Genuinely the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant.I do not recommend at all if you’re anticipating a nice fine dining meal. I have been to many restaurants in Paris this month, after looking online and social media I was anticipating great things, but with this experience, I was extremely let down, and for the justification of the price it is diabolical.
First, we got seated before the table sat next to us (we were a table of two and so were they), their whole order was taken, and also received the token basket of bread with appetiser plates 30 minutes before we got our tap water or order taken. It wasn’t that busy and the waiter was stood at the desk opposite talking to a colleague but I gave the waiter the benefit of the doubt as I know people sometimes have bad days and forget - being a front of staff waitress myself.
Then me and my partner proceeded to order a bottle of wine along with a sharing of the steak. We received the basket of bread, without plates so we had to just use the table to cut the bread on a napkin as the waiter disappeared so we couldn’t ask for any plates at this time. The wine took 20 minutes to receive the first pour in the glass and then the bottle got taken away, which was strange because I saw other people with an ice bucket, but we didn’t get given one, assuming the waiter will top this up for us attentively, which was obviously not the case.
The steak came out by a food runner quite promptly and asked if this is ours which we said yes, I saw on the dish there was only one steak despite in the menu it says specifically there are two steaks to share. They took it away for 15 minutes although we said that is ours and then we proceeded to see this lady cutting up the steak brought to us at the front desk entrance whilst serving people, right infront of us? We then received two plates of chopped up steak, which by now were cold and no one checked to see if this was okay until 20 minutes later. It genuinely looked like two kids meals, and for the extortionate price of 130 euros I was anticipating what it stated on the menu with prompt service and not a steak that has been on the front desk being chopped up by a staff member that is making payments to other guests at the same time.
At this point the waiter apologised for the wait of the wine as he was topping up the table next to us with tap water despite them not asking and eventually we got the wine topped up, which was empty for the duration of the meal anyway and in hindsight, I should’ve just stayed with the tap water that didn’t get topped up and took 30 minutes to get in the first place. The waiter then stated we would get the dessert menu and put the rest of the bottle, please note that there was less than 10ml of wine left in it, in an ice bucket next to us. I don’t know whether the staff were mocking us or thought we didn’t belong here but we just felt segregated the whole time.
Another 10 minutes passed and the waiter was stood talking on the desk with a team member whilst we were waiting, the only reason I wanted to order a dessert was because we were still hungry and were hoping for a miracle to turn this experience around. What is crazy is that the food runner again starts to walk towards us with the desserts and disappears again. Following that, a candle then comes into the dessert of my parter, it is not his birthday or any note made on the booking or to our waiter. Our waiter then comes and asks if it is his birthday which it obviously isn’t and now it feels even more embarrassing for ourselves when all we wanted was to end our date night on a positive note, but obviously that was ruined that day.
The whole service was embarrassing and for how much we paid, I would’ve thought the staff, waiters and waitresses would be accommodating or at least ask us how we are. Just shows good service cannot be bought and sticking to local restaurants and smaller restaurants are better and you are less likely to experience segregation or discrimination towards yourself.
Dont be like us, leave if you feel...
Read moreCoco’s prime location at Paris’s opera theatre and its lively atmosphere at dinner gave at first a rather positive initial impression. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s horrendous service and awful treatment to its patrons became clear the moment we were seated. It took ages for the waiter to come and take our order. Apart from arriving late and not apologizing, the waiter, when I asked him whether the sole was cooked meuniere or grilled as the method of cooking was not mentioned in the menu, he ridiculously mumbled “meuniere, grilled” . I was shocked as clearly there is a significant difference which the waiter did not even bother to ask me, let alone he gave me an incorrect response. To our surprise, a starter dish of carpaccio was placed on our table even though neither one of us ordered it. When we mentioned this dish was placed incorrectly and was probably someone else’s dish, the waiter took the plate without an apology. Also, he said that we were going to share the starters even though none of us mentioned the word ‘sharing’. Yet again, our main courses were wrong. I ordered the sole which I asked was cooked grilled or off the bone, and my partner ordered the linguine. What did the waiter bring to us? A steak and a plate of chicken! He placed in front of us two completely different main courses that were actually other customers’ dinner! He carelessly lifted the dishes and delivered them to another table as if nothing happened. He did not apologize at all to us and it was apparently clear that he totally forgot our order! When we told him we ordered the sole and linguine, he said “one minute”. The one minute actually was a long time, the patrons next to us were ordering dessert while this unprofessional waiter scrambled up our order. When my partner explained to him our concern and disappointment at this late service, instead of apologizing the waiter started to argue with my partner! I explained to my partner to refrain expressing our concern as the waiter clearly had no respect or professionalism to show. I suggested to order the bill immediately and leave, never ever to show up at this location. It is with most regret that the Brazilian couple next to us, had a superb waiter who was polite, gentle, and understanding. While the other waiter messed up the entire meal and was rude and late, the other waiter who did not serve us or take our order, actually and politely smiled at us and asked whether the food was good. When i told him the food was average, he offered his understanding and willingness to speak to the chef. Our waiter did not show up or compensate our meal or do anything to satisfy our needs. The other waiter who was a gentleman and spoke politely , I gave a very generous tip. The waiter who was impolite and unprofessional, ruined our night in Paris! This awful treatment shows how much good proffesional waiters are important. Why this...
Read moreI want to share a disappointing experience at Coco Paris, where my family and I encountered clear discrimination.
We had a 7 PM reservation and arrived on time to find the restaurant completely empty as they had just opened for the night. Upon arrival, the staff only checked my mother’s dress code, completely ignoring the rest of us. They did so in a manner that was neither polite nor professional, saying, “We want to check if you are well-dressed.”
Once inside, we were offered a table under the stairs—an odd choice, given that the restaurant was still empty. We requested a relocation, but the staff insisted on giving us another poor option near the bar and then a table directly by the entrance. Since the restaurant was empty and our reservation did not come with a specific table selection, I asked for a better table, but the receptionist refused.
At this point, I began to feel that this treatment was not coincidental, especially given how my mother was treated at the entrance. Just as I was about to leave, a staff member named Stephan stepped in and told me I could choose any table, as the restaurant was still empty. I truly appreciated his professionalism, but the incident had already left a negative impression.
As we dined, I observed a disturbing pattern: any group with a member wearing a head covering was being seated at side tables, away from the main area, missing the singers and entertainment. My mother wears a headscarf due to her beliefs, but neither my sisters nor I do—yet we were all subjected to this treatment.
What made this experience even more frustrating was that as more guests arrived, I noticed that many were dressed casually—wearing jeans, sneakers, and relaxed outfits. There were no heels, no suits for men, and no elegant dresses for women, yet none of these guests were subjected to the same dress code check that my mother was. This made it clear that the so-called dress code enforcement was selective and discriminatory.
This experience was deeply disappointing, especially since France promotes diversity and inclusion. I have visited Paris six times and love this city, which is why I was excited for my mother to have a wonderful experience on her first visit. Instead, we faced discrimination at a place that should welcome all guests equally.
What’s more shocking is that this restaurant also operates in the GCC, a region known for hospitality and cultural diversity. I sincerely hope they uphold these values and respect all guests, regardless of their background. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, as long as they are respectful of others.
I wouldn’t recommend Coco Paris to anyone who values inclusion and fair treatment. Discrimination has no place in...
