Update:
I came back this year to celebrate my birthday once again at Sacher Hotel, which turned out to be an even mistake then coming here in the first place. This time it got even worse, believe it or not. If my first time - when they made fun of and humiliate me - was a failure, this time was a disaster.
And out of respect for the Hotel Manager, a lovely woman named K, who I had a lovely talk to, I will not go into details - and harm the name Sacher even more - about what happened. I am kinda sure that they who needs to know already know. But I will say this much: If a regular guest on the Sacher Hotel had been treated the same way this individual treated me, nothing else then this individual being fired there and then would have been accepted.
Two words. Wow... really...?
The good thing in all this is that I got to meet both Hotel Managers on my visits, Mr A and Mrs K, who truly are polite and friendly. Unlike others who work there. There is a saying that third time everything will be great - but I maybe just should take the hint from some of the employees. Not Welcome.
Never judge the book by its cover.
Sincerely.

They made fun of and humiliate me. Das Personal machte sich über mich lustig und demütigte mich.
To celebrate my birthday I went to the rote bar, When I sat there waiting for my food the waiter came and put things on the table that I didn't order.
I asked him what it was, and I never heard of it and didn't knowed the words in german or english. Since I have allergies and can die, literally, if I eat some things the young man google a picture of it. So I thanked him and he walked away.
Then I sat and looked around when I saw how one of the older individuals in a suit standing inside the bar, talking to someone who I didn't see. The man in suit pointed at me, shooked his head and laughed, rolling his eyes, and then with an ironic smile raised his eyebrowns.
In front of other guests. He actually stod and mock and humiliate a guest in front of other customers.
Thats when he looked at me, and realized I have been watching him, and his smile disappear. So I raised my eyebrowns to him. I did not get the chance to ask him why, because he then left and I didn't saw him anymore. When the food came I had lost my appetite. The woman said I had another schnitzel piece if I wanted. I ate about half of the food and asked to pay.
The waiter, another guy, asked if I didn't enjoyed the food. So I told him about the behaivor of his superior. He didn't know what to say. After I paid 47 euro and 40 cent for the humiliation - first time in my life I actually paid someone who made fun of me - I went to the reception and had a talk with them.
And as I told the woman and man, I wasn't angry at them, even if it was them who had to listen to what I had to say. And yes, there was not one single word that was polite, friendly or nice about what I had to say about him. Trust me on this one.
I know for a fact that this became a thing at the hotel because I went to the cafe afterward to have some cake, and there the manager approached me and apologize for his staffs behaivor.
But it didn't changed the fact for what happened. I wasted 700 euro for a room, and 47 euro 40 cent (will always remember that) just to be humiliated and to get my birthday celebration ruined. He really succeeded with that.
Thank you.
So, will I recommend anyone to go and eat at the rote bar? No, I would not. It's quite obvious that this place isn't for everyone - he made that very clear.
"The rote bar makes fine dining with a viennese flair something truly unforgettable."
Truer words has never been written. It really was...
Read moreThis restaurant is an absolute must visit restaurant if you are looking for fun, excitement, laughter, ambience, spectacular decor and a decent and varied menu of incredulous food. Try the hot teas, they are decent. There were 9 of us and we had a very quiet, silent, informative, educational and memorable dinning experimental experience. Some of the starters worth mentioning are the cheese and chutney tartlets served on a bed of roasted garlic and pilchard paste. Do try the onion and beetroot mousse served on a saffron rice and pea paste dish. 3 of our friends that happen to be triplets, Barry,Harry and Larry absolutely loved the chicken and chives hot pots. And our popular host Alan Alansen really enjoyed the selection of hot and cold breads. Martha O'Hara ,the main organizer of the evening ( and a Michelin student) really loved the hot pies. One of our friends, Melissa indulged in an excellent soup made of fresh garden and root vegetables. Peter, one of 6 vegans of the party absolutely fell in love with the bean and barley stir fry and Jimmy Jameson was merrily getting tucked in to massive slabs of barbeque lamb, wild boar and venison. The main courses were also outstanding, prominent, brilliant and well worth the money we paid for them. A truly marvellous, varied, incredible, excellent, industrious selection of wines permitted us all to further enjoy the brilliant dinner experience. Don't forget to ask for the salad dish preparation that the magnificent waiters are only too happy to show you . Our waiter was polite, elegant, supreme and great. He had a great knowledge of the fresh desserts the chef had prepared, the wines, general matters and social change. I really recommend this restaurant if you are wanting a different and alternative type of dinner experience because the staff, atmosphere, food, wine, service and decor are truly and genuinely out of this world plus spectacular. Try the creamy cakes, they...
Read moreThe Hotel Sacher is an extremely historic and beautiful hotel located directly across the road from the Staatsoper. It is THE PERFECT place to be dining before an evening at the opera. I’d recommend booking ahead for a place by the window.
The luxurious velvet curtains, softly shimmering chandeliers evoke the sense of a private dining room in an imperial palace.
The food was very good: hearty, generous, simple. We had the Wiener Schnitzel and the Roulade, both of which seemed very authentically made. For a classic “Viennese” experience, I think this is probably an extremely good choice.
The pianist is one of the best jazz pianists we have encountered in such European establishments. At 7PM, he starts to play a mix of jazz standards and old tunes (he melted my heart with “Fascination”), with a natural, tasteful embellishment on a muted baby grand tucked snugly in the corner of the restaurant. Imagine: you are sipping your tea after a beautiful meal, with a live jazz pianist playing on one side, and and in the other a duet from La Traviata drifting gently through the windows.
My only other comment would be the wait, as reflected by some other commenters. The wait staff was also rather small, meaning it was more difficult to get their attention. However, the head waiter provided excellent, professional, and efficient service once we notified him that we were tight on time. I would not deduct a star for this, and would absolutely come...
