A very standard pizza, I don't understand where the raving reviews here are coming from. Noticeable hiccups in the service: my partner received her meal 15 minutes before I did, which was a bit inconvenient. This alone wouldn't warrant me writing a review, but the real issue arose when it came time to settle the bill:

The server seemed to have trouble recalling my table, which was quite confusing to me as he even had some small talk with us. When he presented a bill from a different table that resembled ours, I mistakenly confirmed it, but then I said it was missing some items so he got annoyed when he realised it actually wasn't my table. He then asked irritably, which table I had actually been seated at. I pointed to it and he annoyingly said "see, totally different table!" This interaction definitely soured the entire dining experience. There also appeared to be tensions and heated arguments among staff members inside the restaurant, contributing to a stressful ambiance, but why would you take this out on your customers. Also the cook was wearing headphones, which struck me as unprofessional. All in all, there seemed to be some amateurish aspects that detracted from what could have been a more enjoyable visit, definitely more a 3 star...

Okay, I need to say something about how solo women patrons are treated at some restaurants. Yes, I am one person. I am not gonna be eating as much as four people which I know would be more money for the restaurant but that does not give you the right to make me feel bad about eating there. I should have turned around and left, but my feet hurt and I was hungry. Don't tell me that i only have an hour to eat because you have to turn the table after that. Just tell me you're full and don't have room for me. I would rather hear that. How would you feel if someone did that? Never do I want to be on a timeline at a restaurant but I knew it was because I was a solo person, particularly a woman who wasn't going to bring in as much revenue. But to be honest, I would have ordered another drink and maybe dessert and left a big tip if you had not warned me to not stay too long. And you never know, most travel book writers and restaurant critics come in solo. You better watch out how you treat people especially if they come in by themselves. The food was good and the female waitress I had, I think she's the only one, was very sweet. Watch out boys...... you better think twice when the next solo woman...

Last food in Prague and worst experience ever. Pizza oven wasn't working what wasn't big deal for me and my girlfriend. We ordered thru manager recommendations. That were lasagne and parmigano. To do our food kitchen needed 53 minutes and food was warm not hot. For me as professional chef that was around 45 degree. I asked Italian waiter what s the story with food and he said that kitchen have to do all orders depending of broken pizza oven and that s reason of delay. Common lads was 8ppl in house including two of us. Extremely disappointed. Also if we talk about food. Descriptions of lasagne said there is bolognaise beef ragu, what wasn't. Underseasoned tomato sauce with meat cooked enough, not sugar to balance flavours and for sure not meat stock in sauce and to much tomatoes. I will not call it ragu at all. Parmigano was just alright but portion tiny if u compare with lasagne. Also waiter offer us complimentary drinks depending of food delay. Whenever I ask for bill nothing was complimentary. I paid my bill and walk out very disappointed. Had no manner to ask for anything free if they offer. Just had enough. For sure will not back even I starve to die. Good luck with your hospitality...

My wife and I recently dined at San Carlo Mala Strana, a pizzeria located in Prague, where we enjoyed two delicious Capricciosa pizzas. The pizza dough was authentic Neapolitan, perfectly crafted and baked to perfection. The pizzas were well-balanced with fresh toppings and seasoned just right. However, I must mention that the atmosphere among the staff was quite tense during our visit. At one point, we even witnessed an argument between a waiter and the pizzaiolo – the person preparing and baking the pizzas. This certainly affected our overall dining experience. In terms of the food, I would rate the pizzas 9.5 out of 10 due to their outstanding taste and quality. On the downside, the table arrangement was cramped, earning a low score of 3 out of 10. Additionally, the atmosphere suffered greatly, receiving a disappointing 1 out of 10 rating due to the uncomfortable tension we felt among the staff. Despite the issues with the atmosphere and seating, the pizzas were truly exceptional. If the restaurant could improve the ambiance and the space between tables, it would greatly enhance the overall dining experience. I hope the management takes these aspects into consideration for future patrons.

Food 8/10, service 5/10 I will start with the food. Not getting a free bread at the beginning was quite surprising (in Italy you get it everywhere right?) also because we would love it with our starter - la parmigiana - which was great but you just want to dip a piece of bread in that tomato sauce!🙃 Pizza dough was amazing, lasagna needed some more bechamel or sauce inside. Tiramisu was delicious. I was a bit disappointed about the service though. Those guys were kind but not very attentive, you could see they are under time pressure (definitely not their fault, right managers?). They just could not do what you want them to do in such a restaurant - talk to you a bit about your food or wine, recommend something etc. Also the tables are pretty close to each other and the waiters barely have space to come to you table and serve you comfortly. Still one of the best pizzas in Prague but next time perhaps takeaway🤓

San Carlo in Mala Strana is an absolute delight—a real Italian experience tucked beneath the Castle, in one of Prague’s most charming quarters. From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported to a world of southern warmth, vibrant flavours, and genuine hospitality. The food was superb: fresh, authentic, and full of soul. From the wood-fired pizza to the handmade pasta, each dish captured the essence of true Italian cuisine. Service overall was warm and attentive, though one waitress (UA)—perhaps not Italian—was a touch too pushy in her approach, which slightly disrupted the otherwise relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Still, San Carlo remains a rare find in Prague: a place where the dolce vita lives beautifully amidst Baroque beauty. A perfect choice for a romantic lunch or dinner in Mala Strana.
