I stopped at Woodpecker around 11 AM on a Sunday in June for a nice brunch before my visit to the Banksy Museum. The restaurant was pretty much full inside when I arrived and I was seated outside. There is a good amount of outdoor seating, with smaller tables for couples and singles and a few tables for parties of four. They also have large tables with bench seating for bigger groups. I ordered the Masala Chaï Latte and the Peck Special, which is a leek waffle with goat cheese, bacon, 2 poached eggs and psycho sauce.
Shortly after I ordered, the restaurant got very busy and about 15-20 people showed up. It seemed like Woodpecker was short staffed this day as there were only two people serving the outdoor space, one person who strictly only took orders and the other who strictly only ran food from the kitchen. They did not have enough printed menus to give everyone so menus had to be passed around the tables. The two employees working outside were clearly very stressed trying to keep everyone satisfied and attended to.
It took about 5 minutes to get my drink (before the rush) and roughly 30 minutes to get my food (during the rush), I didn't mind the wait, it gave me time to sit and plan out the rest of my day while I watched the brunch rush chaos. However, it was difficult to get the attention of the staff once they moved on to serve other parties (no fault of their own, they were incredibly busy)
My latte was delicious, warm, and incredibly smooth. Very sweet too which is the way I like it. Despite the wait, my Peck Special came out hot and very well cooked. The poached eggs were made perfectly and the psycho sauce complimented the dish incredibly well. The staff were very friendly and patient and did their best given the circumstances.
I highly recommend coming here for breakfast or brunch there is a very good variety of options for both food and drinks. I would definitely visit again the next time I find myself...
Read moreWe found this cafe through Google reviews. When we arrived we were greeted with a queue and typically myself and my partner won’t stand in a queue for food 😂 It was the moment the door had opened, which gave us a great indication of what we could expect through the tempting smell of food being prepared.
The coffee was great and the food was delicious and well portioned! I feel portions adequately match pricing. Everything was crunchy, fresh and crisp where need be. As you can see we polished our food! And just a day prior, at a previous restaurant (which won’t be revealed here) this was far from the case.
We can confirm the wait was worth it! And to be honest, we were behind 4 families (so 4 tables) and we didn’t wait an offensive amount of time, otherwise best believe we would’ve left.
ALSO- a BIG plus was the fact that we weren’t shoved out once we were done eating. Even though there was still a queue outside, the waiters let us be and once WE decided we were done, then we left in peace. (I mention this because I’ve experienced horrible service elsewhere where you get shoved out the minute you take your last bite and I’ll never go back for this reason).
I’ll definitely recommend Woodpecker...
Read morePrime location but such a disappointment in service and food. Saw it by coincidence a while ago and decided to try it but it was nothing like the other Peck's
You have to order at the counter where the waiter was having a very cocky attitude while giving us cutlery for 2 while we were with 3.
There's also the lack of basic stuff like burger buns and the way the plates are presented... So we had a burger that was served on a slice of bread with some salad thrown on the the side.
I can understand that some places decide to not do tableservice but it was cringe worthy to see the guy not doing anything while tables were full of empty plates.
In the end though he decided to be active by cleaning the table next to the door, so he removed the curtain that blocks the cold air only to then never put them back and letting cold air coming in because the door was not properly closing.
I didn't understand where the 4,2 stars are coming from because this place is far below belgian standards with prices far above belgian standards which makes me think that this is a resto that is living on tourists.
You want to go to a Peck go to Peck 21 or 47.
