I've been a member of Henry's for the past 8 months. I won't focus too much on the gym as that's been thoroughly covered (the decor is incredible, the people are friendly and welcoming, and its always extremely clean). Like most folks, I've struggled with my fitness journey. Starting up only to fall off after a month or two. After a few months, try again, rinse-repeat. I was stuck on this hamster wheel for years.
For me, Henry's has been different and I believe it's why I've been able to stick with it so much longer this time (and finally experience the benefits I was seeking). Unlike most gyms, the folks at Henry's aren't just interested in selling you a gym membership you never use, just to collect their fees for a year before you cancel. In fact the owner told me this explicitly, "If you want a membership, of course I'll sell you one, but I don't think you'll stick with it unless you change the pattern." After some discussion, I decided to give it a shot. We decided to start me off working with a trainer for a few sessions who could keep me committed and responsible at least through the first month (2x a week). This would alleviate the pressure of programming workouts, tailoring them to my current fitness level and pre-scheduling when I would workout next would help hold me accountable to showing up.
Though I had never met him before our first workout, Danny was to be my trainer, and honestly I've never looked back. For the past 8 months he has shown up - on time (this is super important to me) - to every session prepared with a workout planned (also important) based on my current fitness goals with a backup just in-case I request we focus on something else if I'm too sore, or just want to mix it up for the day. He constantly checks in on my overall health inside and outside of the gym and is attentive to my form on every rep to prevent injury, calling the set if he sees it degrading. Even if I don't want to push myself, he pushes me. When I went through a lull, he was there to encourage me, and help me restructure my training plan to prevent falling off.
TLDR: he's a professional, in an industry where that is anything but the norm, and for the foreseeable future, I intend to keep training with him.
Now, while I'm still happy to give a 5 star review, I don't want this to be all praise and come off dishonest. There is some room for improvement at Henry's in my opinion. There are 2 main facets I would like to see improvement on:
The music is always the same genre and repeats too often. It takes a while only being in there an hour or so a day, but eventually you realize its a X hours playlist on randomized repeat, and once you do: game over, it'll start bugging you and you'll require headphones. Flexibility in personal training packages. While I think the new subscription option is nice, being limited to only 2 days a week is not ideal, it would be better if choice of days/etc were able to be structured in a way that works for the...
Read moreTL;DR: The management and cancellation policy are purposefully predatory! The facility is okay.
I was a member at Henry’s for 12 months. I needed to cancel my membership since I was moving in January 2025. When I called the gym on 1/17 to cancel, I was told to send them an email. They did NOT mention there was a 30-day notice period. I sent the email requesting to cancel my membership on 2/1 after I had moved. They responded to the email and told me I needed to request the cancellation IN-PERSON after they previously told me to just send an email. When I went in person on 2/6 during office hours, the staff there had the audacity to tell me I still couldn’t cancel because the gym manager wasn’t there after I had already drove all the way out. I made an appointment with the manager on 2/7 and made another drive to the gym after work, but the manager said I would be charged another $110 since it was less than 30 days before the end of the month.
When I expressed my frustration to the manager, he said, “no one put a gun against your head when you signed the membership agreement.” When I explained why the policy is predatory and violates new FTC subscription cancellation rules, they mentioned that it doesn’t take effect until April. So the management here is 100% aware and deliberate with their predatory practices, and they are trained to nickel-and-dime customers to the fullest extent of the law, wasting their time, money, and energy.
He also condescendingly warned me that litigating this would cost more time and money than just paying the extra $110, and he even threatened to shatter my credit score by sending the payment to their collection agency if I didn’t pay the $110 on time. Requiring an appointment that serves no other purpose than making it intentionally inconvenient to skim more money is extremely distasteful. Arguing that “well it is the policy” instead of doing honest business smears their ill-intent all over.
If you read the other reviews here, you’ll see this is a pattern of behavior, and they have scammed many clients this way. I wished I had read these reviews before signing up. I reported the gym to the WA State Office of the Attorney General for their predatory cancellation policies. Scummy businesses like this should not...
Read moreBeware of Predatory Practices and Rigid Policies at Henry's Gym!
TL;DR: Henry's Gymnasium uses high-pressure sales tactics and fails to communicate critical cancellation policies clearly, leaving members trapped in rigid, inflexible contracts. Despite great facilities, the poor customer experience and lack of transparency make this gym a frustrating choice.
Review: I joined Henry's Gymnasium (Capitol Hill location) in January 2025 but quickly realized it was not a good fit for me. Unfortunately, my experience has been marred by high-pressure sales tactics, lack of transparency, and inflexible cancellation policies that have left me feeling trapped in a 12-month membership.
Here's what happened: Pressured Signup: During the tour, I was told that the attractive membership plans I was offered would not be available once I left the building. This created unnecessary pressure to make a decision on the spot, leaving little time to fully review the terms. Lack of Communication on Cancellation Rights: While the 3-day cancellation clause is buried in the membership agreement, it was never verbally emphasized during the signup process. Additionally, the Policies and Procedures document provided after signing completely omits this critical policy. Rigid Policies: Despite reaching out to the gym during the first week of my membership to express my concerns, the management refused to cancel my membership. I've only used the gym three times and even informed them that I'd be relocating in June, making the 12-month commitment impractical. Despite this, they have remained inflexible.
While the facilities themselves are great, the customer experience has been far from smooth or considerate. Other gyms in the area, like Rain City Fit and PNW Fitness, provide much more flexible and transparent policies, making them a better choice for anyone seeking a stress-free fitness experience.
I strongly advise potential members to carefully review all terms before signing up and to be cautious of the high-pressure tactics used during the enrollment process. For me, this experience has been a frustrating and costly lesson in the importance of...
