in student housing and know a decent bit about the fair housing agreement. There was nothing written in the legal binding document that stated what time I could move in, thus no legal action could have been taken against the property had I moved in at 10am rather than noon. When I did move in, though, I was presented with confusing information about what I owed/didn't owe & my keys didn't work. I couldn't get into my apartment for a solid 30 minutes after checking in at the leasing office.
On top of this, the only way to reach the leasing office is to fully exit the building and walk around it to find the leasing office. This literally seems so counter intuitive to me... why do I have to leave the building to re-enter it just to go to the leasing office?
In regards to the price you pay to live here... do NOT believe what they initially tell you because there are hidden added fees that pop up once you begin the lease signing process. For example, the trash collection fee. While it is nice to have your trash picked up everyday, I think that you should be able to choose if you want that service or not. I personally am okay with taking my trash to the dumpster if that means I can save an extra $10 a month.
Additionally, I live in a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom unit that is very dated... the walls are yellow, the appliances are old, the place is simply just not clean. I literally found a thong, used fake eyelashes, fake nails, ash of some sort, dust, dirt in my bedroom... literally you name it, it was there. I had to go to the extent of literally washing the baseboards, unscrewing the air vents, deep cleaning the carpet, etc. to fully feel like the place was clean since clearly no one inspected the room upon my move-in. This was even after I was told that the bedroom would be inspected and fixed prior to me moving in.
The amenities also are under construction and are unusable making living here basically pointless as a student. I was genuinely hoping to be able to make use of study areas as well as the gym & I simply cannot access any of these things.
I also don't feel the safest here. For instance, today the gate to the parking garage was hit by a resident and now doesn't close... this allows whomever and whatever to enter the garage that I pay $60 a month for secure parking. The location of the building is also not located in the safest part of town, so if safety is something you're worried about, don't live here.
In general, I think there are better places to live in Savannah than The Hue. Please do a lot of research before signing a lease here or you'll likely be finding yourself in a situation where you are looking for a new place to live.
If I were to review this place to a friend, I would simply tell them to look elsewhere because this place is...
Read moreWelcome to The Hue! which in my opinion is a 5.5/10 apartment complex. For starters we have internet that when working is actually quite fast, however, the second it goes down the buildings provider (WorldVue) who has been a known and notoriously unreliable internet company acts like repairing a simple WiFi outage has the same level of difficulty as curing cancer. They will take usually around a week while keeping residents on hold for around an hour about how they have no idea whatâs going on, but hey itâs cheap and works 70% of the time! Your rooms while not too bad have battle scars of water damage and wall tears from previous occupants and neglect thatâs too expensive to repair and make a profit on new residents. At The Hue you have an almost always efficient maintenance team that while good at their job give you a heart attack whenever they knock on your door as if they are a SWAT team ready to execute a search warrant so if you are asleep get ready for an adrenaline fueled awakening if you have an issue. If your issue isnât resolved the first time be prepared to get passively aggressively scolded for making them come back to fully fix the previous issue even though this is the place where you live and there is an issue with it. The gym here while nothing special is almost never occupied with people making it an introverts dream and very peaceful experience. As for your own living situation you will have to share a kitchen and living space with another person or 3 if you are trying to save money which can get quite annoying when you just want to be left alone. The common areas couch is so small that really only one person can comfortably be there at a time so usually your other roommate will just be on that couch the entire day so really only one person will ever use that common room and make that their second room. There are like maybe 4 single rooms here that are always taken that for the rough price of $3,000 a month can be yours! But still come with the aforementioned issues in which case you are better off staying at a nice luxury hotel that doesnât cheap out with their internet. The recent change in management has been nice and they have fixed a few previously neglected issues (the boy who cried wolf type fire alarm) by the previous hands off administration however I think as time has gone on theyâve also fallen victim to the low cost service providers and blame other external factors for their subpar vendors mistakes. While I was gone on break the hue also decided to make some âupgradesâ like new light fixtures that in my opinion made the apartment worse. The contractors who came left drywall debris and old food wrappers in my kitchen and even threw out (or stole) a rug and shelf that I was holding onto for my girlfriend. My entire time here has been mixed but not horrible. There are probably better options for the price they are asking but it could be much much worse so take that with a grain of salt.
TLDR:
One of the most incompetent internet service providers on the planet that (probably due to low costs for management) is still contracted for this building, 6/10 rooms better than SCAD dorms, Efficient but incredibly disruptive maintenance team, cute little gym. New Management who seems to be trying but wonât if it means spending more money to keep things...
Read moreLiving at the Hue is one of the best living experiences I've ever had. I've lived in multiple apartments in Savannah and have rented rooms in several historic homes in the downtown area and none of them have been as comfortable and accommodating as the Hue. Since everything is included in your rent each month, your utility bill is essentially nonexistent/static, which is great for when it gets hot in the summer and chilly in the winter. It also is a HUGE relief not to argue with roommates over splitting bills, because everyone pays their own, and it's online so you don't have to worry about writing checks or going to sketchy places to drop them off. The kitchen has everything you would need, there is ample space and storage for all dishes and pantry goods, and the dishwasher is better than the one I have at home. When it's nice out, I use the pool at least once a week. It's regularly cleaned and so nice to relax next to. There's also a pool table (that's free to play unlike at the bars) and a gym that is the perfect size for a quick workout without feeling too crowded. If I had to pick my favorite part about living here, it would have to be the staff. All of the staff members are young and with it, and every interaction I've had has been positive and helpful. The head management puts the needs of the residents before their own, and I've seen them working really late hours to make sure that everyone feels safe and taken care of. Everything from package deliveries, to getting locked out of your room (which I am VERY guilty of), to just simple questions are answered with a smile. It's incredible, I've never felt more supported or confident in what's happening in my apartment complex and with my community of neighbors. But the absolute BEST part about this apartment complex is the maintenance. In every apartment or house I've lived in, if there was a problem with the sink, the drain, the dishwasher, the locks, etc. it would take at least two weeks for the landlord to send someone over to fix it. In one case, it never got fixed at all. But at the Hue, you just log onto the same website where you pay your rent and fill out a maintenance request for whatever is broken, and they literally fix it THE NEXT DAY. It's like Amazon Prime for broken stuff, it's seriously amazing. Anything from light bulbs needing to be replaced to a full on washer/dryer disaster is taken care of quickly and professionally. As far as safety is concerned, I see a lot of people commenting about it being across from a project community. I understand that may make some people feel uncomfortable, but the Hue actually has a zero-break ins record from Yamacraw, and if people continue to comment about how unsafe they feel, it's probably coming from a place of racism, because from the people I've talked to who live there, all of them keep to themselves and know better than to mess with a building filled with students who go to mostly SCAD. My apartment and car have never been broken into, but when I lived in three different locations near Forsyth park my windows were smashed twice and my house got broken into and raided. You can't guarantee 100% wherever you live, but at the Hue, it's pretty close. I cannot say enough good things about living here, and if people complain about it, they're not looking at it...
