Pretty good quality on the whole for your basic pub fare. We eat here several times per year.
The "bangers and mash" are always good, tasty and and deceptively filling. Nice Irish pork sausages in a sweet, thick, onion gravy with your spuds.
The fish an chips are usually good, with a large, thick portion of (probably) cod in a nice crisp batter. Maybe it's my memory fading, but I'm pretty sure it used to come with some nice mushy peas, but now it's just your standard frozens. On one occasion (out of about 6 times ordering fish & chips), it was a soggy, thin, horrible show of a fish with manky thin McDonalds-style chips. Last time I went though (July 2016), it was all fine again (except no mushy peas).
Experience shows that the onion rings, tacos with dips and burgers are all so-so (better to go to 1516 pub across the street if you want a burger).
They have Guiness, Murpheys, Strongbow etc. A 0.5L glass will cost you €5 to 6.
If you're into sports, they have several TVs and in the basement a function room.
Staff are always nice. Service can be a little slow. It can be dark if you sit inside.
Prices are reasonable. Toilets are authentic 1960's Irish horror-show and the gents stink to high heaven! Apparently, they are renovating them (about...
Read moreI've been going reasonably regularly to Flanagans since 2012, which is when I first moved to Vienna.
Today we went and ordered a large breakfast from the breakfast menu. The price stated is 12€. When we received the bill we were charged 13€ for each breakfast. When we queried why this was so, the barman said it was a misprint and we should pay the higher amount. When I asked if we should be penalised for a misprint, he said yes, and after more dilberation, said if we needed it that much and it meant that much to us, he would refund us the difference in obvious disdain. I'm not used to such a response from bar/waiting staff when dealing with genuine customer concerns.
He needs to adjust his attitude and understand that overcharging customers is not OK. If we don't receive an immediate apology, we definitely won't be coming back.
For the record, the breakfast today was poor. The sausages were undercooked and anemic and the bacon was tough. But we ate it without causing a fuss, but definitely drew the line at being overcharged for it. If the breakfast menus were misprinted, I suggest they are thrown in the bin, along with the disgusting attitude...
