We ordered a set dinner which came with appetizers, salad, soup, roast beef and dessert. Our experience at this place was “interesting”
Our first impressions of the restaurant with dim lighting thought it would be cosy romantic dining experience. However throughout the whole dinner the atmosphere was far from that, tables spacing was quite close and even when the restaurant wasn’t full they sat all diners together which made it quite noisy and you can easily hear the conversation of the table next to you.
Secondly don’t know why but waiters and waitresses were frantically roaming around it was very distracting it felt like I was at a cha chaan teng. Would expect restaurant of this type waiters would display more sense of calmness rather than like if I was dining at ruby tuesday or outback.
For appetizers we had the “ocean trio” taste wise it was alright but I did overhear another table which they had some allergies but the waiter said they were not able to substitute any of the items.
Next the spinning bowl salad felt gimmicky, using an ice bucket to spin the salad while dressing but didn’t think that elevated the taste or anything. The sauce tasted heavy and questioned the pairing with beetroot. They provided a chilled the fork which they said was specially for the salad but no appetite knife was served.
Soup we tried both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque. The clam chowder had whole shell clams, however there was no separate plate provided to discard the shell. We had to ask to be provided one.
Roast beef was decent, plate was warmed before serving points added for that.
Dessert was refreshing but the coffee served was bad it tasted like Nespresso capsule.
Towards the end of our dinner, empty plates were not taken away even when they served our coffee and tea. The table has crumbs but wasn’t cleared before serving dessert.
Overall dining experience was soso mostly around the atmosphere and service. Waiters just randomly serving you but without explaining any of the dishes or components, then running around frantically when the place is that busy, waiters not as attentive and would have to wave to get attention/help, we filled our own waters etc. Would expect more professionalism at a restaurant where you’re paying $1000+ per person. Or is that too much to ask...
Read morewanted to love it but received disappointing experience here at lawry’s. food is fine but more on the service we received. after arriving for our 7:30 reservation, water was spilled all over the table (which is fine, understand everyone make mistakes and it was treated fairly quickly). but afterwards it took us more than 20 minutes for us to find someone to take our order, actively trying to look for a server throughout this time who were all busy with tables further away from us. also asked earlier for our wine to be opened for airing, but by the time we got settled and have the wine ready was 8pm.
the late start didn’t bother us as much as being rushed through the latter half of the meal, as music was abruptly turned off in the restaurant halfway through our main course like when they kick you out of clubs, and before that we were given the bill too all before 10pm. i checked the restaurant opening times and it showed open until 11pm. it became very stressful which we couldn’t finish the meal and had to pack the remaining main course to go (and prime ribs don’t even reheat well). we ordered the dinner set menu which also included the dessert and coffee, it came after but we decided it was not pleasant to continue sitting in the fully quiet restaurant (they were playing cheerful christmas songs all night prior to the shut off). also such a shame that we had to speedily drink a beautiful bottle of napa oakville wine, a 2012 vintage which should’ve had more time to develop. we brought the last bit of the bottle to go as well to finish off at home.
i would’ve had great compliments on the food itself here, loved the richness of the lobster bisque and wanted to savor every last sip of it. nothing personal towards any specific server that evening, they all seemed lovely, but not sure what happened with the passive aggressiveness with closing the restaurant early. hopefully future guests of the restaurants can enjoy a better dining experience...
Read moreWent to this American steakhouse in Central with colleagues for lunch. . We all ordered the Three-Course Lunch Set. Following are some of our selections for the Appetisers & Soup, Entrees and Dessert:
-Appetisers & Soup: -Butter Poached Lobster & Slow-cooked Abalone The lobster was soft and buttery, while the abalone was pleasantly chewy. Covered in lobster tomato sauce, they were both savoury, and the avocado purée elevated their freshness.
-Lobster Bisque (+HKD60) The soup had an aromatic smell, but some found it quite salty.
-Entrees: -Roasted Prime Rib of Beef au jus - Hong Kong Cut Cooked to medium-rare, the steak was prettily presented with its pinkish meat and perfect cut. Well-seasoned, tender and succulent, it paired nicely with the smooth mashed potatoes and crunchy Yorkshire pudding, esp when soaked in the gravy sauce.
Some colleagues added HKD60 for Creamed Corn/Creamed Spinach, both of which were incredibly creamy. The corn was sweet while the spinach was savoury.
-Dessert: -Warm Chocolate Fantasy Cake Served with vanilla ice cream, the cake had a thick and rich chocolate cream at its core, and it was not too heavy.
-Crème Brulé Topped with strawberry and blueberries, the dessert had a caramelised sugar coat. It tasted pretty standard and was quite milky.
As it was some of our colleagues' bday, they offered bday cake to us as well. The cake was a Soufflé Cheesecake, light and airy with a subtle sweetness. Its presentation was delicate too. . The steakhouse has a red and gold colour tone, creating a grand, classical and elegant ambiance. The waiters were attentive and professional. If you celebrate your bday there, they will offer a small bday cake and an instant picture, and even sing bday...
