It seems to be the new way of breakfast cooking in some Surfers Paradise cafes of late it to "Pre-Cook" everything you can. Montmarte is the second cafe in a week that we've eaten at where I've wanted to just upend the table and walk away. Paying $45.54 for a breakfast for 2 and you would expect fresh cooked food, I mean it's eggs and sausages ffs. I ordered 2 poached eggs, tomato and toast with a side of sausage and my better half smashed Avo with crumbled fetta and a side of one poached egg with emphasis on the egg being soft "please ensure the egg is very soft". Waitress was training a newbie and even showed her where to add a note with the order and repeated as she was typing it in "runny egg". See attached photos that show a broken up egg on toast (this came off my wife's plate and was barely slightly runny) alongside 2 cremated sausages that you cannot get like that without sitting in a hot oven for a long period of time - a bain marie cannot do this! The 2 other poached eggs in this picture were rock solid, but I failed to request otherwise so no complaint there. But from experience it would take a lot longer than we waited for our order to cook eggs that hard, I have cooked professionally for numbers of 300+ in a single sitting for breakfast - solo. And 2nd photo shows allegedly "Smashed Avo" which was basically a smear of Mashed Avocado across toast. Avo was the main ingredient of the dish NOT Tomato! Really sick of paying top dollar for sub-standard food. Great, attentive staff who were sympathetic to our complaint ( lady who was training the newbie said she could see the sausages were way past overcooked). Business owners, vet your short-order cooks, they are not chefs and can barely call themselves cooks. New to the area and are slowly weeding out the places we won't be...
Read moreToday i had the unfortunate opportunity to have breakfast at Montmartre By The Sea. I'm giving them 1 star only because I can't give no stars. I was extremely disappointed to say the least. The food was disgusting. The service was almost as bad. I ordered Eggs Benedict because a staff member recommended it, stating it was very popular. The presentation was absolutely appalling and couldn't possibly be prepared by a qualified chef. It tasted as bad as it looked, a tiny flattened muffin, smothered in butter with a slice of cold bacon and half a cold, hard tomato that had been cooked for about 30 seconds on one side.
I expressed my concerns to the staff as soon as it arrived and they couldn't care less.
My daughter had pancakes with a rotten banana's. We sat near the kitchen and noticed all the no brand cans lined up on the shelf. This is the quality ingredients/food they use and yet the cafe is charging top dollar for it.
Honest, do yourself a favour and keep walking.
I have never been so disgusted. I think the health food inspector should pay them a visit.
After reading through the reviews, im not the only one to have an experience like this.
It looks as though the only thing this Cafe has going for it is the location....
Read moreWhat a shame. This place used to have great food. Ordered here on the weekend of the Airshow and what a disappointment. It's very rare that I speak up but on this occasion I was so livid, I asked the waitress to take back our dish because it was disgusting. We ordered the Nachos because the girl who served us looked at us with confusion when we ordered wedges off the menu, only to find out that they don't serve them??? So, Nacho's it was. Well, they looked and tasted like they came out of a display unit and thrown in the oven to be heated up. The corn chips were black and the avocado was brown with a very slight tinge of green..The kids chips were a hit but it's pretty hard to get that wrong. Atmosphere 4 stars because it's a high traffic area and seating is across the road from the beach. I must note that we were refunded the money for our Nachos almost instantly, however, a restaurant/ cafe with the amount of exposure it has to a world stage of potential customers on a daily basis should have fresh quality foods cooked by chefs who take pride in their craft and staff to match.. Extremely disappointing. Definitely NACHO...
