Mon, Nov 6, 17 - The hubs and I haggled for a ferry ride (1LE ea), then a taxi for half a day in the West Bank (50LE to KV, Deir Al Bahari, QV, and Medinet Habu) . After Medinet Habu we walked to Ramasseum and then to Colossi of Mamnon and then walked back to ferry. We could've taken a bus from there, but the bus drivers were slapping out 5LE pp (it should be only 1LE pp). Then walking back this guy with the horse carriage said he will take us to this pub for 5LE, halfway there he asked for another 5LE. Screw that - it is all relative: the standard of living here is much lower than the western world. Just because I'm visiting doesn't mean I'm a walking $ sign! Anyways, we gave the guy 5LE (we should've not paid him) and went back to our hotel for a shower, walked to the pub. We found the stairs to go up (it is to the left when you face it). The pub is decorated like a British style pub. The people operating it are friendly and generally helpful. The Sex in the Felucca tastes similar to a tequila sunrise. Mojito was spiked and tasty. The chicken shawarma was more like a Chinese stir fry. It didn't come with Egyptian flatbread - not so good, don't order it. We saw others ordering pizzas and burgers and they appear good. The service is great - very honorable and provides good customer service. The pool table is for free to play and it has a layback feel. Overall, drink prices are better than the floor below. We highly...
Read moreReally lovely local bar, the beers are very cheap, especially compared to the nearby hotels. I didn't get food so haven't rated it. Just has a very small local feel, some of the locals are really awesome too, if you get a chance to play them at pool definitely do so. It isn't some high end bar, so don't expect something to the standard of the hotel bars, but a great place for a couple of beers.
The only call out is that it's not the easiest to find, under the sign on the main road you go through what looks like an alley way with clothes on the wall to your left, after a few meters inside you take a right to go up the stairs, it's on second flood.
They have music on, but the staff are happy to let you request songs etc. Some people smoke inside, not my favourite thing in the world, however it's pretty airy and no the...
Read moreWe ventured into the Kings Head for a drink with some friends we met at a restaurant nearby and fancied an alcoholic drink afterwards. We didn't order food so I haven't scored for food.
The pub is towards the back of an ally between shops and up several flights of stairs. Not sure if there is any other access as I didn't notice sorry.
It was quite dark inside, looked authentically like a British Pub. Usual bar etc. We were taken to a table and table service was the norm. We ordered local beers and 2 cocktails. All very good value to be fair. The cocktails were very good price and mine tasted good and as expected.
We would return due to the fact that buying alcohol out in Luxor is limited as not available in many places. So it's worth a look if you are...
