Papa Joe's Biersalon — Restaurant in Cologne

We did have a great experience at this bar when we ordered beer and food the first day so this is not an indictment, just a warning on something that happened later. The next day we went in for a beer and water because we wanted to see it again before leaving town. We were told after getting our order wrong for still water that the sparkling water was €5.5. It was club soda out of a fountain that my wife did not drink. It also cost more than .4 ml Kolsch. The new waiter just gave us 9 € back out of 20€, with an attitude and no explanation despite the bill only being €10.3 The other waiter that had been so nice the day before walked up to us when we asked for explanation from his colleague and was belligerent defending the charge. Just found it odd and off putting after we thought it was a nice place that we had planned on giving 5 stars-take the comment for what it is worth- worth poking your head in and enjoying a beer in a cool old place, but they are too quick to be rude to patrons. We were recommended this place by our guide. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointment. We ordered four beers and instead of the traditional 0,2l glasses we were brought (and charged) the 0,4l glasses, without being advised or asked. For anyone that knows anything about Kolsch, it is always served in 0,2l glasses because its freshness is key. So this place already proved to be touristic rather than true to tradition. Also, we were seated outside and as the sun came out, the waiter came to open the umbrella. Without saying or advising, he opened it right on our heads, nearly hitting me and spilling my beer. A simple “excuse me, watch out” would have sufficed. When I went to pay, the barista asked if I wanted to round up the bill (something that I’ve never encountered in Cologne in my whole stay) and when I said no, he became rude and hardy said thank you or good-bye. Avoid this place and go with the many others that are more authentic...

By far my worst experience at a restaurant. We ordered food and waited from 50 minutes to 2 hours. Each meal served separately. The last meal was not served at all, we just gave up on it. The quality of the food was poor to average, my sausage was the worst meal I've ever ordered in a restaurant (and the most overpriced), but my friends' chops weren't bad. On top of that, we were served dishes we didn't order, and the staff tried to argue with us that it was our order. But the worst part was the service, they didn't understand why customers weren't satisfied, argued with us and wanted to cheat us on the bill. The whole system is designed to rip off customers. There's no way to see what you're paying for, when we decided the bill was too big it just deducted something there, but we still didn't know what we were paying for and how much it specifically cost.
