Fantastic! Stopped here spontaneously a couple weeks ago. Great service: Stephen was friendly and helpful! I was overwhelmed by all the options, so I just tried whatever he recommended (box of 4). My favorite was the lemon curd — WOW, amazing. Excellent balance of sweet and tart, and the dough itself was so light. The strawberry stracciatella was also awesome. The vanilla cream doughnut with crumb topping has such a strong vanilla bean taste that it's almost floral; the pistachio one has a somewhat subtler taste of its key flavor, with a really nice glaze. Basically, all the doughnuts were great. I couldn't eat them all right away, so I was still enjoying them 2 days later; even after they were no longer fresh, they tasted great reheated for a couple seconds in a microwave. (Reheating then briefly softens them — if you eat them immediately after they come out of the microwave.)
I was admittedly apprehensive when Sammy's went vegan; I've tried a lot of lackluster vegan "pastry" at other places. I've had too many vegan baked goods elsewhere in Berlin that have doughs too dense, or weirdly chalky "creams," or just compensate for a sub-par mouthfeel by piling mountains of sugar on top.
Sammy's, by contrast, tastes exactly like a doughnut should! It's not just a "great vegan doughnut" — it's a great DOUGHNUT, period. Light, fluffy, well balanced, and the flavors are so inventive and changing frequently. Not to mention the great service at this place — always appreciated. Would recommend, and would...
Read moreAmazing donuts! We tried the glazed and Strawberry filled. Chefs kiss! 🤌🏽💋Coffee was on point for a weary international traveler. Staff were welcoming and friendly. They did take credit card payments.
I did try to stop in again the following two days afterwards and was thwarted both times. The first unsuccessful day was International Women's Day in Europe. How refreshing to see a country devote a full day to celebrate women! The city basically shut down. Bummer for us, but I appreciate the reasoning and sentiment.
The second day of donut denial (Sunday 03/09/25) was a little more perplexing...the store was open with lights on, workers and customers were inside, and there were fresh donuts in the case but the door was locked. Like really locked. 🤷🏻♀️ I tried a couple of passes on my walk but was unsuccessful both times. I wonder if they were standing in solidarity with the national union strike by allowing local patrons only? Either way, I will try again as a self proclaimed donut junkie! 🍩
Captain's log- Day 3 on 3.10.25...SUCCESS! I secured the package. Pistachio, Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Lovers, and Vanilla Crumble. 😋 Staff today was great and so helpful!...
Read moreMy wife’s absolute favorite desert is donuts, so we make it a point to try donut shops wherever we visit on vacation. Sammy’s Berliner Donuts in Mitte was a couple of blocks from our hotel and I cannot recommend them enough. Seriously. The absolute best donuts we’ve ever had and that’s saying something given District Donuts in Washington DC reigns supreme for us. My wife tried a blackberry jam filled donut and I tried a strawberry frosted donut. Decadent like brioche but soft and fluffy like Japanese milk bread. Both imparted intense flavors from their respective fruits. Those donuts made our romantic walk down Rosenthaler Straße all the more special. The associate at the store was so pleasant as well. If you’re in Berlin you must make the trip to visit one of their locations in the city, but especially in Mitte. Will...
