This place had been at the top of our restaurant bucket list for a while and when we finally decided to stop messing around and have dinner here last weekend, we were blown away!
As we opened the door, our nostrils were greeted by the inimitable fragrance of freshly smoked meat. The decor was warm and inviting with all the hallmarks of an American barbecue restaurant. My intuition was already telling me that the food here was something special.
My wife and I decided we weren’t going to pull any punches and ordered a couple of starters plus a large selection of meat and sides to share. I knew I was going to have a difficult conversation with my cardiologist next week, but that was the least of my concerns right now.
To start, I ordered the smoked bone marrow on toast with an apple jalapeño confit, roasted cherry tomatoes and some other stuff sprinkled on top for good measure. Whatever it was, it really hit the spot. The soft, thick bread paired perfectly with the gooey bone marrow and the tomatoes and confit added just a little extra sweetness. My wife got the lamb birria tacos which were also excellent.
At this point, we were really excited for the main event of barbecued meat and when it arrived we could barely exercise the self control needed to leave it alone while we took the obligatory photos for Instagram. With those out of the way, we got to work on the pile of pulled pork, brisket, steak and ribs facing us.
While we can’t call ourselves experts in Southern-style barbecue, this was easily the best we’d had. The brisket was tender and juicy, the pulled pork was rich and flavourful, the steak was juicy and well-seasoned and the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and delicious, with that beautiful black char from the smoker. While everything was delicious, the ribs and brisket were highlights for us.
Remember those sides I mentioned earlier? Well, they certainly made their presence felt! The beans were soft, sweet and delicious, coated in a bespoke barbecue sauce, while the sweet potato fries were everything you could expect from the potato’s colourful cousin: sweet, crisp and fluffy.
Even as my body began to struggle to finish the mountain of food placed before me, my brain wouldn’t allow me respite. The flavours were too delicious, the textures too tender and I understood that the only way to do this meal justice was to finish the behemoth which had been placed before us.
Finally, the last bite was over and naturally we ordered a cobbler to share. We...
Read moreThere's something that is missing in Prague and that is good old-fashioned American buttermilk biscuits. This place has Pasilla Pepper honey butter inside their perfectly soft biscuits that tops it off. The apple smoked ribs with the apple reduction sauce is phenomenal. The Hail Mary cocktail is very tasty made with gazpacho. The brisket cigars are very delightful. The bone marrow tartare is probably the best tartare I've had in Prague. The gazpacho and shrimps was my favorite. The coleslaw is is very tasty and the smoked potato salad is worth trying. What brought me back was the warm American hospitality that I felt from the staff at this place. It made me feel cozy and somehow familiar with the professionalism and dedication that you can feel in this place. If you're an American expert and miss the food go...
Read moreGreat ambiance and a strong beer lineup, with plenty of Czech craft drafts and a nice range of American options, from classics to Sierra Nevada. We tried four meats, and the chuck eye was the standout. It was juicy, tender, and paired perfectly with the chimichurri. The moist brisket was easily the best I’ve had in Prague. Definitely going back for both.
There were a couple of hiccups, but the team handled them the right way, with quick fixes and sincere apologies. That’s what I consider great American-style service, and it made a big impression.
Mac & cheese with bacon and the bourbon-maple baked beans were both excellent.
I had a great time and really appreciated how the staff handled everything. I’m definitely coming back...
