The restaurant is set in a beautiful location with a fabulous view. Our server was friendly but not knowledgeable about the menu. We wanted to sample several appetizers, but weren’t sure if the Surf Board would be appropriate for sharing. When we asked our sever, they confirmed that the appetizer wasn’t appropriate for sharing. With that in mind, we ordered two - and wound up with 4 of each item. Had she asked or saw, she should have come back to ask if that was still ok. For the execution of the food, I must say I was incredibly disappointed. I love fine dining establishments - but I felt the execution of the food was not to par with the caliber one would expect. For the appetizer, while visually appealing, fell flat as everything just tasted the same - ceviche. It didn’t taste fresh - just tart across all three types. For our entree, I had the duck - which was fine. However I don’t understand why the chef would choose to PICKLE BERRIES? The celeriac purée was also inedible. For my husbands steak, the consistency of it was so strange - almost a cross between ham and a pork chop. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. We didn’t attempt to sample any desserts, because by that point we had no trust or faith in what we’d get. I strongly do not recommend Currents for dinner.

We are staying at Black Rock with our toddler for the first time and decided to try this restaurant. We got the scallops as an appetizer and let me tell you , it was delicious and that sauce, so good. For mains we got the duck and chicken and both were very yummy and the veggies and sauce paired well with the dishes. Since we were celebrating our anniversary they gave us complimentary bubbles (me a yummy red fruity drink since I was pregnant) and also since we were celebrating my birthday a complimentary dessert in which we got the tart . And everything about it was great. The staff was amazing and especially so with our son and the food along with the view were incredible. Will definitely be coming back.

Had an amazing dinner here tonight. Our server stood out particularly because of his prompt and welcoming service. We ordered the salad to start, along with the steak and the chicken entrees. The salad was full of fresh berries, and a perfect sauce to pair. The steak was well seasoned paired with flavourful mashed potatoes, and veggies. The chicken specifically came out piping hot, was very well marinated, and paired with the yummiest wild mushrooms that were buttery and full of seasoning. The picture does not do it justice. What an amazing night well spent! Don’t be afraid to spend your money here.

My boyfriend and I have been staying at the Black Rock for my birthday weekend and we were excited to dine at Currents. The ambiance was beautiful, and the waitress was nice and knowledgeable. We ordered the chowder for the appetizer and it was SO delicious. A very very hearty serving, so many big chunks of different seafood and veggies. Came out piping hot and we couldn't get enough. This set a very high bar for us and we couldn't wait to try our entrees.

He ordered the steak and I ordered the daily catch which was supposed to be a sesame crusted halibut. After I ordered it the waitress informed me they were out and it was now lingcod, which I was completely fine with and still eager to have. I'm not sure why our service was so slow, since there were only about 5 other parties in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for the chowder to come out, which was okay, but then after that it took another 35 for the entrees.

I don't mind waiting for good, quality food especially in a restaurant like Currents. I DO have a problem with waiting about an hour for dishes that are served barely lukewarm. My boyfriend's steak was cooked really well, but was warm at best. My lingcod came basically cold, as well as all of the vegetables on the plate. The piece of lingcod I have was so small, smaller than the palm of my hand, and very very thin. The sesame crust didn't add anything to the fish at all. It had literally zero flavor, as did the sauce that was served with the fish. No seasoning, no sear, no crunch from the sesame seeds. Very disappointing. I understand the quality of ingredients is what would dictate a price but I felt bad that my boyfriend paid $35 for the tiny piece of fish and cold vegetables. He made the joke that our wait was so long because they had to go catch the fish themselves. No one wants to wait a long time for cold entrees. I would have spoken up but it may have taken another 30+ minutes for a replacement entree.

We really really wanted to love this place. It's a beautiful restaurant and judging by the other good reviews can be an amazing place to dine with big pieces of fish that look amazing and delicious. Unfortunately that was not my experience. The next day we ordered takeout from the bar, more of the chowder because it was so delicious, and a poutine, but we had a bad experience with that as well (35 min wait time when told 15 mins and they gave salad instead of poutine and my boyfriend had to multiple trips to the bar to fix this). Because of this we are reluctant to ever...

We had dinner at the Currents restaurant on June 12th to celebrate our parent's anniversary and it was probably one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Even though there were limited choices on the menu (which we were fine with), most of it was poorly prepared which resulted in us returning it to the kitchen.

For one, the Beef Stroganoff was overly salty so it was barely edible for my expecting wife. When we told our waitress, she spoke with the kitchen and the chef explained that the prep cook prepared the sauce. We asked if they could make us another one (again, limited menu) but they said they won't be able to prepare a new sauce, which is shocking. With an already limited menu, my wife decided to go with an appetizer as none of the other entrees worked for her. I'm really not sure which is more surprising - the chef not tasting the food before it goes out, or his inability or unwillingness to dilute or make a new sauce?

Secondly, the Quinoa salad entree was again overly salty to the point that it was completely inedible. When we brought the concerns to the waitress, again the chef explained to the waitress that the prep cook prepared it, so they were in the back "cursing him for it". They didn't offer or try to remake it, so we had to order something else. Again, apparently these chefs do not taste the food that they prepare.

Thirdly, every fries order that we had (with sandwiches / burgers / fish) were soggy. The "chips" that came with our Albacore Tuna appetizer were like eating rubber. I've never had chewy "crispy" chips.

One thing to note, we were explained by the waitress that dinner service would be slower as the kitchen is understaffed, however, after waiting an hour for our appetizers and then ANOTHER half an hour for our entrees, you would expect them to be properly prepared, especially being pretty simple pub-styled food. The most disappointing part was we were never offered anything in terms of a discount (for the mishaps) or some sort of appetizer / drink while we were waiting. Not that it was expected, but it would've been a nice gesture for their comedy of errors. They sure made our parent's anniversary dinner special, but not in good way. We were extremely disappointed with how it was handled and will definitely...

Two months ago my friend made a reservation at this restaurant for their wedding reception. We got told due to covid we couldn't have one big table so we asked if we could do two tables of eight people and that was fine over the phone. Fast forward to the day of, we arrive and get told that we have been split across three tables and that there is a $5 per person service fee which was not disclosed over the phone at the time of booking even though it was said it was for a wedding. Reservation was confirmed multiple times and nothing was said during those phone calls either. The manager Josh was rude when I asked if we could move tables around to make it two tables like we orginally asked for (which was still well within their covid guideline they set of maximum of 10 per table). Secondly, both of our tables ordered at the same time. One table recieved all of their food before the other table. That table did not recieve their food in till the table that got their food was finished eating. The only good part of the service was our server was Melissa. She is kind, accommodating, wonderful person and great at her job! She was the only member of the staff that made us feel welcome. I feel like she tried to go above and beyond for us and we appreciated her effort! Update: book a reservation here if you want them to miss or lose track of very important details about the reservations and not disclose any fees...
