We loved Katr!

This was our first time here. We’re in Prague for 5 nights and staying a block away.

We made a 7pm reservation for a Saturday night. They were moderately busy when we arrived. The two of us got seating in a nice 4-top in the corner. Nice and comfy and semi-private.

There were menu’s on the table and we’d studied a but online before heading out, so making our choices for the evening was quick. A server came around pretty quickly and we ordered beers. My wife had a Urquell Pilsner and I had an Urquell Kozel.

Our beers came fast and we placed our dinner order. We shared: Bread basket (included with meals) Katr steamed pork sausage with variety of mustards and shredded horseradish Beef Tenderloin slices Shrimps Blanched Vegetables 3 Sauces (BBQ, Tarter and Sriracha Mayonnaise)

Table service was set and a the bread basket was placed. The server put some olive oil on each of our plates. We think this was for the bread. There were 2 varieties of bread and the one we favored seemed to taste like pumpernickel and had some seeds in it.

Our Steamed Pork Sauce and Mustards came out and we started munching on that. It was served hot and as a whole link. As we sliced it, we noticed some big chunks of gristle. We carved those out as we made more slices. We tried both mustards and they were tasty, as was the sausage. What I thought was shredded cheese was shredded horseradish. Oops! But I loved it. My wife had ordered this as an appetizer and I had not seen it on the menu. So, surprise. The server also installed our hibachi grill insert and lit the burner.

About 15 minutes after ordering, the food was brought out. We were given instructions on how to cook the food and we got started. We ate our meal as we cooked it, adding more to the grill as we took food off the grill. It was a lot of food and we ended up brining half the steak and shrimp home.

We really enjoyed our meal and were happy we went with food that we had to grill - just for the experience of it. We’d recommend Katr to anyone who wants to cook their own food at their table or prefers to order kitchen prepared meals...

Lovely restaurant, great location, the best beer!

One of the main selling points of this restaurant is the "tank beer" which is the most fresh and tasties beer you can ever get - something worth visiting for! We did enjoy the perfectly served "mixed beer" also known as "rezane pivo" (combination of light pilsner type of beer and dark beer) and an appetizer in the form of beef tartar with bread and garlic. I am not a fan of tartar being already mixed, but I must say it was delicious, all the flavour was there, well balanced and the meat was very fresh! Even though it was listed as a 100 gram appetizer we were offered a bigger portion (150 gram) as it was meant to be for the two of us. The menu is quite extensive offering typical Czech delicacies such goulash, schnitzel or duck.

The service was extremely nice, friendly and welcoming, able to satisfy customers and meet their demands - something you don't see often in the city center of Prague! On top of that they let us charge our phones without raising an eyebrow! I really appreciate that!

We sat outside (even though it was hot during our visit and the inside was air conditioned) in order to enjoy the beautiful location of where the restaurant is situated - in the heart of the old city with a view of the small square and beautiful buildings around! Really great atmosphere and I am planning to come back!

Paid by card. Last visited in...

STAY AWAY!! Rude waiter, lack of service and horrible management response to the situation. I made reservations with my wife and three kids. We ordered a nice bottle of wine (2006 Medoc), on the tasting pour it included a chunk of sediment. I asked the waiter if he could decant the wine. The waiter throws down the cork and his napkin, throws up his hands, talks to the other waiters and even the manager in Czech, comes back to decant half the bottle, then leaves. He then proceeds to ignore us for the next 15-20 minutes. Doesn't bring bread, doesn't bring the water we ordered, and never takes our food order. Finally my wife and kids got up to leave. I spoke with the manager, Jacob, who had no clue how to respond and made no effort...felt like I stepped back in time where customer service did not exist. STAY AWAY!!! These guys have a...

This was the first place I visited in the Czech Republic, but under the old owner. It was called Ceska hospoda and we had a great time there in 1993! Now it's all new. The interior is nice and spacey. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu is up to date, brief and good. The food was prepared well. Don't expect the top, but good with a beer. It's situated in the centre, in a part not that visited by tourists. At least if you walk to the left, away from Parizka. It's worthwhile walking around these streets. They have some tables outside, so you can enjoy the city spirit when eating and drinking. Please do try this place.

Went here because it was recommended by the prague foodie map as the restaurant with the best goulash. We can only second that! The goulash was fantastic, definitely the highlight of our trip! Service was good as well and the restaurant has a cool vibe. A bit pricier than the average restaurant, but worth every penny! Edit 2025: Sadly, the old Review is no longer valid. The goulash is very average and disappointing now (nothing special, smaller portion) and it breaks our hearts. The buffalo wings are good though. Not sure, we will come back.
