We had lunch at 12:30 PM on a Friday afternoon at Black Forest Steak & Schnitzel. The restaurant sits almost on top of the point where the Harrison river meets Harrison lake, right in front of the Harrison Lagoon. Sadly you can't see the water from the restaurant because of the elevation and barrier wall surrounding the water, but you can see the mountains and it is a lovely spot.
Be WARNED there's a "gotch ya!" paid parking across from the restaurant. When we parked there was no sign anywhere stating you need to pay to park. No visible meter. In fact when we walked from our car to the stairs leading to the water there were no signs stating you needed to park or a meter. Sadly we got at $50 CAD parking ticket. The video attached shows our POV from the car.
The restaurant is adorable and goes all in on the German Black forest vibe with heavy woodwork adorned with carvings and murals on the walls. The restaurant is a decent size inside and has about the same amount of seating outside. There's an uncovered outdoor seating area with umbrella covered tables, as well as a covered/heated outdoor seating area. This is where we sat as it was raining and windy on the day of our visit.
Service was immediate. We never left waiting for anything. If they were watching over us it wasn't obvious, but they were definitely right there if we looked around. They have an excellent wine and beer menu and the food menu was extensive. We both had schnitzel I had schnitzel with pork sausage. The dishes were hugely portioned and came with veggies that consisted of exactly two small blanched carrots, one small broccoli floret and one small cauliflower floret. They veggies were not over-cooked and still had some snap to them and were NOT drowning in oil or butter. They were exactly what I wanted. Some might find it too plain, but I was happy to see vegetable that were not removed of all their health benefits. The potatoes were flavorful and I devoured them all. The sausage that came with Schnitzel was said to be made in house. It was .... just ok... I was happy that it wasn't overly salty like you often have with sausage, but something wasn't quite right.
I had tea to hot drink and was so happy to see they serve Stash Tea Company brand tea. I had a whole small tea kettle to myself.
We were too full to try any desserts but there was a very large selection. We would...

I recently visited this establishment with my family, including three young children, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Despite the predominantly positive reviews, we encountered significant issues that left us feeling ignored and frustrated.
Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and served water. However, that's where the satisfactory service ended. For approximately 25 minutes, we were completely disregarded, with no acknowledgment from the staff. Despite the restaurant being moderately busy, the focus seemed to be solely on cleaning empty tables rather than attending to customers.
After patiently waiting, we decided to inquire about our order. Regrettably, the response we received was dismissive, with the assurance that our waiter would attend to us soon. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable and recognizing that our children couldn't bear the extended wait any longer, we made the difficult decision to leave and search for another place to eat. Unfortunately, but the time we realized this and walked out, almost every other restaurant was already closed for the evening.
This experience has left me divided on whether I would consider revisiting this establishment during future trips to Canada. While the majority of the reviews are positive, the lackluster service we encountered raises concerns about consistency and customer satisfaction. It's disheartening to have such high hopes for a dining experience, only to be met with disappointment.
I sincerely hope that the management takes note of our experience and implements measures to improve their service. As a family-friendly establishment, it is crucial to prioritize the needs and comfort of all patrons, particularly when young children are involved.
Overall, based on our unfortunate encounter, I cannot recommend this place. Potential customers should be aware of the possibility of inconsistent service and consider their options carefully when making...
