As a family we have enjoyed Bunsen for years. Saturday was our first time going to Bunsen Dame St. We ordered gluten free buns and when they came the base was still frozen. They took them back and when they came out again they had very obviously been put in a microwave or some sort of quickfire oven. The burgers were completely wet and boiling hot with steam rising out of them; too hot to touch. After a bit of debate we were offered new ones which we accepted. The two other people in our party were now finished. Our burgers came. We checked that they remembered gluten free and they said they did. My replacement was lovely. We got the bill then and we were overcharged by €8. After another little debate we got that sorted and left. My husband is now home and suffering badly from a gluten attack. So he was given a regular base possibly because the top looked right. Just telling you like it is. The staff we spoke to were not that friendly and had zero cuatomer service skills. We went out to have a nice meal together and it was all just a lot of hassle and now illness for one of us. Bunsen on South Anne st, Baggot St and Temple Bar have always been great. The staff in Dame St need...
Read moreBunsen definitely lives up to the hype when it comes to their burgers. The patty was juicy, perfectly cooked to order, and the toppings were simple yet delicious. Honestly, the double cheeseburger itself was a solid 5-star experience. However, the hand-cut fries were a real letdown. They tasted like they'd been sitting around for a while and then quickly reheated. They were lukewarm, had a slightly burnt flavour, and lacked any real freshness. It genuinely felt like we were served leftover fries, which was disappointing considering the price point. To top it off, the service was a bit slow. Our food took longer than expected to arrive, especially considering the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. Overall, Bunsen offers a fantastic burger, but the poor quality of the fries and the slow service bring the experience down significantly. If they could sort out their sides and speed things up, this place would easily be a 5-star joint. For now, it's a 3 out of 5. Go for the burger, but maybe...
Read moreI got a double cheeseburger with shoestring fries on a quick Friday lunch break. Several aspects of the visit were good: the restaurant was cozy, I got a table quickly, the food arrived promptly, and the burger bun was top notch - substantive, chewy, and "soggy-avoidant," so to speak. This being said, I found the burger to be excessively salty with very limited options of burger toppings (which may have added to the saltiness of the burger) Additionally (not surprising and typical for Dublin), the Coke I ordered was bottle served (i.e., no refills). At the price point of about 20 euro for the meal, my preference would be 5 Guys Burgers just down Angiers St. For about the same price, they have far more options for burger toppings, a more balanced flavor, more fries in a serving, and free refills on all drinks. I can appreciate wanting to support a local chain, but 5 Guys, in my opinion, just has a...
