Only leaving one star as I can't leave zero! Yesterday (10.11.24) was our first and last ever visit to Bowes. Myself and my friend (both 50 years old) were subjected to discrimination by the bar staff. Hard to believe that in 2024 this is still happening but yes it actually is!

We entered the bar at around 9.30 pm, there were only a few people in. Barman says "where are you coming from?" Me "The Palace” He replies "no where are YOU from?" I replied "we're from Derry". He began to pour our pints at which point a second member of staff said they would not be serving us and could we leave. I asked why and was told that in their opinion we had had too much to drink. That absolutely was not the case and this clearly was an act of discrimination. I am glad to say that we experienced a warm welcome in both the Palace and McDaids so not all Dublin pubs are cut from the same cloth!

If you don’t believe my review have a read through their other one star reviews. It is quite apparent that if your face or accent doesn’t fit here you will be...

Went to Bowes on the 18th December 23, myself my partner and 4 other friends took a night off work to enjoy drinks in this well renowned pub. Guinness was top class. We were drinking from 2pm at around 4 to 430pm a new barman, a male in his mid 40s started his shift. He told us on 3 seperate occasions to stop laughing and keep the noise down, after 3rd warning we decided to leave after spending a lot of money and really enjoying ourselves up to that point. This barman ruined our yearly get together. Drink is fabulous. All other bar staff were great and engaging before this. Whoever this fella is ruined our night and it would actively make me not recommend this place, more is the pity. Imagine telling 6 people in their 30s to stop laughing and joking. Awful, he really took away from what was a brilliant night up...

We were asked to wait for a table which was all good. After another couple entered the bar, they received a just vacant spot, which was still fine. That was after 10 minutes of waiting. Two guys were telling us that they were about to leave, so we kept waiting next to the toilets with a beer. The waiter told us once again that the two guys were about to leave soon and we just have had to wait a few more minutes. That was after 20min of waiting. When the guys left, we went over to the table and seated ourselves. The waiter came again and asked us to stand up again because a group of six just entered and looked for a table. Priorities first. We then...

In with my son for a pint and intended to move on to another couple of bars before going home, but ended up staying for a few hours before home. Love the place. The Guinness was excellent and the Tipperary cask strength whiskey was very fine. The guys (including the slightly larger one with the beard) behind the bar were class and provided great banter over the afternoon. I would highly recommend this bar for a good drink but would suggest that you start and stay here as I don't think the bar's a place to go to when you are hammered and noisy - stay in Temple Bar for that!

Small Whiskey/pub located within the Templar Bar cobbled streets, but with a huge range of Whiskeys from Ireland and around the world. Doesn't look like much from the outside but a lovely surprise on the inside. Reasonable prices considering it's meant to be expensive in Dublin, but perhaps it depends on what you buy. I didn't try the whiskeys so cannot help with prices. Had a baileys with ice to chill out. I love the moto above the bar. Great staff who know how to pull a good pint of Guinness :)

Dropped in for a couple of pints last Saturday night after a meal in town. I have to say the atmosphere in Bowes is always great. Friendly staff and just the buzz in the place is always spot on. We had a few pints of their delicious Guinness which is certainly up there on a par with the best pints around. I would highly recommended you visit next time you are in the area.
