Upmarket Japanese restaurant in West End. We came across this restaurant when we were looking for a place to eat on a rainy day. We couldn’t quite find anything that caught our eye or piqued our interest, until we found Ippin. It was tucked away upstairs and away from the normal bustling West End village. With the pink leaves of a decorative cherry blossom tree, we were lead to the entrance of this beautiful restaurant. They have stair or elevator access, depending on your preference/ needs. The first thing I noticed about the restaurant was the beautiful fit-out and decor. It was all decorated so beautifully and made you want to dine with them. It is definitely not a casual sushi joint, and the staff definitely don’t treat you like a casual diner. They greet you and welcome you in, and all the staff say something in Japanese to welcome you. The tables are neatly set up and service is attentive and quick. In terms of food options, there was a relatively large range of menu items, from a la carte to set menus. They also had bento box options, which were great! The food is definitely a bit more on the pricey side, which is probably to be expected, given the look of the restaurant and service. We got the beef noodle soup and a bento box. - The beef noodles were presented beautifully, with the thinly sliced beef sitting on top of a bed of noodles. The waiter pours the soup over it, in front of you, and leaves you with the ___ on the side, to add yourself! The flavours and textures in this were great. The noodles were cooked well and the soup was good. It just made you want more!! I would definitely recommend this dish. - The grilled chicken bento box was also very aesthetic and had a number of components. The tofu was quite nice but nothing super special. The sashimi was fresh and a good cut of fish. There was also beef, tuna and egg squares. They were cold, which was a bit interesting, but nonetheless nice :) The grilled chicken was quite nice and crisp, but I’d say that the underside was a bit burnt, leaving a bit of a charred aftertaste… Overall, it was nice to try but I probably wouldn’t opt for the bento again I’d probably recommend coming here on a special occasion. It is a bit more pricey but the staff definitely make you feel more special than just dining at a normal Japanese’s restaurant.

I came to this restaurant because of Instagram and all the reels they had on the bento meals. Overall i'd give this resto a 7/10 and this is why: I feel like the food itself is considered okay, but i wouldn't say it blew my mind. I went to dinner and got the croquettes and one of the sashimi with starters. The bento boxes are very instagrammable! and so cute! all the goods are cooked fresh. Though i'd say they could be a bit tastier, and the wagyu beef could've been cut into tinier pieces so they are easier to swallow, and sashimi could've been added more stuff. i did only order the small bento box so that might also be on me. All the other foods were tasty, but as i said before, I was expecting for something marvelous due to the hefty price tag. The service on the other hand was top notch! One of the people that served us (Andrew) gave us a full fledged presentation on what the meals are, and also gave really specific recommendations for our preferences. He could also speak cantonese which made things alot easier for my HK friends (i honestly feel like he graduated with a Masters degree on Marketing HAHA). Water glasses are constantly refilled, servers are always alert to help out, loved it! They were also very keen to hear how our experience with IPPIN went, which signifies that they are keen to provide better food and service in the future! Would i come back? Yes but probably not anytime soon, As i do hope there is more in the menu (and pictures as well) to make this place a good visit! Alot of potential indeed! What i would recommend: bentos 100% ! get the big one if ur hungry though

I recently dined at an upscale Japanese restaurant and wanted to share my experience. While the food was of good quality, the service left much to be desired. Firstly, I must say that the Japanese cuisine served at this restaurant was delicious. The ingredients used were fresh and of high quality, and the dishes were beautifully presented. The sushi was particularly noteworthy, with each piece melting in my mouth and bursting with flavor. However, the slow pace at which the food was served was disappointing. It felt like we were waiting forever for our dishes to arrive, and at times we were left wondering if our order had been forgotten. This was especially frustrating given the high price point of the restaurant. Furthermore, the service was lacking in other ways as well. Our waiter seemed disinterested and unresponsive when we tried to ask for recommendations or make special requests. At one point, we had to flag down another server just to refill our water glasses. Despite the subpar service, the food quality was good enough to make the overall experience enjoyable. However, I would caution others to manage their expectations when it comes to the service at this restaurant. If you're willing to overlook slow and inattentive service in exchange for delicious Japanese cuisine, this place may be worth a visit.

We came at lunch for our anniversary and got the $50pp banquet, and tea. The service was wonderful, the restaurant is beautiful and I loved the serve-ware that was used for our dishes. The portion sizes were great and we left feeling satisfied. Unfortunately, the spot we were seated was quite hot in the sun although the curtains were drawn and we were quite literally sweating at the table towards the end of our meal. The soft shell crab salad was an interesting combination of cooked vegetables with raw spinach leaves. Salad tasted quite boring, listed in the sample menu was ponzu dressing but there was no dressing on this salad as it was plain. The inside of the karaage was juicy however the outer layer was quite dry, potentially due to being over fried or could be attributed to the use of rice krispies in the batter. The mochi dessert was personally not my taste but up to you. Everything else as shown in the pictures was delicious, especially the wagyu sushi and the salmon which was the main dish. I think this banquet was worth it overall but a few components could be improved!

I wanted to take my wife somewhere special for her Birthday. She enjoys Japanese food (especially sashimi) and we have been wanting to try Ippin. The booking process was straightforward and communication was clear. On arrival, there was a lovely card wishing my wife happy birthday. The restaurant is in a busy area of west end, however, the restaurant is positioned outside of the hustle and bustle with a view of west village. Looking out of the restaurant, it is surrounded by greenery as if looking over treetops. It provides a very calming and relaxed dining experience. The staff were very friendly, upbeat and well presented. Our waitress for the evening (Alex) was very attentive to the table. A big thank you to Alex for making a wonderful evening. The food was very well presented with fresh ingredients. We found the food to be very flavourful and each of the dishes unique. There are other dishes we would like to try, and we look forward to attending again.

Amazing service and atmosphere with beautiful presentation the dishes. If I could give 4.5, I would. If the owners are reading this, can I recommend not putting gold in the food. Personally I find it a bit tacky. I felt very welcome and comfortable in a gorgeous environment. This was clearly the best part of the experience. The food was hit and miss; we ordered the cheaper 8 course dinner menu and some of the dishes were incredibly tasty, but others seemed a bit uninspired for this class level of restaurant flavor wise. Not bad, just average. While the ingredients were all fresh, they used cheaper (but high quality) ingredients; it matches the low cost of the course menu so was understandable. Another constant is everything looked very inviting to eat and significant effort was put into the visual impact of the dishes. Overall I think it was a great experience, and the cost was very reasonable for the level of restaurant.
