When looking for a nice steakhouse in Dublin city I done what any normal human would do and consulted Google. The search engine brought up several lists relating to my search, which was, "Best steak in Dublin."
FX Buckley stood out, I cant remember why exactly but all the reviews I read were positive. So i pressed the button and was hyperlinked to their website and booked a table for two.
We arrived and were greated by the host, a very nice and welcoming gentleman and shown to our table. Warm and comfortable inside, it is a modestly sized establishment which created a nice atmosphere without a feeling of overcrowding.
The menu was straightforward, as to be expected in a steakhouse and service was prompt. We chose to eat from the early bird menu and ordered the Baby Backed Ribs as my starter, with the 18oz Sirloin, cooked medium rear with a side of beef dripping chips, for my main. The wait between ordering and the starters arriving was just long enough to take in the decor and start our drinks which was perfect as I was hungry.
I have eaten many rib starters over the years and I can honestly say that the ribs served in FX Buckley are the most beautiful, succulent, mouth watering and flavourful I have ever tasted! Ribs as a starter can be the downfall of many a fine restaurant but not here. Beautiful.
Starter plates removed and drinks topped up, we were onto the main. For me the ribs had set the bar high and the steak was going to have to really live up to it's google promise of "best in dublin". Cooked to a perfect (in my opinion) medium rear, pink to the centre, i sampled my first taste. The bar was again raised. Melt in your mouth, with a delicious after taste of its charcoal cooking this is the best cooked and best tasting steak I've eaten in as long as my memory can recall.
The quality of food, service and atmosphere at FX Buckley are some of the best I have ever experienced. Restaurants now are rearly worthy of their ratings and reviews but rest assured that this place is fully deserved of 5 stars.
I will be returning again very soon and will be recommending to everyone that intends a...
Read moreFX Buckley in Dublin has garnered numerous accolades and maintains a prestigious position in the global steakhouse scene. During our recent trip, we couldn't resist experiencing their award-winning Irish meat and BBQ mastery firsthand.
Right from the outset, the service at FX Buckley was exceptional, exuding a can-do attitude that immediately put us at ease. We appreciated the detailed explanation of the various meat cuts, setting the stage for a culinary journey ahead.
The menu, though concise, is thoughtfully structured, allowing patrons to focus on the stars of the selection. We were particularly impressed by the inclusion of starter cocktails, each of which was expertly crafted and presented. Among them, the "Smokey Old Fashioned" stood out with its remarkable balance of flavors.
The main event—the meat—undoubtedly lived up to its hype. From its well-marbled texture to its tender bite, every aspect was meticulously executed. The subtle infusion of coal smoke added an extra dimension of flavor, while the precise medium-rare cook time further enhanced the dining experience.
While the fried onions served as a side felt excessive and somewhat misaligned with the dish, the accompanying salad proved to be a refreshing counterpart, with its light dressing and crisp freshness. However, the creamy spinach side fell short of expectations, leaning too heavily on creaminess rather than showcasing the anticipated vibrant spinach flavor.
To complement the meal, we opted for a Malbec from France, which proved to be an ideal match, enhancing the flavors of the meat without overpowering them.
Overall, our visit to FX Buckley left us thoroughly satisfied, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to discerning diners. Moreover, the pricing pleasantly surprised us, making the experience even...
Read moreI was in town for the week and looking for a great steakhouse. Local colleagues recommended this place to me and I was very glad they did.
I had the 32 oz. Cote de Boeuf (ribeye), which comes with six (small) sides: Green beans, broccoli, chips, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, grilled onions. This can probably feed two solidly, or maybe 3 light eaters. For me, I can handle this much food but was quite a bit full at the end, especially with wine and dessert.
The meat was cooked and presented very well! Being new to Ireland beef, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the meat was seared perfectly and cooked perfectly inside (med rare, minus). Seasoning was light, seemed to be just salt and pepper. I am actually curious what type of salt as it felt very well balanced. The steak was juicy but not greasy, or drowning in sauce. It seemed to be rested properly after cooking, and the way it was sliced (I usually prefer unsliced) actually made the experience of eating it enjoyable. It had a very clean, very strong beef flavor. It felt less fatty and rich than other ribeyes I’ve had but did not sacrifice on flavor.
The first thing I was surprised by was how small it is (the restaurant). It is one of a few locations around Dublin but this one (Crow Street) is tucked down an alley and probably seats less than 50 people in the main dining room. I liked that, actually. Also, I’m glad I reserved my table well ahead of time. I imagine it is hard to get in without a reservation.
Service here was great. I would hope so for such a small place. They were friendly and very quick.
Dessert, wine, and dessert wine were also good.
As someone used to American steakhouses, I was amazed at the low price.
