Super cosy place with Austrian & Mediterranean food. Lovely ambience with classical and opera music playing as you dine. On a quiet street just 5 mins off from the main Stephansplatz square. Best thing about the place, very friendly and warm service - best we've had in Vienna this weekend!
Food was also very delicious. I had the risotto with porcini mushroom and rucola (Steinpilzenrisotto) - mushrooms and rucola were both very fresh and tasty. The risotto was very well cooked and came in a huge portion. My partner had more seasonal dishes - an asparagus cream (Spargelcremesuppe) soup and roast beef with dumplings (Rahmrinderbraten mit Knödel) which were both also very tasty. The asparagus in the soup was soft but not mushy and soup was rich but not too heavy and thick. The roast beef was very tender and went very well with the cranberry sauce it came with.
Drinks were also super refreshing! We got strawberries in sparkling wine (Erdbeer Bowle) on the recommendation of the server and it was spectacular and hit all the right notes with us.
All in all, a great little place - would...
Read moreA great place to go after movies or theatre, or even just for a drink ("Absacker") after dinner. Don't expect American style betrayal with a stick-on smile and bill smashed on the table when you don't order no more, don't expect nouvelle cuisine and soothing bar music in the background. Food is tasty, down to earth, not overpriced, with an incredibly rich menu (food and drinks) given the size of the place which is essentially a 1-man (+cook) show. It runs classic music, also in the foreground, sometimes even videos from opera, you ask for certain pieces (but better stay away from kitschpop Nachtmusik and Donauwalzer). Service is friendly (as long as you are) and paced hassle free. It is not a consumer place, but great to relax, take it easy and, hate to say, but really authentic. If you are ready to take as is, with tongue in cheek, its gonna be a memorable, unique and very...
Read moreOne of our most memorable experiences while visiting Vienna. This is a quaint shop on an unassuming alley in the heart of Vienna selling a variety of traditional Viennese foods and drinks. We went with the beef goulash and the schnitzel both of which were fantastic. The atmosphere inside is homey and welcoming. The night we visited there happened to be a few live musical performances as well which was a pleasant surprise. The owner is a wonderful gentleman who has worked hard for years maintaining his establishment. He took time to sit down with us and get to know us during our meal, providing both food recommendations and company, all while personally servicing the other patrons of his store. I would definitely recommend a meal here to anyone...
