First off, this hotel is in a great location, right next to the Acropolis and museum. It is on the outskirts of Plaka so you can walk out the door and eat, shop or sightsee. It seems to be a renovated residence...that’s OK it adds to the charm. Reception is located in a cubby under the stairs, Think Harry Potter. Nice girl runs it, Magdalena? She is very happy to help you (if she is there) She is not always there, she actually called me the day before to make sure I would be there before 6pm because she would be going home then. Stairs are STEEP with no railing. and you will be lugging your bags up them. My room was described as "Executive Level Suite" By definition a suite is 2 rooms. This was not that. The 1 Room is small...that's ok too... typical old world European hotel room size, you will not be keeping you bags open and walking around the bed- no room. Romeo and Juliet balcony overlooks the street below. Very old world. Loved it. Bathroom is nice (half the size of the bedroom) Towels were VERY scratchy. Nice exfoliating effect. Tip for management- put up a shelf so that guests can put there toiletries on. Breakfast is in the roof, just climb up the tight spiral staircase – don’t hit your head. The girl brings out everything they offer- Everything. Do yourself a favor and pick your favorites and tell her the next morning what you want. I liked the omelet and pumpernickel bread. Coffee was not hot. When I arrived on Tuesday I ordered a car from Harry Potter for Thursday Morning at 9AM to take me to the airport. On Wednesday I reiterated this to be sure. Thursday morning-after we lugged our bags down the steps …no car. Harry Potter wasn’t under the stairs to help me. At about 9:08 wife and I lugged our bags down the long street to hail a cab. I got an email to ask how my stay was, I mentioned the car And she replied to say the car came at 9:10 (did it?) Look, it’s not a bad place, they do have some kinks to work out. If you have mobility issues I wouldn’t...
Read moreKyria Boutique House was the perfect selection for our stay in Athens. First you can't beat the location. Literally steps from the gate of the Acropolis Parthenon. It's also a stone's throw from the Acropolis Museum, the Acropolis metro stop and an easy walk to the various ancient sites such as the Ancient Agora, Hadrians library etc. There are many great restaurants and shops in the area. It is lively but not as loud at night as other areas. With this location, there is no need to rent a car (and I wouldn't want to drive in the city!). It felt very safe. I was not concerned even as a woman and with children.
A highlight is the rooftop with views of the Parthenon and the neighborhood. It was beautiful at night! and a perfect way to start the day in Athens with the included breakfast buffet on the rooftop. The breakfast was very good with omelets, meats, yogurts, vegetables, eggs, mini sandwiches, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Wonderful!
Magda at reception was very kind and helpful. She will answer any questions you have and gave us restaurant recommendations. She also offers airport transfers, reservations, etc. Checkin and out was super smooth. You will be well taken care of!
The room was immaculately clean. We stayed in the executive suite on the ground floor. It was spacious with tall ceilings. Charming vintage touches. There was a king bed in the bedroom and a pullout couch in the living room for the children. Both rooms had access to a private courtyard patio which was just perfect for snacks and enjoying the beautiful weather. There is a desk, wardrobe and mini fridge. It was very comfortable for the family, but I would also stay here as a romantic couple or friends as well.
I would definitely recommend Kyria for your stay in Athens, and would absolutely stay on a future trip. Highly...
Read moreI'm giving this "hotel" full marks but it has some quirks that potential guests need to be aware of. ||First the good. The rooms are safe, spotlessly clean, great bed, large by European Standards, mini fridge, fast WiFi, and a modern remodeled bathroom. The included breakfast is amazing (bacon, eggs, french toast, Greek salad, Greek rice pudding, coffee, juice, cakes and Greek cheese pie). Breakfast is served on the roof, which has an amazing view of the Parthenon. You are literally a 50 meter walk to the entrance of the Parthenon, maybe 100m to the Temple of Zeus. Upon check in we were presented with a complementary bottle of Greek wine which we enjoyed on the roof deck with amazing views.||Now the quirks, there is no reception at this site so check in is a bit of a challenge. You are supposed to register online before you checked in and they will send you an access code, but we were on a cruise ship so that proved to be a challenge. We checked in, in person, with another couple and I think our rooms got mixed up as our room code was "deactivated" on day 2 of our 3 day reservation. This also "deactivated" the AC system in our room. But in both cases Staff were able to quickly and professionally resolve these challenges. I'm convinced that most of the issues were my fault, and that if we had checked in "online" (as per the directions) the issues would have been avoided.||This is a nearly 150 year old building without an elevator, all of the rooms, but one, are up a flight of stairs, for us that added to the fun, but they are steep and narrow! ||We would definitely...
