I finally got round to this place and have to say I was more than disappointed, but I'd like to give concrete reasons, so here goes.
FIrst off is the service. 'Service'... There were a few consultants hanging around, no-one even said hi (small thing, but still). One of them approached me only a few minutes after, with the look on his face of "I'd rather be smoking weed than talking to you foreigners right now in this stupid shop". When prompted by specific questions, he gave a monotonous repetition of a text, which also had the undertones of "you guys don't know anything about Georgia" (which wouldn't be true in the case of many people who have stayed / lived there for a while). All in all, it seemed like the guy couldn't wait till the customer went off, with the dull emotionless expression on his face. You don't like wine, you don't like customers, plenty of other jobs around. Wine requires a different approach and that's really put me off the place.
How the place is organized. A few things here. First of all, it is very dark. Of course, wine is stored there. But it's TOO dark, you've gotta see what you're buying, there should not be any doubt about that. Perhaps the light or rather its very scarce presence was supposed to give off the impression of cozyness, but then the idea was a flop. Then, wine is grouped on the shelves according to the grape variety used to make it. FAIR ENOUGH, but the names of grapes are only in Georgian! A shop that is definitely intended for people coming from different countries and cultures to visit?! I can read Georgian alright, but most visitors would be at a loss and in the hands of consultants, see point 1. Then it is also kind of cluttered, not really comfortable to move around, the space not having been designed well, especially if there are a few people in at the same time.
That would basically be it - it's not comfortable to be in and not nice, also would've been perhaps a little more interesting to organize it geographically, like many people would expect, and with indications IN ENGLISH, YOU'RE IN A TOURIST AREA MAKING MONEY OFF TOURISTS :).
Also the web-site, but it's another story... There are no reviewing option for wines or a bonus system, but you can still register (without any perks involved, you'd just give them all your personal data, hip hip hooray).
I DO recommend it for the wine though, I wish I understood the setting of prices but it's a whole other story. I would've given it a 3 star for the wine, but then things considered, I'm giving it a 2 just to water down all the glorious reviews (where do they all come...
Read moreI came from Istanbul to try wine tasting at this restaurant. I made a reservation for wine tasting on February 27th. While making this reservation, I accidentally made a normal table reservation for the same day. Then when I realized this, I sent a message to the restaurant on Instagram and said that I wanted to cancel the normal table and that I would do a wine tasting. They said it was no problem and made the reservation as a wine tasting. When we arrived at the restaurant on February 27th, they said that our appointment was not registered as a wine tasting, that it was my mistake and that I made the wrong choice. However, even the email I showed them clearly said "wine tasting". However, I had to explain myself and prove my rightness for 40 minutes. We had come to Tbilisi for 2 days and the most exciting part of our trip had already been ruined. When I proved that I was right and that the problem was due to their organizational error, they allowed us to do the wine tasting. But our mood had already been spoiled. The wine tasting menu, for which they forced me to explain myself so much, was already disappointing, consisting of 2 salamis and 2 cheeses. The wines are not as good as we thought. But the saddest thing is that this place, which we came from Istanbul with excitement, disappointed us with its attitude and behavior towards the customer. They did not show a solution-oriented approach and made us live stressful moments for 40 minutes. And then they did nothing to compensate for it. I wish we had gotten up and left in the first minute. This place will definitely not meet your...
Read moreThe place is well kept, wine is good and you can tell there is a nice project behind. They have many wines all over Georgia and do not hesitate from making you taste them in advance before purchasing. On the down side, the issue is the same encountered with virtually all interactions with the Georgian hospitality industry, i.e. lack of experience and care (smiling, saying basic polite formulas to greet).
This is what leads us to say that We had booked a wine tasting with a sommelier a few hours in advance. They sent us an email 20 minutes prior to the wine tasting that the sommelier was not available. This is way too short-noticed. When we arrived there, they were rude and told us we could only drink a glass of wine for one hour, as all tables were booked for dinner later.
Two weird things then happened. We stayed for a glass of wine way more than an hour, as we left after 3 hours. Only half of the tables filled in the meantime. And, a sommelier wine tasting in English (what we requested) started on a table next to us. Now, it may be that those people booked earlier than us. But why not just suggest we join the wine tasting with those other people? We would have paid more than the glass of wine. Again, this shows that they are not mean or rude or try to get money off you - they are simply inexperienced in hospitality.
We suggest trying to work on this and be more friendly, but I am sure it will come with time. All in all the place is...
