UPDATED, as had another visit (few days later).
We really enjoyed this place for a weekday supper. The service was great, the kitchen staff all looked very pro and worked in sync. We had delicious salads, amazing soups, and wonderful mains. I also recommend the mash with smoked sulguni. The place is also reasonably priced, both for the food and wine.
Sorely disappointed by our second visit a few days later, for early dinner. Ordered soups again, which were good. Also ordered 3 mains, two were new to us (chicken and tolma), one was the same as on our first visit (veal chops). The two new dishes were OK, although there was very little actual chicken in the Chicken Bazhe dish. The real disappointment were the Veal chops. The popatoes were undercooked and swimming in oil. The veal chops were overcooked and oversalted. When I asked the waitress about this, she apologised saying the dish was prepared by a trainee, and they will gladly replace it with no charge for the dish. I was concerned whether it would even work time-wise, given how long it would take to prepare the dish again, and as other people in my party were already half-way done with their mains. She assured me that it will take only 10 minutes. It didn't - it took nearly 20 minutes. In the end the potatoes were cooked through, but still too much oil compared to the same dish ordered last week. The veal chops were better, but also not as good as during the last visit. In order to catch up to everyone in my party, I had to eat in record time, and absolutely did not enjoy it. When I came to pay the bill, I was surprised to see the veal on it. When I asked, I was told that what they meant was they were not going to charge me twice - for the first undercooked potatoes and overcooked veal that was immediately sent back, and for their attempt to replace the dish... Apparently, the waitress was also shocked, but the kitchen Chef had told her to proceed this way. As it wasn't me asking to waive the dish fee from the bill at the beginning, I didn't argue, but thought it was a very petty move by what aims to be seen as an upper class restaurant. There was no restaurant manager on duty at around 5pm. The waitress was very apologetic and genuine.
We only returned to this restaurant because we were impressed on the first visit here. However, the worst problem for restaurants is inconsistency. For this reason we will not be returning.
There was no respect for wasting our time, they really do not care about customers, and are not accountable for their...
Read moreI had a guest from abroad who is crazy about food. He has been in almost half of worlds greatest restaurants with Michelin stars. After 15 minutes of searching for the suitable place for dinner, we found Andropov's ears. Made a reservation easily and crossed our fingers in the hope of good food and service. We arrived 15 minutes early but they greeted us without problems. Atmosphere was calm, luxurious and very friendly because of good staff. Surprise was that all the evening we listened to jazz trio, who played a a very high quality music (for myself I'm a Pink Floyd fan for more than 15 years and after that night I started to listen to Jazz :). FYI I've asked and live music is just on Friday nights. It was our first visit there and we asked waiter for some suggestions about food. Many Compliments on him cause we loved what we had there ( you can check the photos). They served the food very fast, in fact I don't remember waiting and idles from one dish to another at all! From one side It is really amazing to eat sea food in Tbilisi and second, it was so fresh and tasty, we thought we had dinner at the seaside. I can say from myself and also from my friends experience that Andropov's ears is the best restaurant in Tbilisi so far and it can compete with worlds high end dinning places! For two persons we payed 565 Gel for this...
Read moreLittle disappointed, the menu looked wow. Loads of amazing dishes to choose from, great interior space, candles and ambience, with views overlooking the city. Unfortunately the food had very little taste? The sweet potato wasn’t cooked properly, the cauliflower was so dry it had no taste, presentation wise… looked lovely but lacked flavor. Having heard great reviews I was surprised.
The waitress also brought the food & drinks for 1 person on the table whilst the other 3 of us had to wait a further 20-30 minutes for ours. Which made us feel uncomfortable as she didn’t eat, and we were sat watching hungry. The waitress shouldn’t have allowed that to happen, unless we’d all said ok beforehand. I would of preferred the sauce on the side, not drowning my mignon. A steak knife 🔪 too would of helped.
The bread was very nice, and place. Just a little improvement to the food taste. It’s average, honestly and after staying over the road in Radisson Blu with great food, we expected a little higher.
The total bill was 280 GEL for 4 people which is reasonable. But won’t be coming back any time soon. Unfortunately. Service speaks volumes and I feel the place should care a little more to the customers needs, whether they speak...
