Even though the restaurant is situated in an ideal location and the food quality is good depending on the dish, everything else is horrible for Prague's standards. For starters the tables are ridiculously small and placed really close to one another, already giving you the impression they just want your money and they don't care about your comfort. The chairs are small and overweight people may struggle for comfort. The staff is rude at best and incompetent at worst. We were sitting at our table for 10 minutes and even though we were 4 people and there was only one catalogue the waiter came and asked us if we were ready to order! When they took the first plates they didn't take our forks and knives and after a while they gave us new ones without taking the used ones in an already cramped table. When we handed them over to the waiter he gave us a weird look. Despite the good quality of food, everything but the goulash soup is very overpriced and in small portions as well. The "Chicken supreme" plate is JUST ONE small chicken leg with many grilled vegetables around it. The "beef tenderloin" is just 6 small slices of meat along with 6 tiny potatoes for almost 16€. On top of all that, they won't let you pay separately (so if you are going there with company be prepared to carry lots of money) and they even won't let you pay by both cash and card in case you don't have enough cash. As it seems "service is not included" (which literally means that the waiter serving you is not included in the bill!) so when it was time to pay by card the lowest possible "tip" option was 10% (on a bill of 1600 czk!), and the waiter didn't really like it when we informed him that the card transaction would be declined with such a tip. Of course when we left the place there were no good-byes, just some mumbling from the staff. If you just want to eat a very good goulash soup (for just about 4€) then it's a good place for you. Otherwise I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone choosing this place for their meal. You can find far superior fried cheese for...
Read moreWe ate dinner at this hostinec last night and had a delightful time. The menu, as in most traditional restaurants, was limited, which was reflected in the high quality of what was served. The beer selection is expansive and includes lots of small, Czech breweries. The servers are able to describe all of the food as well as their beers and wines. The barman, for his part, has an extensive knowledge of all of their spirits on site. He also provided great tourist information for those of us who like quality fruit brandies and local liqueurs.
When we arrived, the terrace was full. So, we ate inside. And lucky for us that we did! Down a few steps, the small dining room is cozy and warm. It must be at least a couple of centuries old and has vaulted ceilings. One might think it’s dark inside. Quite to the contrary, it’s very light and welcoming.
We ate simply (the fried cheese for her and a burger for me), but the more traditional meat dishes, including pork knuckle, roasted duck, goulash, and schnitzel looked amazing. Everything (except the french fries, I think) is made in house, including the brioche bun for the burger I ate.
The draft beers are perfect. Local (Moravian) wines by the glass. Absolutely splendid local fruit brandies.
Delicious, friendly, welcoming, not overly expensive...
Read moreBeautiful place, but do not recommend for vegetarians (let alone vegans). I asked the waiter if they have something else than what is on the menu and he was super friendly, but unfortunately they really only have what is on the original menu. Ended up ordering fried cheese and French fries with Tartar sauce, see photo. It was simple and ok, massive block of cheese with fries and some creamy/mayo dip. Quite heavy and in your face. When the waiter asked how it was I told him it was good, but maybe some salad, berry sauce, or something would be nice to make the dish a bit more balanced. I really tried to say it in a polite and friendly way and make clear that it's not a complaint, just feedback. He just replied: "but you got exactly what it says on the menu, cheese, fries and Tartar Sauce". Yes, but that is not my point :D Overall, I'd say don't go here when you or someone in your party doesn't eat meat. Other places do a beautiful job at accomodating both omnivores and veggies. I don't feel like anyone here was interested in developing their meatless dish to be better. Also, the head waiter (?) took my plate when cutlery was still in "taking a break from eating" position. Not saying he's a bad waiter, just very efficient and not risking guest might get...
