This was my first time trying Joes Famous Deli. Went to the Brisbane city shop, in Albert st. The atmosphere and decor was awesome. Very Italian/american feel. The service was also excellent. The lady at the counter was very friendly, polite and approachable. And very good all round. The menu is very good. But- there are a coupla things I would like to see change. The size of the sandwich. Yes they are good sized. Yes they are very tasty. But….. they could actually be a bit bigger. When you go to a deli.. specially an Italian/American style deli. You expect a proper sized sandwich. As an example… same size as a foot long subway. These are a bit smaller. The bread. They serve them on a soft sesame seed bun. I think they should keep to the Italian/American tradition and serve them in proper crusty rolls. The sandwich rolls you have to chew a bit. Hard crust… soft inside. Real sandwich. And this one is really important…. Specially considering the above. the pirce A sandwich with shoe string ships and a small plastic container of truffle mayonnaise and a “joes lager” beer in a small can with a complementary cold beer glass….. all this was just short of $42.00! Now… I’m sorry but…. For what your getting… yes it taste awesome…. But it’s not worth paying $42 for a sandwich, fries and a beer or soft drink. So…. All in all… good food. Good service. Good set up. But sandwiches need to be proper length and size. They need to use proper hard crust sandwich rolls. (As real Italian/American sandwiches come) and they MUST lower the prices. Because $42 is waaayyyyyty...
Read moreGreat food and a diner-like atmosphere here! The first time I came here I had the chilli dog with a side of fries, the dog was a nice hearty meal with good flavour with a little heat with the jalapenos on top and served hot. The fries were not too salty, crispy and fresh.
My second trip a couple days later from the photos was when I had the Reuben sandwich or Joey's Reuben. The sandwich was great, the pastrami serving was plenty whilst not being dry. The other flavours from the sauerkraut, pickle and mustard acidity did not take the focus away from the pastrami too much. I thought the bun would be a bit crispy from the sear marks, but this was not a deal breaker for me, the bun itself was a good amount of fluffy. Though FYI you will get messy fingers from the oil and juice that comes out.
Service was good, they brought the food to me on my first lunch visit, but the second time they used what seems like their standard system where you scan the QR code to submit your order, then they text you to come collect it at the counter. When I left to collect my order and came back to my table, I saw someone was about to walk over and take my table, and I wondered if they've had any issues like that before where someone steals a table. That's probably a minor thing for the experience though, and the diner itself is quite small anyway.
I would have tried a milkshake if they had any. I will be back for a...
Read moreIf you’re on the hunt for a killer sandwich in Brisbane, look no further than Joe’s Deli! We stopped by for lunch and left with full bellies and huge smiles. The vibe here is unbeatable, a retro throwback to the ‘60s with diner-style booths that make you feel like you’re in a time warp (in the best way possible). Service? On point! Friendly and fast, they don’t miss a beat.
Charlene went for a classic ham, cheese, and tomato toastie, even though it wasn’t on the menu, they delivered like champs. This sanga was packed with an ambulance of ham, perfectly melted cheese, and juicy tomato. The bread? Not sure what kind, but it was heavenly. Big tick for that!
Ronny opted for the OG, a monster of a sandwich loaded with Inferno Salami, Mortadella, Cured Ham, Iceberg Lettuce, Provolone, Yellow Mustard Aioli, Pickled Cucumber, and Red Onion. Every bite was a flavor bomb, with the perfect balance of salty, tangy, and savory. It hit the spot in a major way!
We only scratched the surface with these two sandwiches, but trust us, we’ll be back to sample more before we leave Brisbane. If you’re in town, do yourself a favor and swing by Joe’s Deli, you...
