I stopped by because of the good reviews to get some takeaway lunch for my me and my partner. I ordered the black bean sauce duck and the lemon chicken, with a portion of fried rice for each dish.
I was told it would take twenty minutes, but my food did not appear for at least forty. I had to follow up with the staff, who assured me it was coming, even though people in the restaurant who had arrived and ordered after me were already served their food. I understand some dishes take longer than others, but taking double the amount of time, when the original time frame was already a relatively long wait, is ridiculous.
I get home and see that they actually put the order through for jasmine rice instead of fried rice. It was not what I ordered.
The food itself was mediocre at best. The duck in black bean sauce was swimming in the sauce with thinly sliced duck pieces that I couldn’t taste because of the overwhelming sauce. It could have been any other meat and I wouldn’t have noticed. The chicken was supposed to be crispy in the lemon chicken; which it wasn’t, it was a roasted fillet with again, a relatively tasteless sauce. Both dishes were far too oily, and truthfully for €16 and €17 without the rice included, were not worth the price.
A generic Chinese ‘takeaway’ packs more flavour into their food, and despite the homey atmosphere in the restaurant, the food itself does not deliver. The length of time I had to wait for two disappointing dishes was a sure sign of me never coming back here. There are better places to eat in Dublin, for better value, and far better...
Read moreWe popped into the Little Dumpling for dinner last weekend. We didn't have a booking & I will fully admit that we chanced our arms to see whether we could get a table at dinnertime on a busy Saturday night. Luck was on our side- a couple was just about to leave as we read the menu on the front window. Although the restaurant was fully packed, the main waiter was more than happy to welcome us. Even though the staff were very busy they were attentive to all their customers & quick to respond to any orders or requests. For starters we shared Salt and Chilli shredded chicken and Spiced crispy pork with a mineral and Asian beer. For mains we shared Kung Pap chicken and Black Bean beef with steamed rice. For those capable there are chopsticks on all of the tables. For everyone else that makes an unsuccessful effort with the chopsticks the waiting staff are more than happy to provide forks and spoons so that you can enjoy your dinner. We truly had a great dinner and really enjoyed the atmosphere & the friendly staff. We're definitely planning another visit but will most likely book a table to make sure we can get...
Read moreWe were 4 people and were craving dumpling so the choice of the restaurant was obvious for us. We ordered one spice bag to share, one dish of smashed cucumber and different type of dumplings (beef, chicken, squid ink/prawn, and duck)
The service was impeccable, quick and efficient, the waitress was very nice as well. The mood of the restaurant is pretty cozy and makes you feel very comfortable.
For the food, the spice bag was good, a little lack of spices I would say but generous with the fries, I would have love a bit more chicken but no scandal here. Smash cucumber is perfect to share, care if you don’t like spicy.
And finally the main part : the dumplings. I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed with the dumplings, they are very generous but the taste has nothing impressive, lacks a little bit of taste but they are not bad either. Definitely does the job but I expected more for a restaurant named little dumplings. If you just look for something simple that comes quick, it’s still worth your money, for 4 people we...
