6pm on a Saturday night: I arrived solo at what appeared to be their opening hour when one of the servers was finishing his pizza & no other customers were present. Fine. I was bizarrely whisked away out of the restaurant by another server to an adjacent 'annex' sort of dining area with a separate entrance complete a large screen TV blaring a football (Soccer) match. I kindly asked the server if I could please dine in the 'main' restaurant instead. He mumbled something under his breath and said OK. Decibel -wise, the "main" restaurant wasn't much better, as loud music was blaring. I ordered the "Emmanuele" pizza which consisted of potato, tomatoes, rocket (arugula) & cheese. Of note, I asked for " light" or "little" arugula, and when the pizza arrived, it was piled on high. Of note, my conversational Italian in French is more than adequate, so there should have been no misunderstanding with the server. All the toppings were cold & there were all of 4 tiny pieces of potato. The cherry tomatoes were unripened. The cheese was barely melted and the crust was undercooked. I could barely eat half of it, I wanted to hastily pay the bill and leave. This was not meant to be , as the server ( who I gleaned perhaps was the manager/owner) decided to take a cigarette /smoke break at the front door. Nothing like second hand smoke blowing in the direction of a severe asthmatic (me!) In conclusion, I felt like an 'extra' in a Fellini...
Read moreRespiro is a relaxed Italian restaurant in the heart of Paris that serves authentic Sicilian cuisine. It is a little tucked away but a short walk from Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame. There are a lot of restaurants neaby but if you're in the mood for Italian I recommend coming here.
The menu features a variety of pizzas, pastas, and salads, all made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. There's a lot of classic Italian dishes, and the also have specials which is nice.
I recently visited Respiro for lunch and ordered the burrata salad and the putanesca pasta. The burrata salad was a refreshing and flavorful dish, with the creamy burrata perfectly balanced by the tangy tomatoes and the salty capers. The putanesca pasta was also delicious, with the salty anchovies, briny olives, and spicy capers perfectly complementing the al dente pasta.
The service at Respiro was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and she made sure that we had everything we needed. The atmosphere at Respiro is also very pleasant, with a relaxed and inviting vibe. The staff are actually Italian so this restaurant is authentic!
