Restaurant Væksthuset, located in the idyllic Operapark, is a true gem for anyone who appreciates classic Danish open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød). The restaurant is housed in a beautiful, bright building with large windows offering stunning views of both the harbor and the Opera House. The location alone makes it worth a visit – it feels like stepping into an oasis in the city, where you can enjoy the best of nature and urban life.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and inviting, with a modern and stylish interior that still manages to maintain a cozy and warm ambiance. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience.
The food is undoubtedly the highlight. We were served four different pieces of smørrebrød: cold-smoked salmon, baked pumpkin, tartare, and chicken salad. Each piece was a delight for both the eyes and the palate. The cold-smoked salmon was silky and perfectly balanced with fresh and tangy elements, while the baked pumpkin added an exciting, sweet, and slightly spiced twist to the classic smørrebrød. The tartare was beautifully presented with an ideal balance of spices and textures, and the chicken salad was creamy and flavorful, topped with crispy elements that provided a delightful contrast.
The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for Copenhagen, considering the high quality of both the ingredients and the presentation. It’s a place where you can treat yourself without breaking the bank.
All in all, Restaurant Væksthuset is a fantastic spot to enjoy a delicious lunch, whether you’re looking for a casual meal with friends or a special experience in beautiful surroundings. It’s a restaurant that masterfully combines classic Danish cuisine with modern elegance, and I can highly...
Read moreDiscriminatory behavior from the staff. When we arrived and asked for a table for two, despite the restaurant having only about eight occupied tables, a woman directed us to her colleague. He asked if we had a reservation and when we said no, he sarcastically responded, "Of course not. We are fully booked for this evening."
After walking around and taking some photos, I checked their website for online bookings and found several available slots starting at 7 pm (it was 6:50 pm when we were there). I approached the same man again and mentioned the online availability, to which he replied, "Yes, we can't close online bookings, but we are understaffed and won't be able to serve you." This seemed insincere, so I went back to the woman who had greeted us and showed her the online availability. She led us back to the same man and questioned him in Danish. He then responded in English, "So you want a table even though I told you we won't be able to serve you?"
This was extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, and discriminatory. We saw three men walk in without reservations and get seated immediately, and the online availability for 7 pm disappeared at the same time. As foreigners without Danish phone numbers, we couldn't book online or call ahead. The staff's behavior was incredibly disrespectful and marred what could be a beautiful location. Discrimination like this detracts from its appeal. As a foreigner or person of color, avoid this place. There are many other options with great service and respectful staff. Management should definitely address...
Read moreThe star is for the beautiful building, the service was really bad - if I get visitors now, we just look at the building and get coffee elsewhere. I went there with a friend to get coffee but it was such a disappointing experience. We entered the building and none of the waiters greet you. We walked to the bar which is designed in a confusing way so you don’t really know where to put your order, and the waiter behind the bar isn’t helping. I think the waiters realized we were quite a few in line, so suddenly more of them materialized. We finally get the coffee and wanted to sit at the tables near the bar - a waiter tells us we can’t sit there, and we have to ask where we can then sit. She points to a place at the other end of the building, far away from the bar. We go there to sit and again another waiter says we can’t sit there and also tells another couple to go away from those tables (in a rude manner while rushing past them). The waiter was in a hurry and already on her way away from us and again we have to ask where we can then sit (carrying two coffee cups and plate etc). Finally we are apparently allowed to sit outside, but the waiters could have been more welcoming and just help people where to sit. We didn’t feel welcome at the place at all, but at least they have the architecture...
