We visited this place twice during our stay in Paris. First time to buy a 5 piece box of their assorted madeleines to try.
Second time, we bought their unique sandwiches and two 5 piece sets of the madeleines.
The sandwiches were flavorful with fresh ingredients (we had the Caesar sandwich). It was so fun and easy to eat because the bread part was this toasted layered pastry and the filling was chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.-- it was satisfying!
Also, no crumbs were spilling all over the place, which is a great concept of Chef François Perret. To me, this design of sandwich is genius!
The madeleines are plump and airy and has the right texture. The fruit compote filing adds to the deliciousness and luxurious taste.
I enjoy madeleines and these were very different from the traditional madeleines that do not have a glaze. This is why I wanted to try them and they did not disappoint.
We did not dine-in as the seating is limited.
On our first visit, the place didn't have any free seating, so we bought our stuff to-go. The place was busy and had a long line, but the lady who helped us was very kind and patient.
The other customers behind us were impatient, one of them even cut in front of us.
So be careful when you're trying to read the menu or look at their offerings on the counter display because people do cut in line when it's busy.
On our second visit, the place was calm and did not have a long line. The young lady who helped us was friendly and kind. We enjoyed chatting with her and she asked us about our bag charms/hand sanitizer holders because she found them very cute!
(Note: we are Asians, so I don't know about rude treatment of Asians or non-French speaking people).
We took home the 5 piece boxes of madeleines as souvenirs.
Also, the packaging design is so charming. I am fond of the illustrations/portraits of Chef François and Cesar Ritz on the box and shopping bag. These make great keepsakes for our trip.
We will be back again in our next visit to Paris to try their other pastries...
Read moreMy fiancé and I visited the place on the morning of 10/5/23 and we had the worst experience- to a degree this ruined our time in Paris. We wanted to look around the area and stopped by this cute shop. I’d recommend folks to only go if there's no one inside and if you are not a tourist. Unfortunately, being a tourist and walking in to an almost full place (4 out of 5 or so tables were full) with 1 group in front of me to order gave me a terrible experience. The people working there were extremely rude (for detail see their numerous google reviews from low to high!) and treats you awfully if you are a tourist. Given there was one open table, my fiancé got a seat while I was waiting to pay and he got kicked out from the table because you must pay first and then sit. However that was a lame excuse and a lie because right after I paid, another table opened up and we asked to be seated and they still said no because they "gave the table" to the couple right after me. The couple had not even paid yet- what happened to pay first and sit? Not only that but I asked if they had cafe allonge, which is just a long shot espresso charged the same amount as espresso, and the cashier said yes. However, she charged me 7 euros for Americano- which is espresso with water added. A completely different drink. Not sure if we were Americans or if I was Asian or if I didn't speak good French but the service here was terrible and absolutely ruined my experience in Paris. I am writing this review so I can warn my fellow tourists, Americans, and/or Asian people trying to visit here. Don't get denied seating and lied about what you order. This is the 21st century in a global world. They...
Read moreThe Ritz Comptoire is one more store doing "affordable luxury food" in Paris. Backed by the internet sensation Francois Perret - which star pasteries (the madeleine, the ritz au lait, the marbré) you probably already saw on instagram.
Like many such stores, the place is marvelous and the staff is well trained and pleasant - even when we came, in front of rude-ish customers and a bit short staffed. Note that they do not have a line inside the store to sit (a good idea, it makes it so much less noisy!) but it also means the only way to seat in the store is if someone stands up as you are about to pay. The parc des Tuilleries is close however
When it comes to taste now, we came with high expectations but were somewhat dissapointed: the great: the jambon beurre sandwich. 13e with a pate feuilletée and an open filling setting (instead of the cut being horizontal, it is at the top) which really lets the ingredients shine and is a very interesting take on a French classic
The good: The drinks (americano with milk 7e, juice from ulti). The big cake-Madeleine with lemon. 15e, beautiful, gourmand (the filling drips in an almost erotic fashion), but I found a lack of nuances in the bites, and overall a bit too much sugar
the bad: the small madeleines. 2.80e each. If I found the big-cake-version too sweet, that one clearly was over the top. They are dripped + with jam-like filling. The to-go bag has a nice illustration but feels way too cheap for the price, esp. compared to competitor Cedric Grolet 300m away. No cultery was included in the bag either - even though we had our food to go. Small mistake,...
