When my friends and I arrived at Captain America's we were told there would be a 20 minute wait, which was fine, and that we could wait at the bar and they would come and get us when our table was ready. Our group proceeded to the bar where we decided on some drinks but were never looked at by the bar tender.
After waiting for 40 minutes a different member of the wait staff noticed that we were still there and went to check on our table. They claimed that they had called our name, though in a loud restaurant how are we supposed to hear one small shout especially when they said they would come get us? A hostess rushes past us to take us to our table, while we are grabbing our jackets from the bar.
The atmosphere was good with the fun Americana theme. It was lunch rush on a Saturday and they were decently busy. Though we weren't even greeted by our waitress for an additional 20 minutes and she turned tail as soon as she realized that a few of us were undecided. No greeting, no intro, no drink order.
10-15 minutes later she was back to quickly take our order. I got the lunch special called "The Captain's Three" which included a bowl of wings, a bowl of american style fries, a side salad and a drink for around 10 Euro. The table ordered a pitcher of Cosmos.
The food was good, not great but it was good. My wings needed a bit more sauce but my salad and fries were good. The waitress made an obligatory "is everything okay" visit which she did with obvious disdain and I don't know if she was even there long enough for us to ask for something if we did need something.
Once we had finished our meals she asked us several times if we wanted dessert menus and was very disappointed when we just ordered another pitcher. And we never saw her again. The moment we finished the round of drinks another employee came up and shooed us out of our table quite rudely and handed us our ticket.
Overall the food was good but it did not make up for the bad service. From the very beginning the staff treated us like we were inconveniencing them. I don't know about you but I think that wait staff should be polite. I can understand when they are busy they don't have time to chit chat but the general attitude was so negative I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreCaptain America's, Grafton Street: A Former Favourite Falls From Grace It's with a heavy heart that I write this review for Captain America's on Grafton Street, a restaurant that was once my go-to for good food and excellent service in the heart of Dublin. For years, whether it was a quiet meal with my wife or a lively gathering with family and friends, Captain America's consistently delivered. Sadly, my most recent visit revealed a drastic decline, making it clear that Captain America is well and truly dead. The decline seems to have coincided with the departure of Fatima, a truly remarkable individual who greeted us on countless occasions. She managed the operation like a general, ensuring seamless service, perfectly prepared food, and a fantastic atmosphere. It's evident now that the high standards my family and I cherished left with her. Our recent family gathering of five was a stark contrast to previous visits. Upon arrival, the noticeable quietness of the usually bustling restaurant was the first red flag. Despite only about five other tables being occupied, our order took over 30 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, some dishes were cold and had to be sent back – not a good start at all. However, the real disappointment lay in the food itself. The New Yorker burger, once a favourite, was an utter disaster. It looked as if it had been "mugged in New York" rather than carefully constructed. With flat, lifeless lettuce, an amateurishly cooked egg, and a patty that tasted like the sole of an old shoe, it was arguably the worst burger I've had in Dublin City. The chicken wings were hard, and another chicken dish was dry and unappetizing. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. It gives me no pleasure to say this, but I wholeheartedly recommend you avoid Captain America's on Grafton Street at all costs. This restaurant is a prime example of how to run a once-great establishment into the ground. Fatima, if you're reading this, you are sorely missed. I sincerely hope your new employer (if you're still in the industry) truly appreciates your exceptional talent. It's obvious that you were the heart of what was once a truly great diner. It's such a letdown when a place with sentimental value...
Read moreI am writing this review because I had a very bad experience in capital America store at Grafton Street Dublin 2 on 2nd June around 2 to 3pm.
Me and my two daughters went in the restaurant to have lunch. The manager called Javiera told us there was no table at that time. She said we needed to wait an hour. We just waited at the hall to think about. And then a family walking and with no booking as well and she gave a table to them straight away. We were in the hall at that time and I looked at her said you told me there is no table. But they just walk in you gave the table straight away to them. And then she very rudely asked me are you going to finish your food in 1 hour to trying to cover up what she did. I told her that she is racist because I am a Chinese and she laughed and said: "did I say that they are Irish? " I don't why she said that. She knew that she was wrong. Apology would be fixed everything. But she didn't. Just so rude.
I said I want to speak with a manager. The man on counter told me that she is the manager. I was shocked she is because the way she treats people. She has "0" people and management skills She was so rude and doesn't know how to be a manager. I asked her that I want her name and the phone number for a complaint and she told us Google it. I want to make this complaint regarding this incident but there is no proper email or phone number to do so. I was disappointed such bad management and she just walked away the end without an...
