This was the biggest mistake during my trip to Vienna. Aida attracts with its “Barbie” interior and I honestly believed it has to be really good cuz of all the crowd on entrance. We were there in the evening, waited patiently to be sited, but got our menus in 10 minutes after sited. Okay, we saw it was a busy place. But the whole visit took around hour to just get a coffee and a piece of cake. I don’t blame personnel to be slow or inattentive though, this place is VERY understaffed. I think there was 1 waiter for 18-19 tables. Waiters do their best, but in the end of the day it was very sad to see people that much exhausted, trying to still smile and be polite with you. I’ve ordered Mozart and cappuccino. Cappuccino was simply fine, there’re so many other places with much better coffee. The worst thing was Mozart cake, it was first dessert I’ve tried in Vienna and I couldn’t even eat half of it. I’m sorry, but it actually is disgusting, had a feeling that I was eating pure “diabetes” 🥴 It was so beautiful, but over-too much-enormously sweet, with mastic sticking to your teeth. My friend ordered a different cake, you can see it on the pic, it was less disgusting than Mozart, but still dry and enormously sweet. I don’t recommend this place, but if you still go there, please leave tips to waiters, they work hard.

Aida is an iconic chain of espresso bars that double as popular pastry shops. The branch on Wollzeile is my favorite Aida, and it’s been very well preserved from the 1950s on. It features the original wood paneling. plus the espresso machine island in the middle. This one has a style all its own: The color of the brand is a cute pink! Waitresses are dressed in pink, tables are often pink. It would be a perfect setting to try something pink like the Viennese petit four called Punschkrapfen. It’s been said the Austrian is often seen as such a Punschkrapferl because its exterior is pink like the Social democrats but its interior is brown, the color of the Nazis, and always soaked in alcohol. (This 1980s bonmot is often attributed to Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard, but it goes back to the psychiatrist Erwin Ringel).

Iconic chain of cafés, but nothing out of the ordinary. The coffee was good and the pastries were tasty, but as I said, nothing extraordinary. We were hoping to get an Apple Strudel, but they were put of it. I would expect the café to have their most popular pastry in stock throughout the whole day, but unfortunately that’s not the case. Nevertheless, the truffle chocolate cake, plum pastry, apple pie and cheese pastry were all very tasty! I especially liked the Truffle cake. The Cappuccino and Americano were also very good. Watching the single-person staff is an entertainmentin itself. The person who served us was very fast, helpful and super friendly! Overall, very nice place for a quick break.

If I could I would give this 0/5 stars. Maybe I'd change my mind if I actually tried the food, but thanks to our waiter we had waited 45 min for our order (and we ordered ONLY 2 pastries to table - which they have already prepared in the glass case) when we got the news that they are out of what we ordered. The staff was EXTREMELY rude, the waiter spilled out my water and barely wiped it, and each time I called him to ask for a new water and actually cleaning up the table he said "moment". And he did it few times more. In the end he asked another waiter to come to us, what he did, but when he saw we had our coffees, in the middle of my sentence he turned to another table. They were in such hurry i could barely say ONE sentence - that's what made me angry the most. I saw them standing between the tables, looking around and doing nothing, so it's not like they actually had that much to do. I don't know, i came out of there starting off my day very frustrated and wasting 45mins of the time we could spend in a museum. In the pamphlet they proudly say this family business is dedicated strongly to making customers from all walks of life smile. Well, most definitely didn't...

The bakery manager (I guess) on 04/11/23 at the end of the day with doors closed, saw me just admiring your beautiful bakery, the cakes still on display and observing the busy closure of the day and came out of his way, invited me to come in and choose anything as “my eyes were shining through the window”. I asked the best seller and he suggested me Sachertorte, a slice of the traditional wien chocolate cake and literally made me the happiest person walking down the streets with a perfect packed pink and white box in my hand! I am now at home enjoying a delicious chocolate treat. Little things in life that make all the difference and I will remember this as the sweetest moment of my first time in Wien! Please let him know that he delivered was one of the best customer service I experienced in my life, and I work with customer service for over 20years and was a bakery manager myself for 10! I will definitely return tomorrow for breakfast and will recommend it to all my friends and family!...
