Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island — Local services in Tybee Island

Our homeschool group just visited the Burton 4-H Center and we had a blast! Facility: We found the dorms to be clean upon arrival. There were several bunk beds and a bathroom, which contain several showers and toilet stalls. An additional room was attached with a bathroom for counselors. It was definitely camp style but that made it fun. The kitchen was clean and organized for each meal. The Educational Classes: Burton 4-H offers a wide variety of interesting classes that cater to multiple ages and learning styles. Each class had a multisensory element to it which helps keep the kids engaged. So much learning is happening in these classes and the kids have so much fun! The Staff: I can't say enough good things about the wonderful staff at Burton 4-H! Whether they were teaching a class, driving a bus, or serving a meal, each staff member had a kind, positive attitude which created a wonderful learning environment! The Staff implemented an organized outdoor educational program that was engaging and interactive. They were super knowledgeable about the material they were teaching and willing to answer multiple questions from the students as time allowed. The Burton 4-H staff also went to great lengths to ensure everyone's health and safety. They offered food alternatives for those with food allergies and made sure everyone was aware of the safety rules for on and off campus classes. This was an amazing opportunity for laughing and learning for our students. The 4-H coinselors were highly knowledgeable in all classes that were taught and very polite. They struck the perfect balance of keeping all of the kids engaged while also maintaining full control over the classroom, even if it was outside and full of distractions, as most were.

All of the facilities were clean, fully functional, and comfortable, and the cafeteria meals were well planned and prepared. Dietary needs were also accommodated, which isn't always easy.

The Burton 4-H counselors and staff should know they made a lasting impact on these kids. You know you've done something right when a dorm full of middle-schoolers goes to sleep talking about their favorite classes and experiences during the day.

I've been coming here with my students for over 8 years! I enjoyed staying at the 4H center with my students. The food was AWESOME! The classes were amazing. I really enjoyed the staff and how knowledgeable they were.

Seeing the animals and being about to learn about them with a hands on approach was unforgettable!
