[Deceptive Billing and Communication Chaos] My husband and I chose this restaurant for lunch due to its good Google reviews. Arriving around 2 PM, we were handed an English menu by a man who seemed to be the owner / manager. As I wasn’t familiar with the dishes, so we decided to order from the lunch menu - displayed in the first page of the menu, which listed 2 options: chicken schnitzel and a vegan dish (each around €10) available until 2:30 PM.
I placed our order at the counter, pointing to the lunch menu page and requesting 01 chicken and 01 vegan options, which the waitress confirmed with a nod and "okay." After our meal, we were shocked to receive a bill of €30.80—far above the lunch menu pricing. When my husband asked for clarification, the lady at the counter confused and went to discussed with the man. After the discussion, the man simply explained that the lunch dishes were “over, it’s over”, so they had served us à la carte versions without informing us.
The explanation felt dishonest, as we had ordered well within the lunch hours and had specifically pointed to the lunch menu page. When asked why we weren’t informed that the lunch menu was unavailable, the man vaguely mentioned a "big buffet" that had caused the dishes to sell out soon. When my husband requested the detailed prices of each dish from the à la carte menu, they struggled to find them. Eventually, they could only locate the dish and its price in the English menu, not the German menu—raising another doubt about a possible price difference between the two versions, though I can’t be sure.
Exhausted, we decided to pay to avoid further conflict. Before leaving, my husband used Google Translate to ask the waitress how we could ensure the lunch menu items were available in the future, even with confirmation. Her response was, "You ordered from the à la carte menu," completely contradicting the earlier explanation about the lunch dishes being out of stock and the fact we order by pointing at the lunch menu page. When we confronted this, she repeatedly said, "I don’t know, I don’t know”.
This experience left me feeling disrespected and scammed. While the food was okay and the environment aesthetically pleasing, the lack of honesty and communication was appalling. I cannot recommend this place—it was a deeply...

We had goulash with home-made bread and salad bar, then Mohr im Hemd (classic Austrian dessert) with lashings of hot chocolate sauce and nougat ice cream - wonderbar! You can eat well and feel you are supporting a good cause at the same time. It's non-smoking too, which not all Austrian restaurants are. Not easy to find though - tucked away at the end of Backerstrasse in a lovely little square with grand buildings....
