The Grill Upper Kö — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

TOTALLY UNIMPRESSED!

Mainly it was the service but the food was uninspired and not as hot as it should have been (again the service?). I guess I should be getting used to this by now as it seems the service in Europe usually stinks (apparently since no one tips) but at a place where I’m paying €160 for two people at lunch I expect MUCH better.

After seating it took at least 20 minutes before anyone came by to take our drink order. After getting our drinks, which again took way longer than it should have, we put in our order. The next time anyone came by was to deliver our food. Again it was good but seemed like it should have been warmer (we ordered the US steaks family style). Maybe once on a hurried flyby we were asked how the food was. After eating we again sat without anyone stopping by to offer drink refills, dessert, coffee, etc. To get our bill I actually had to walk to the order stand and ask for the bill... apparently our waitress was on a break as I could see her in the kitchen eating and prepping silverware. A different waitress then delivered the bill. Then after several minutes I had to chase down the host (because the server who dropped off the bill didn’t come back to get the payment) to pay. The funny thing was the place isn’t big and there seemed to be plenty of staff so I have no idea why the service wasn’t better but it should have been!

So overall the food was a four on its own (the steaks were good and cooked perfectly) but I would give the service a zero to one star at best. Having to chase down the staff to get anything in a restaurant like this (any restaurant actually) is inexcusable. Maybe it was just a bad day (Saturday) or time (1300) but it shouldn’t have been. RUDE RUDE RUDE workers!!!!! The rudest workers in the world are at this place. If you want to be treated like garbage come here it’s the best place to be! Last time we had bad service from that one blonde server and this time with miss plastic face, huge lips. I don’t know her name and really don’t care. She started screaming at us telling us well i’m not in the kitchen standing over their heads to see if they did it or not. They served the ENTIRE place, the ENTIRE place and we waited for the food for an HOUR! and people who came after got their food and left! Unfortunately these two woman are the worst. The men who work are amazing though, great service from them! But I don’t recommend it at all!!!!! They are RACIST!!! all tables got the food except us! why? for what reason??? she said the reason was because it was well done but all the other tables had burgers and steaks :) PS: we never tip less than 50€ so it was her loss. anyways don’t recommend and i hope next year i’m here it’s either closed or no more of...

The food is nice especially the Green Curry. This is my third time in this restaurant, and today the waiter who took our order seemed unwelcoming and unhappy at all for some reason. Moreover, what we are used to in any fine dining restaurant is that you start with a drink, followed by salad, soup, appetizers, and then the main course. Today they did the opposite. We waited about 40 minutes, until we remembered them. The first thing the waiter brought was the main courses! And when I asked him politely about our salad, soup and other appetizers he shouted “I only have 2 hands!!!” And he walked away immediately.
