I know this is a popular place and as it's normally crowded I figured it must be good, so tried it one night after work (Jan 2018) for drinks and dinner. I was bitterly disappointed. The wine list is not very extensive (yes, I know it's predominantly a beer place, but given it's 2018 most decent pubs today offer a reasonable wine list), and for the price I paid for a small glass of wine, I'm better off paying a lot more for a bigger glass of decent wine elsewhere. Then it came to the bangers and mash. Perhaps the chef's taste buds are not working properly - this was SO salty I got through an entire litre of water while trying to eat the meal. We had already ordered our meal and were half way through our drinks when we were asked to move as a band was about to set up where we were sitting. Geez, why not just cordon off the area beforehand instead of having to relocate people and inconvenience them? My friend enjoyed his beer and beef and guinness pie, and the decor is quite nice. It's these two latter points that encouraged me to give 2 stars. Sadly I won't be back. I reckon unless you're a beer lover, and you're not too fussy about your food, then go for it. Otherwise just try elsewhere.

Update 11.12.24 - Things have changed a little since first review. Tonight I ordered 300g sirloin medium, it was medium well but that’s ok. The change though has been the level of service, previously 5⭐️, this time I am being generous with a 3⭐️ only because most staff are still vibrant and lovely. I picked up my dinner and asked for a fork as there wasn’t one on the table. The young lady, who I am sure is learning the ropes (I hope) who told me to go find one, they are on the tables. Now if I was at Karen’s, I’d get it, but all I wanted was a steak and something to enjoy it with. I still rate the place, I think it’s amazing, I just hope the young lady learns that when providing food, clientele require the basics to eat it with, if they ask for something like a fork, go get them one, it’s called customer service. Consistently good food, most nights have live entertainment. Staff are amazing.

Irish Murphy’s is an easy-to-access public bar in central Brisbane at the business area, George Street, offering a classic Irish vibe with live music on select days. The place is quite spacious, with plenty of tables and cozy side seating. Their drink menu features a decent range of beers, ales, and ciders, along with a fair whiskey selection. Staff are friendly and welcoming, adding to the laid-back atmosphere. While the drinks are enjoyable, the food doesn’t stand out, and prices lean slightly on the higher side. A good spot for drinks and music, less so if you’re after a memorable meal.

Will never step foot in this place again.

We were there to celebrate a friends birthday, had been in there around an hour, had been socialising with different groups laughing and joking and having a good time.

We were at the bar and had just ordered a round of drinks when 6 security guards came and told us we need to leave.

As we had no prior warnings to what we had done and weren't being rowdy we were a little confused to say the least, they wouldn't explain what we had done but nevertheless we agreed to leave calmly.

Once outside we asked the security guards what we had done... They came back and said one of the bar staff said we were being racist towards Asians.

To put it into context one of the guys in our group had previously lived in china for 5 years and became proficient in speaking Chinese. We had met a Taiwanese guy in the smokers that also speaks Chinese and my friend wanted to buy him a drink. We were stood at the bar and my friend was practicing his Chinese with the guy.

From the bar staffs prospective this would of been unusual seeing a white guy chatting to an Asian bloke in Chinese but they should of been able to read the body language and facial expressions to understand my friend wasn't being racist in any way shape or form and they were both just enjoying conversation in the Taiwanese blokes native tongue.

Once we had found out what the reason was my friend tried to plead his case with the security but they weren't interested in listening to any logic what so ever.

To be labelled as a racist is absolutely disgusting and seriously offensive. If your bar staff can't read people they shouldn't be given the power to get groups thrown out because of their own ignorance.

This is my second time visiting this place and the first time we were almost thrown out because the security guards thought we were fighting with a guy in the toilets, luckily the guy seen what was happening and ran over to them to explain we were actually laughing and joking and not fighting at all.

The live music is good and the people in the place are good but the bar staff and security seriously need some training on how to read a situation and also how to address it.

If your looking for somewhere to celebrate and let your hair down I wouldn't recommend this place, the fact I have only been here twice and both times been involved in situations through bad judgement from the staff is outrageous.

Overall the place has a dingy vibe, floors are sticky, toilets and other areas are unkept and dirty, bar staff are rude and have zero character. Pretty much as far from an Irish bar as...

Dinner on Thursday 31/3/22. Well walked in optimistically haven't been in a fair few years. But use to be a great place in the day. Seems to have slid a bit. Where do I start. Firstly didn't bother reserving the table for 5 of us that was made that afternoon, took 30 minutes for 5 meals, 3 X pies, 2 X parmies, only presented us 4 meals, I asked wheres the other meal there is 5 of us, he checked the docket said there was only 4 meals, well the 5th meal was behind him, handed to him by the big fella behind the bar, no apology just rudeness and arrogance. Also a shame that they allow the band on a Thursday night to play so loud. Shame the venue hasn't gotten with the times in realising that 90% of the customers weren't there for the band and you had to yell to speak to the person beside them. Get with the times a band on a Thursday night is not centre stage, but the background music to be played lowly in the background, so that people can tap there foot too but still talk to their friends who they're there to see. The best part of the night was when the band was...
