Suffering from jet lag that was keeping me up late at night, I looked to the Google to find a fun bar in center city that was (miraculously) still open. I found a very cool bar with a few people in it, but all conversing in English. None of them American, but this was the common language among them. Miguel (the bartender) and the others made me feel like I’d found my own “Cheers.” It’s kinda like that. I came back another night, and found it kinda empty at 00:00. But at 2AM, the place became standing room only. People come from the other bars after they close. People in Wien are generally rather guarded. It’s not easy to get to know the locals if you’re a foreigner. Roo Bar is different in this regard. The regulars took me in and made me feel at home.

The staff working that day, I am sorry I can't recall his name but he was an immigrant from Mexico if that helps you identify him (hopefully you get him), he was just one of the most awesome people you will ever meet, his personality infectious, any barkeep/manager as great as him will rub off on his establishment. Read moreTourist: If I'm being totally honest, until I walked Into this bar..... I did not like Vienna... But then I was here. They very clearly have fun regulars, bit they also appreciate new-comers. I'm all about finding local bars in cities, and this was that.
A couple came in, newly engaged, and the bartenders helped them feel portant. This is not their job, but is also so great!
