Beware of demanding to pay more tips or you'll be HUMILIATED! Dim sum quality so so and very pricy.

Don't believe it? Scroll down to read more on those 1 and 2 stars reviews, or try it out yourself to prove it!

They're rude and discriminate and bully the Chinese speaking customers which is very true statement from one of the 1 star reviews.

I’ve a very bad and unpleasant experience with their terrible service at the restaurant. I’m from Ontario and almost every year when I’m in Montreal with my family, I always like to dine in at this dim sum restaurant during our visiting in the past 10 years. I’ve not visited Montreal since the pandemic shut down for the past 4 years. Until last Friday, here I’m visiting Montreal again but this time only by myself, as usual I went to dine in on Saturday morning. When I finished my meal, I asked the waiter for my bill who was just nearby the next table. He is a 60+ years old man, he came with the bill and I paying cash with the tip. Unexpectedly to my surprised, he looked at me unhappily and said: “Hey! the tip is not enough, you got to pay more tips, don’t you know the rule here?”, so I dug out the only Toonie left I’ve in my wallet on the table to added up more tips, as the rest are all the big bills. At the same time, I replied him I’m not from Quebec. The waiter raised his voice and start questioning and yelling at me. “Do you live in Canada? Or where are you from? Hong Kong? China? Or US? Oh! Is paying much more tips in the States”. The way he’s talking loudly and yelling behavior is to purposely draw the public attention trying to humiliating and embarrassing me. I was so shocked and unprepared for this sudden happening awful situation, so I walked away as I’m not the type of person who wanted to argue with someone in the public area.

This guy never serves me at my table at all from the beginning till I finished my meal, and he never even says a single word of “Thank You” except just yelling & humiliating at me demanding more tip after I gave him the tips. His manner and attitude are really hurting my feeling and I’m so upset and it spoiled and ruined my holiday mode for the rest of the days.

In Canada, there’s no mandatory by law to tip, tipping is voluntary. In general, I usually give 10 to 15% tip on the total amount before tax, not after the tax which I disagreed and is considered ridicules.

I ended up paid close to $50 including tips for my one-person pricy and little meal and ended up being humiliated.

Furthermore, the dim sum quality has declined not as good as before and a lot more expensive & pricier after the pandemic.

I never have any issue in the past and never have a problem in many other restaurants which I visited during my stay in Montreal the rest of the days after that incident.

It is an unfortunate to have a waiter with this attitude & behavior, asking for more tips has become a habit, a norm, which chasing the customers away and ruined the reputations of the restaurant. I’ll never ever want to step in to this Kim Fung restaurant again. It is a very unpleasant and...

I’m not sure how they have a rating over 3 stars because it was the worst dim sum we’ve ever had and we’ve lived in NYC and San Francisco, so we know good dim sum. This place was highly recommended by someone and was a quick walk from our hotel so we headed there for Sunday brunch. It was busy, which we took as a good sign, but everything about our experience was horrible. We sat down and they immediately brought tea, but it took 15 minutes and asking 2x to get water. I’ve never been to a dim sum place where it takes so long to get carts to come to your table. The first several carts had food we weren’t interested in so we told them what we wanted, but they never sent those our way. Out of desperation we took some type of barbecue pork “dumplings” that were in a type of pastry shell, shrimp “dumplings” (didn’t look like what they called it), and sautéed spinach. The dumplings were all ice cold inside and spinach was too oily and the sauce for them was way too sweet. We called over the guy who appeared to be in charge to tell him all the food was cold and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Came by a few minutes later and pointed to a cart across the room and said that had hot food. Never offered to replace the cold food we weren’t eating. Not helpful or professional. We have never been to dim sum where you had to wait this long for food to come around. More typically they’re annoying you coming over constantly, but at least then you get choices. We got desperate and took some fried calamari, but it too was disappointing; cold, coated in too-thick breading, and was oozing grease, truly disgusting. When we finally got them to come over with barbecue pork buns, and other steamed dumplings, once again most were cold inside and the dough was disgustingly thick. The steamed shrimp dumpling dough felt like glue in my mouth and I was sorely tempted to spit it out. After that, we just paid and left. The staff seemed disinterested and no one cared that we didn’t like the food. The place is a dump, service was horrendous, and the food was inedible. I’m sure there’s very good dim sum in Montreal Chinatown so highly recommend you find somewhere else to...

Skin on hargao is too thick - my frozen supermarket ones tasted better than this. Cheong fun Charsiew tasty but cold. Xiao long Bao has no soup inside, and the skin is tough. What kind of Xiao long Bao is this? Left overs from previous days (so the soup disappeared and the skin toughened from overheated many times!?)

A small and cold plate of fried rice noodles with no meat/ veg $9. No prices posted anywhere so surprise to see the bill!

They have chrysanthemum tea which has no caffeine so that’s nice.. Many restaurants serve only the caffeinated jasmine or pu’er. However, they don’t refill and we have to keep asking them to refill - that’s annoying. The teapot is also small size (good for two persons maybe?) and only one pot given our group size is stingy. Also, the teapot starts to leak at the spout when you pour so the table cloth is wet everywhere. This restaurant needs to update its cutlery.

I feel we didn’t have the full food experience (brought guests who enjoy dim sum for the first time). Perhaps because it’s a snow day so less patrons. Most of the items in the bamboo baskets from cart are cold and I had to request them to warm it up. Despite that, the carrot cake was served cold. There weren’t any fried pastries either so after a long time I realize that they probably didn’t put any out because the restaurant wasn’t full . Still, there were several tables on a Sunday so it’s disappointing they didn’t try to serve the existing customers.

And the worst thing is, when the waiter gave me the bill, they demanded a tip and pointed to the tip amounts on the bill. I find that very rude to be told how much to give. I obligated and gave him what he wanted but left with a sour taste....

We chose this place as we were trying to find a non-touristy!!!??? Chinese restaurant in China town via this website and looking at the recommendation on my phone. It was a bit difficult trying to find the entrance of the place, as you access it through a business centre serviced probably by Chinese businesses for mainly Chinese diaspora and then take the stairs to the upper level and go towards the south-western corner of the building. We were a bit more dismayed seeing the white cloth covered chairs and tables, normally used for receptions/weddings but checking their menu we found not only stuff that we love but also that their prices are not high compared to similar prices in UK or USA. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and although only 3 table being taken, we noticed by the time we left, there were around 8 table occupied near our window table overlooking a wall, which meant we had a quiet environment and the servers were faster. The food was great, a mix of dim sum, soft shell crab, beef rice etc and noticing how ripped both the table cloths and the menus were, our server told us the owner prefers this for more character!!!
