German Restaurant Near Vancouver! Harrison Hot Springs Hidden Gem

Had lunch here on a partly sunny day, so chose the patio (enclosed). Was very pleased to know they made gluten-friendly schnitzel, though in talking to the waiter they only used different breading not a separate fryer--fine for me, but not for celiacs who are very sensitive. Was told right away though that only the bernaise sauce is GF. Not a problem as that's what I wanted. The service was great. Seemed like all three servers were working the busy but small patio maybe because there were only three tables full inside. Only drawbacks were the music and the tv. Not really sure what the music was, but seemed more suited to cactus club than a classy German restaurant. And the TV on the patio was tuned to the food Network (on mute). That was distracting. Don't understand how TopChef was supposed to elevate or compliment my dining experience but I didn't care once my food arrived.

The Black Forest is a great restaurant with a good selection of entrees. I did not have to wait at all for a table when I came for dinner. I ordered the Vegetarian Schnitzel Champignon to see what it was like. The schnitzel was and tasted better than expected with the Béarnaise sauce helped complete the entrée. The sautéed mushrooms that came with the schnitzel was very tasty. The red cabbage was very good. The vegetable were admirable. This establishment has a genuine German aesthetic to its countenance. The staff pride themselves with their German-based food palette that is high quality. The service was really good and the restaurant was pretty clean and mildly lit. My only complaint are the prices for it made think a little if I could afford any of these menu choices. In conclusion, I recommend the Black Forest for anyone looking for fine dining and/or German cuisine.

We had lunch at 12:30 PM on a Friday afternoon at Black Forest Steak & Schnitzel. The restaurant sits almost on top of the point where the Harrison river meets Harrison lake, right in front of the Harrison Lagoon. Sadly you can't see the water from the restaurant because of the elevation and barrier wall surrounding the water, but you can see the mountains and it is a lovely spot.

Be WARNED there's a "gotch ya!" paid parking across from the restaurant. When we parked there was no sign anywhere stating you need to pay to park. No visible meter. In fact when we walked from our car to the stairs leading to the water there were no signs stating you needed to park or a meter. Sadly we got at $50 CAD parking ticket. The video attached shows our POV from the car.

The restaurant is adorable and goes all in on the German Black forest vibe with heavy woodwork adorned with carvings and murals on the walls. The restaurant is a decent size inside and has about the same amount of seating outside. There's an uncovered outdoor seating area with umbrella covered tables, as well as a covered/heated outdoor seating area. This is where we sat as it was raining and windy on the day of our visit.

Service was immediate. We never left waiting for anything. If they were watching over us it wasn't obvious, but they were definitely right there if we looked around. They have an excellent wine and beer menu and the food menu was extensive. We both had schnitzel I had schnitzel with pork sausage. The dishes were hugely portioned and came with veggies that consisted of exactly two small blanched carrots, one small broccoli floret and one small cauliflower floret. They veggies were not over-cooked and still had some snap to them and were NOT drowning in oil or butter. They were exactly what I wanted. Some might find it too plain, but I was happy to see vegetable that were not removed of all their health benefits. The potatoes were flavorful and I devoured them all. The sausage that came with Schnitzel was said to be made in house. It was .... just ok... I was happy that it wasn't overly salty like you often have with sausage, but something wasn't quite right.

I had tea to hot drink and was so happy to see they serve Stash Tea Company brand tea. I had a whole small tea kettle to myself.

We were too full to try any desserts but there was a very large selection. We would...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Black Forest Steak & Strudel House in Harrison Hot Springs, and let me tell you, it was an incredible experience from start to finish! From the moment I entered, I was greeted with warm hospitality, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

The menu at Black Forest is a true celebration of German cuisine, and their steaks are second to none. As a steak aficionado, I couldn't resist trying their renowned cuts, and oh boy, they did not disappoint! Cooked to perfection, each bite was a tender and flavorful delight. The chef's expertise truly shines through in the quality of the meat and the beautiful presentation of every dish.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show – the strudel dessert! Words cannot adequately express the sheer delight that awaited me. The flaky, buttery pastry wrapped around a heavenly combination of sweet fillings was a true masterpiece. Every bite transported me to dessert heaven, leaving me with an everlasting craving for more. The attention to detail and the perfect balance of flavors showcased the culinary creativity and passion behind this delectable treat.

The service at Black Forest deserves its own applause. The staff was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was superb. Their genuine love for what they do was evident in their recommendations and their willingness to cater to individual preferences.

The ambiance of the restaurant is another highlight. It exudes a cozy and charming atmosphere, with tasteful decor that transports you to the heart of Germany. It's the ideal setting for a romantic dinner or a gathering with loved ones.

In conclusion, my visit to the Black Forest Steak & Strudel House was nothing short of magical. The combination of mouthwatering steaks, heavenly strudel desserts, impeccable service, and captivating ambiance made it an unforgettable experience. If you're ever in Harrison Hot Springs, don't miss the chance to embark on this culinary journey. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to savor more of their...

Title: Disappointing Experience with Poor Service

I recently visited this establishment with my family, including three young children, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Despite the predominantly positive reviews, we encountered significant issues that left us feeling ignored and frustrated.

Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and served water. However, that's where the satisfactory service ended. For approximately 25 minutes, we were completely disregarded, with no acknowledgment from the staff. Despite the restaurant being moderately busy, the focus seemed to be solely on cleaning empty tables rather than attending to customers.

After patiently waiting, we decided to inquire about our order. Regrettably, the response we received was dismissive, with the assurance that our waiter would attend to us soon. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable and recognizing that our children couldn't bear the extended wait any longer, we made the difficult decision to leave and search for another place to eat. Unfortunately, but the time we realized this and walked out, almost every other restaurant was already closed for the evening.

This experience has left me divided on whether I would consider revisiting this establishment during future trips to Canada. While the majority of the reviews are positive, the lackluster service we encountered raises concerns about consistency and customer satisfaction. It's disheartening to have such high hopes for a dining experience, only to be met with disappointment.

I sincerely hope that the management takes note of our experience and implements measures to improve their service. As a family-friendly establishment, it is crucial to prioritize the needs and comfort of all patrons, particularly when young children are involved.

Overall, based on our unfortunate encounter, I cannot recommend this place. Potential customers should be aware of the possibility of inconsistent service and consider their options carefully when making...
