Built in 1347 in gothic style, renovated mid-17th century in baroque. The legend of Our Lady of the Snows, comes from Rome. The Roman patrician John and his wife, who were without heirs, made a vow to donate their possessions to the Virgin Mary. They prayed that she might make known to them how they were to dispose of their property in her honour. On 5 August, at the height of the Roman summer, snow fell during the night on the summit of the Esquiline Hill. In obedience to a vision of the Virgin Mary that they had the same night, the couple built a basilica in honour of Mary on the very spot that was covered with snow. This basilica is Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most important churches in Rome.

Proč do Kostela Panny Marie Sněžné zavítat? V hsitských dobách tu kázal významný husitský kazatel a reformátor Jan Želivský. Pokud bude v době vaší návštěvy hezky, nezapomeňte navštívit i ořilehlou Františkánsko zahradu mezi Václavským a Jungmannovým náměstím. Why visit the Church of Our Lady of Snow? The first plan: an unbelievable oasis of peace in the middle of Prague, on Jungmann Square next to the "chaotic" and impersonal Venceslav square. The second: The Baroque decor of the interior is so beautiful and impressive that it does not matter if you are a believer or an atheist, this is worth seeing. Church founded by Charles IV. in 1347 he holds two records among the Prague sacral buildings. Although it has never been upgraded to the planned size, its top vault is at a remarkable height of 34 meters. The main early-Baroque altar is also the highest. The church was originally ment to be 100 meters long and the ship's height was 40 meters. However, this extensive work was cancelled over time, and only the presbytery and the monastery were finished. During the Hussite times, the prominent preacher and reformer Jan Želivský preached here. If you are nice at the time of your visit, do not forget to visit also the Františkánská garden between Wenceslas Square and Jungmann Square.

It is late gothic aisleless church with an intricate high star-ribb vault. The main altar is a rare example of ornate North mannerism and it has few splendid baroque altars with swirling Salomon colons on both sides. Surprisingly, all these elements from different periods make a great match.🥰 Quite narrow but very tall, nicely lit space is one of a kind and visitor's attention concentrates on mighty towering altars build in the front of the interior. There were almost no tourists, even if the building is in the very center of the city. 👏🏻

The most gorgeous and intimate church in Prague As we all know, in Prague the concentration of history is tremendous and simply unbelievable: almost at each step and corner you meet the centuries accompanying you. However, some places are perfectly known just by locals or interested in their fortune guides. This church is one of those gems which you could admire almost empty and not overcrowded by mass-tourists. Its beauty is not just in its historical legacy and the very designation as a coronation place but in the very details: just imagine and examine how all lime interiors are kept preserved through centuries.... Unbelievable... had been boiled in honey they passed through years almost intact conserving all features of their brilliance... We'll be in the Czech Republic for the sixth time just in two weeks and while visiting Prague we'll again drop in to admire it and its solemn atmosphere of...
