A Timeless Gem in Oia, Santorini
Since my first visit in 2009, Ochre Wine Bistro has been my quintessential go-to dining spot in Oia, Santorini. Over the years, I have returned inumerable times and recommended this gem to countless friends and family. Each visit reaffirms why it remains, in my view, the best sunset view restaurant on the island.
Ochre Wine Bistro is perched perfectly to offer an unobstructed view of Santorini's legendary sunsets. The sight of the sun dipping into the Aegean Sea, painting the sky with hues of orange, pink, and purple, is nothing short of magical. It’s an experience that words scarcely capture and one that has kept me coming back year after year.
The ambiance of Ochre is both elegant and welcoming, combining the rustic charm of traditional Greek architecture with modern, stylish decor. The staff are always attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall dining experience with their warm hospitality and expert recommendations.
The menu is a delightful fusion of Greek and Mediterranean flavors, with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. From the succulent seafood dishes to the perfectly cooked lamb, every meal is a testament to the culinary artistry that defines Ochre. Their wine list is equally impressive, offering an extensive selection of both local and international wines that perfectly complement the menu.
What truly sets Ochre Wine Bistro apart, beyond its exquisite food and breathtaking views, is its consistency. Over the years, the quality of the dining experience has remained impeccable. Each visit feels like coming home, with familiar flavors and the ever-present allure of that magnificent sunset.
Innumerable times, I have witnessed the awe and joy on the faces of those I have recommended Ochre to. It’s a place that leaves a lasting impression, a highlight of any trip to Santorini. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, Ochre Wine Bistro is a must-visit, offering an unparalleled combination of scenic beauty, culinary excellence, and...
Read moreAn overall nice experience at this Restaurant
My recent visit to restaurant Ocre, Santorini was actually a good experience. We did not recognize some of the recent negative reviews. We all ordered different dishes. I liked the Kleftiko (Greek lamb). Had not eaten lamb for a long time, while my wife went for the Crab Pasta and the youngest daughter (12) opted for simple fries with bifteki. We are not yet able to let her change minds to enjoy the more delicate food. My oldest daughter chose saganaki feta with a salad since she is vegetarian. Second time this holiday. We all enjoyed the evening, was it the food, the view or friendly staff. Must have been the combination! Breathtaking View: The restaurant is spread across different terraces, and we were able to choose a spot downstairs. From there, we had a panoramic view of the caldera and the Aegean Sea. The sunset was .. as expected ;-) we have sunsets in Holland too of course, but this one was the best, according to the waiter. My daughers fully agreed ;-). Staff was friendly and attentive. After a conversation with the owner, I received a complimentary glass of Metaxa. I must admit, I had never drunk metaxa before, but already find this Greek brandy maybe even nicer than than my collection of whiskys. Or is it that my wiskeys are not the best. Anyway... I think I liked the place because the owner is a friendly guy, the waiters were kind and I certainly was in a good mood. While I don’t usually give extra tips, and although I find Santorin and espacially Oia a bit pricey , we found the restaurant good value for enjoyment. The service and overall experience were so that I wanted to contribute a little extra. In summary: recommended for anyone...
Read moreThe worst service and the worst food I have had in a long time. Drawn by the beautiful view on the patio of Ochre, we sat at a corner table facing the water. Although the place is supposedly a wine bar, there were only 3 or 4 bottles listed on the menu and no wine by the glass. The only alternative to the latter is a 750 ml carafe at 25 euros. We ordered wine anyways and sat patiently for about 20 minutes, waiting to order food. While the two servers were busily bringing food, drinks, taking orders at other tables and “carrying on” with three young American women (seated at the same time right next to us), they seemed to have forgotten we were there. We tried to make eye contact to draw their attention, to no avail. After another fifteen minutes and as we were considering leaving, a waiter brought the table next to us their second course and I called his attention with an assertive “excuse me”. It worked (we managed to order dinner) but prompted the worst attitude (snarky and condescending for the rest of the even). Then came the food! First, the plate of fried calamari we planned to share arrived cold, greasy, rubbery and obviously frozen. Next, the tagliatelle with seafood: soggy, cold and the seafood, although abundant, not fresh. I had a bite and choosing not to get sick for the remainder of my stay in Santorini, I asked for the check, putting an end to the worst evening and the worst meal we had during our two weeks in Greece (or anywhere in a very long time). This place is simply a disgrace. Please, abstain. There are other great options on the island and in this particular...
