Very nice environment, live music, but mediocre service and overpriced food downgrade the experience from La Casa Argentina.
The interior of the restaurant is lush and decadent and promises a luxury experience. However, this promise does not come true when it comes to the service. We were expecting to have a Latin American experience, yet when we asked about the band that was playing, the waiter replied that he doesn't know anything about them. When ordering, he was neither helpful, nor patient and made a couple of not very well placed 'jokes'. In a restaurant with this price level and aspirations, I would expect the staff to be polite, and professional, but this guy left us startled with his behaviour.
The food was mostly OK, but not justifying the price tag. In La Casa Argentina you do not get any amuse bouche nor bread and butter or anything to start with for free - you can buy a small piece of Baguette for 85 CZK (seriously???) if you want to, but that's about it. The appetizers were mediocre - with the lukewarm soup I was even contemplating to send it back to the kitchen, but I did not want to get our evening spoiled by arguing with the unpleasant waiter. The steaks were good - excellent meat quality, but yet again, mine came more on the 'done' side rather then medium which I asked for. Despite the fact that the steak costs 650+ CZK, there is no side included, not sauce. The 85 CZK sauce was not worth it and nor were the fries with truffle oil. The only side dish we liked were green beans with chorizo.
As to wine, quite frankly, the waiter did not bother to offer us anything - maybe we were looking exceptionally cheap to him and not worth the bother (great feeling when you go out to romantic dinner, right?) - so we decided against bottle and just asked for wine by glass. The wine was decent and it was red - the waiter did not bother to ask what we want, he was satisfied with colour :-/. By the taste of it, it was probably malbec...
We left in the restaurant nearly 3k CZK and left certain that: 1) this was not worth the money and 2) we will never come back. Maybe this is a restaurant where you need to be a 'celebrity' to be treated well (if you are Czech you may appreciate their wall of fame with Tomas Řepka and Vlaďka...
Read moreGood evening,
I would like to recommend this restaurant to everyone, and it's all because of Jarda! (One of the waitstaff)
First, when we entered, we were greeted by a kind woman who led us to our table. She then handed us the food menu and a wine list. Now, let's talk about my favorite server, Jarda! He promptly asked us for our drink orders and brought them to us within seconds. He even poured our Coke into two whiskey glasses with ice and lemon.
Next, we had to choose our meals (the selection was huge), and just as we were ready, Jarda appeared instantly (at the perfect moment). Despite the meal being quite complex, he brought our food in about 10 minutes. At one point, my brother had a ring of sauce on his plate, and Jarda joked, "Now, it's my moment," as he removed it, making the sauce spill over my Burger. He laughed a little (super charming). While we were eating, he checked on us several times, always asking very politely if we were doing well.
When we finished, he cleared our plates (there were various dishes), and we helped him out because there were so many different items. He thanked us very sweetly. When he brought us the bill, we asked him what else he could recommend in Prague, and he was incredibly friendly and helpful once again. Visiting this restaurant was an absolute win!
There’s a fairly high expectation for tipping here, which I find completely reasonable... I gave him around 15%, which I somewhat regret in hindsight—I wish I had given him a bit more.
Honestly, the visit was worth it for Jarda alone. I really...
Read moreI have never been in a crappy place that treats the servants like this!! First, I will mention that the food in the restaurant is very good. Absolutely delicious even if it's not cheap. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the first waiter offered us local expensive (really really extremely expensive) wine, when we decided to give it up, he decided he was not interested in serving us, without us wasting his time or speaking in a disrespectful manner. Serving was too much for him, but trying to make us pay for the expensive wine was okay (we figured it out when we got the bill). Then another waiter offered us a crazy expensive business that we finally decided was not for us, 2 minutes after we ordered. When we informed him that we would prefer to order something else, he also decided that he was not interested in serving us. Finally a third waiter came and took our order, and we thought that at least here the experience would be nice, but it took more than an hour for the food to arrive!!! The restaurant's excuse is that the restaurant was full and there was a rush, which for me is legitimate, except that before that the waiter in front of him said that the preparation time is half an hour and not an hour! And even if it's a long time, why not announce it in advance? I will add that we were not asked how well done the meat was, but it is marginal because maybe it is not customary in the Czech Republic and the meat was excellent in the end. Never got such a disgraceful service like this in...
