MARGO — Restaurant in Copenhagen Municipality

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant after reading so many glowing reviews, but my experience couldn’t have been more disappointing.

I had made a reservation in advance, so when I arrived I expected someone to greet me at the door, even if it took a while for the host to get to me. In the meantime, guests who came in after me were welcomed before I was. After I finally got the attention of one of the staff, I was unapologetically told there were no tables available and was offered a seat at the bar instead. So, I went ahead and sat down myself. Normally, I don’t mind that as a solo diner — but in this case, there was no bartender in sight, and the staff seemed too panicked to even say hello or give me a menu.

The atmosphere was chaotic with staff looking completely stressed out. I’m not sure if they were having a bad night or if the staff was new and inexperienced. After sitting there for a while with no acknowledgment, I realized it was not going to be a relaxing dining experience. For the first time in my life, I got up and left the restaurant before ordering. No one even seemed to notice when I walked out. I had really been looking forward to trying Margo, but unfortunately we was a bit let down by the food. The starters were good (tuna and the buratta salat), while the mains (pappardelle ragu and tomato tatin) were ok.

Regarding the tiramisu: I would suggest removing the line “Yes – Nonna serves a generous portion” from your website. What I was served was the smallest piece of tiramisu I’ve ever had – especially surprising after reading that description. At 95 DKK, it felt very disappointing.

On top of that, the tiramisu contained strange, hard, jelly-like pieces, almost rubbery in texture. I’m not sure if it was undissolved gelatin or an issue with the mascarpone cream, but unfortunately it made the dessert unpleasant. I also noticed on Instagram that the tiramisu portions pictured there appear to be at least twice the size of what we received at the restaurant.

Might have been a fluke of that night in particular. It was a nice atmosphere though, especially in the front of the restaurant by the windows.

One of the best places I've been dining in Copenhagen. I gave them 5 stars all through, but a 4 star overall. And that is entirely because of the big mixup in making the orders and the timing from the kitchen. We were 10 or 12 people and all ordered the chips which we waited too long for and got them with the main course. Those of us that ordered appetirzers got them after the others got their main course and by the time the majority were finishing their main course we got both the starters and main course at once and it was a bit of an antiklimaks. What saved it all was the immaculate service of the very lovely waitress that did her out most to accommodate our requests. The food was fantastic and this is the only place i know that have alcohol free draft beer! I will definitely revisit this place next time I'm in...
