We made reservations, but it did not seem necessary. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is good...the service was horrendous. After traveling for 10 Years around the world, this waitress we had takes the cake and wins the prize for the worst service we have ever had. I believe it may have been because we were American, I even spoke French. Our waitress was pleasant to all other tables but ours. I asked for no onions and she said it was not possible. Then my salad came with a pile of onions...guess it's not possible to throw them on top. She never checked on us the whole time theoughout the meal, we had to go to the bar and ask someone for a drink as our food arrived and we didn't have anything to drink. We expressed our displeasure to the manager who allowed the waitress to come over and argue with us...maybe she can't handle the busy Christmas season. She stated we should've flagged her down...really? Whats the point of going to a restaurant? I can get fast food with better service. The food was good the atmosphere great...see photos, she argued she doesn't have to "count our bites." So after traveling 10 years around the world, she provided the worst service, I have never left a bad review. My guess is you might have a good experience with another waitress (or if your a local)....oh, and I waited tables for 10 years...so I know about service and what it entails. Last night in Stasbourg, and the service ruined this meal completely....

Sad experience. My husband ordered their signature dish, a Baeckoffe as the restaurant is named after, and it was tasteless. Perhaps this was indeed a historically true rendition of the recipe, so I guess we cannot comment there. As for me, I ordered a fried Munster cheese, which seemed great - fantastic crust, but was solid inside. After cutting it open, we decided to ask the waitress about it and she very kindly came back immediately assuring us that it would be changed. To be honest, I didn’t mind if they simply did the same piece of cheese again, fried, which I guess they did, maybe half an hour later, after we had to ask about it, but this time, soggy on the outside, and just about lukewarm in the middle. Fine, if they are understaffed. The fact that it was soggy, and with the contents of the cheese spilling out all over the plate, I am obliged to think that they simply microwaved the same plate. Luckily they removed the salad before nuking it.

Don’t go to this place. I am really sad to have to leave a review like this, because both waiters are obviously doing their best, but unless you’re ready to risk a huge disappointment, please take your money somewhere else.

My edit from 10 minutes later:

Don’t take their Kugelhopf ice cream either. It is...

Mixed Experience in a Touristic Setting

We visited this restaurant twice in the past year, once in October and once during the bustling Christmas season. Situated in the heart of "La Petite France," a highly touristic area, the restaurant boasts a charming atmosphere with typical regional decor.

While the food offered is representative of the local cuisine, it falls short of being extraordinary. Unfortunately, the traditional bakeoff did not meet our taste expectations.

Service varies based on the time of year. During quieter periods, the service tends to be prompt. However, during the busy Christmas season, it can become a bit clumsy. It's evident that some staff members are seasonal, lacking comprehensive knowledge, but it's understandable as everyone has to start somewhere.

Notably, a gentleman, presumably the manager or floor supervisor, stood out positively. He demonstrated adept customer care and effective time management, particularly during busy rushes.

Despite our two visits, we're inclined not to return. While the ambiance and management during peak hours were commendable, the overall experience did not leave us eager for...

Rating : 3,8 / 5 Cozy restaurant in the heart of Strasbourg, their specialty being ... the Backeoffe (you guessed it!!) Huge main dining hall, wooden tables topped with white/red-squared tablecloth (kinda like the Oktoberfest shirts!). Seating wasn't much spacious ironically, but the ambiance was hearty and authentic !! Beer selection was fine, christmas brew being Ok albeit strongly recommended by the owner ! Staff was friendly, service was a bit long though as the restaurant was pretty much packed ! Tried their home made foie gras and bread, It was very good (not the best I had !). I then tried the lamb backeoffe (typically it comes with different kinds of meat but you can choose one specific type) ; it was copious (a whole casserole per person of carrots, potatoes, and selected meat ... better order it when you're famished!!), meat was tender yet lacked seasoning. But i did enjoy it ! My friend had a special christmas baeckeoffe with capon (rooster!) and it was the best thing served on our table !! Really delicious. Had no room for dessert unfortunately! Good experience but will be trying other addresses before going back to this restaurant.
